this is me and my daughter, Kayla. taken at the st.louis zoo, before we found out she has SMA.
Yep, looks like in front of the polar bear pit.

Are you all from St. Louis or was that just a visit?

No Chrissy? lol

tat: SMA isn't the most fun for sure, but I hope things have gotten easier since the diagnosis. Is that a recent picture? She looks very content. :)

Who was teasing me about my Donkeys? I have dogs too. Here is my new hunting dog Trouble. He is also part of a new breeding project. (Lemon Beagles) All of my animals are breeding projects. The Koi are fun to breed and I get 10’s of thousands of them to pick through each year.

The Minis Donkeys are cool. Here is my first Sorrel Mini Jenny born last year, a bottle fed Standard, that is making himself comfortable and a hold herd of Spotted Asses in the back 40.

A "Mini Jenny"??? Wow, how do you make those??? Would it work on "large Jenny's" as a shrinking aid?? LOL

A herd of Spotted Asses................that is just too much for a person with a photographic memory to let go of in their brain, I'll be seeing spotted asses all day!!!!! :laugh01:

yep, it's in front of the polar bears. we live in central illinois. it's about a 2 and a half hour drive to St.Louis. we take the kids to the zoo every summer, they love it.

Things have gotten a lil easier, but man, it's still rough. she's my only child ( i do have 2 stepkids), so it's really hard for me some days.she just got evaluated for her power wheelchair, which she'll get in 3-6 months. that pic is from July, and she is a very content and intelligent child. thank god SMA doesn't affect the brain. She loves all our snakes too, she calls them her "babies".
it's funny to take her to the pet shop because when she sees mice she starts saying "nummy-nummy", because she knows that mice are food for her "babies".

here's some more pics, including a couple with her siblings, christian & sydney.

It's funny how personality shows even in pics... I bet she's all about the "I want to do it" and is hands down her own person, eh? She'll outsmart you one day (if she hasn't already)! LOL

Joe: I'm actually a wee bit envious that you live with donkeys...

Well you see, we round them all up and haul them down to the local car wash and run then through a couple of times. We make them stand in the drier twice as long and they shrink right down, under 36 inches.

Actually, they come from a wild population and have not be dwarfed from the Standard Donkeys at all. We have bred them down from 36 inches to around 32, and of course have created some cool designer colors, but other than that they are the same as their wild cousins.

I love all of my “Jenny’s“, from the Minis, to Standards, Large Standards and all the way up to the Mammoths. They are all puppy dog sweet!

Here is my herd Jack, 32.5 inches, “My World Dakota Red“. Dark Sorrels and Blacks are the hot new colors now. Now if I could produce the very first Dark Sorrel Spotted Mini Ass, I would be a Mini Ass GOD!

For those of you that may not know, Ass is the correct term for these wonderful critters. Donkey is an English name and Burro a Spanish name, for the exact same critter.

you pretty much nailed it. she tries to do everything by herself, and then sometimes when she realizes she can't, then, and only then, will she ask for help. miss lil independent:)

WIKKED- SMA stands for Spinal Muscular Atrophy. it's an incurable genetically inherited disease ( in corn snake jargon, my wife and i are both "het" for SMA). it is estimated that 1 out of 40 people carries the gene, and if 2 carriers reproduce, 1 out of 4 offspring will have SMA. We had no idea we were carrying the gene for SMA( my wife has 2 perfectly healthy kids from a previous marriage ). if you really want to know more about it, check out www.fsma.org or i'm sure you could do a search on google or something.

If burro is spanish for Ass...and you breed mini asses, wouldn't you be breeding burritos?
