I have always been interested in house geckos. Do the run fast? I have always been worried that if I got a lizard like and anole, that I would be holding it and he'd run out of my hand and never see him again... I know anoles are very fast, but what about house geckos?

:laugh01: I hope you mean guppies! If you mean gummies, i'm going to wonder if you're :crazy02: . Wouldn't gummie fish disolve in water?:grin01:

Rubber boas would be excellend and could live confortably in a 10 a presume!

IRT king house geckos are EXTREMLY fast.. they are not a pet for handeling more like a eye pleasing viv.. kinda like a fish take.. they come in bright colours but are lightning fast.. :)

Rosy Boas should be OK in a 10 gallon also, and they are so soft and squishy! I'm not sure if CA law will soon conflict with owning these, but you could probably get a Mexcian variety.

Okay, thats what I thought. Do you know of any lizards that are real slow movers?

Male House Snakes are usually small enough for a 10 gallon. So are Male Kenyan Sand Boas, and Male Hoggies. I have a male Kenyan I've been thinking of selling if you are interested. He's very nice.

Hmmmm...tell me more about the sand boa.

This is all really a bit premature, seeing as Worm can probably live comfortably in the tank for anouther 6 months or so. I just figure, it's better to think about in advance so I can do alot of homework on it, you know?

My Sand Boa is a proven male. He is very docile and I really like his colors. He is not really bright like some of the others that are out there, but that is what I like about him. This is a page with some good info on Sand Boas: http://www.kingsnake.com/sandboa/sandboa.html
Here are some pics of my guy.

Awhile back I did a sort of "native theme" in a 10g and it came out pretty cool. I made about 3/4 of it water around 4" deep, put some plants in it, and then made the other quarter of the tank dry land with plants. Some eastern spotted newts lived in there comfortably with two grey treefrogs for several years.

Woweee, those were fuzzy spiders!!! Those were awesome!! I vote for the spiders

I absolutly LOVE Your sand Boa!! I have been looking for one like that. I like the dulled colours alot better than the bright ones. alas for not living in the states (never thought I would say that :p ;) )
I like the spiders.. but that may be cause I was looking at some really cute babies today! lol
Be careful with Anoles and such geckos cause they need florecents!
You could get some cool frogs, I like Pacmens. but if you look around there are some really neat looking frogs.
I also saw a rosy boa today, they look really neat as well. but expensive here, they retail for almost $250! (which means they are probally wayyy cheaper there.)
you could keep a lepoard gecko in there, they can be lots of fun and really good to handle!

goodluck with your choice!

might I add that this is a dangerous thread *glances at the stack of empty ten gallon tanks* very dangerous.

Hahahaha. Yeah, sorry. It's dangerous for me too! It's usually HELL convicing my boyfriend of me getting more pets...but, figure, since this tank allready has a home and is small and out of the way, I really don't see him caring in the least. And, it would still be anouther 6 months or so until the cage is empty, meaning that I let an entire YEAR go by since the last one before bugging him again! *schemes*

Was thinking about a leopard gecko...I know they are alot of fun, and DAMN cute. But, get this, my snakes have ruined me. They've actually got me feeling too lazy to go buy crickets every week! HAHAHAHA. Snakes are PERFECT! I can keep their food in bulk in the freezer. Doesn't get much better than that!

There are two snakes I'm starting to heavily research now, Rubber Boas and Thayeri Kingsnakes.

The rubber boas are UGLY, but supposedly one of the most docile critters around and will willingly curl up around your thumb or wrist (depending on their size, the males stay really small) and soak up your warms for hours. And they're super easy to care for any don't even require a heatsource. But yeah...they're ugly! HAHAHAHAHA. But I find them extremely charming because of that. Definatly a rather unusual critter, and that appeals to me! :p

But, I've also gotten turned on to the Thayeri Kings. Supposedly, they stay small (average is 24"), are low maintenence and have wonderful temperments. Oh, and they're BEAUTIFUL!

And don't regret not living in the states! LOL!

LMAO! yes I have tried the 'scheme' ! I am very familar with all that can possibly scheme more animals in the house! As I live with my parents I am pretty much pushing it. but I go to school and housing here is expensive.. (try to get roommates that like Snakes ;) )

I am actually on the waiting list for a western hognose. that will fill one of my ten gallons ;)

The rubber looks pretty cute! I like it curled up on that finger! hehe. I also like the king in the first picture.

I have a few lepoards.. well most are at my friends place.. but I have one in one of the smallest exo-terras and she is a sweety! lol she likes to come out to play and is so much fun to watch eat.

My 'other' ten gallon pet is I have a Siberian Dwarf Hamster in one. He's my little man! hes getting up there in age, and I dont know what I will do with out him. he was my first hamster ever... lol not a pet I EVER conisdered having (but now have 4 in total :p) but a good choice all the same!

I hope you find something really cool to put in the tank and you have lots of time to find the most perfect critter hehe!
GoodLuck!

Maybe I was a blonde in a past life.

I started thinking...what...your snake has tumors? Why would I want a snake with tumors...

and then it hit me, right between the eyes...

BABIES!!!!!

Bwah ha ha ha ha ha!!!!!!

So, tell me, my friend. How big do they actually get, and CAN one live it's life comfortably in a 10 gallon. I keep reading conflicting caresheets...some say 10, some say 20, which concerns me. I have a breeder telling me all of his females are 24" and that they all live in 10 gallons...but, I can't help but wonder if he's just trying to secure a future sale.

BTW-

Every single time I post about a random snake...you HAVE ONE...or two...or three. Just HOW MANY snakes do you actually own??? :)
