What power feeding can do to your snake.... :-)

You can always freeze your surplus mice so they don't go to waste. Kudos for taking the advice so well, hope your little one thrive for you :)

Well, for every hobby that I started, I always join some kind of forum or find somebody who can guide me. I used to have lots of cats, koi fish and arowana. None of them go well with madam of the house.....:angry01: Well, wifey doesn't like snake either, but prefer the quietness, cleanliness, and space saving of keeping snake....

I am 40 year old young and the main reason to join this forum is to find guidance and I knew in advance that I will make mistake along the journey.... and hopefully, experience people will guide me back to make my new hobby a pleasant one.... thanks guys for the advise:bowdown:

I'm open for any good advice.... Just to let you guys know, how open I am, I didn't like buttercup (butter motley at all). I thought yellow color is not cool at all... I was going for bright color corn snake.... But my new friend ( who are keeping 10 corn snakes and 12 ball phytons) advice me to buy this little guy... He promised I will thank him later.... I went against my beginner instinct ( some experience in selecting kois) and follow his advice.... Now I love butter motley.... after seeing how the color and pattern develop:crazy02:

Back to the photos... here my daughters with my second snake.... and also myself....

It is so nice to have owners so willing to take advice and try to do whats best for our little serpent children :) Thanks so much for that Shakeyhand, I'm sure your going to be an excellent father to your two ;)

Anyway, yeah I find that the hatchling colors, and the adult colors are often quite different. My classic is really getting some fantastic orange and bronze hues to him now, and he's just as adorable as my amel. :) Plus half the time it's all in a look, and a slither, just how adorable they can be.

Good luck with your snake keeping, hopefully you stick around! Keep safe

Holy cow! That is quite a way to get 'broken into' holding snakes:eek:

Your daughters look very sweet/nurturing with that corn they are holding. They are very lucky to have a dad with a love of all creatures...and a mom mostly willing to allow them in the house:)

Enjoy your journey!

Just an update.... I'm being good and follow the forumers advise... start feeding my buttercup every 6~7 days for the last 2 feedings....

But.. but.. it breaks my heart looking at him patrolling and searching for food... If I put my hand into the viv, he will climb up to my arm and go back around my fingers as if looking for food.... This guy really knows I have a soft spot for him....

It's not looking for food.

It's looking for an escape route.

Corns are opportunist eaters too.

And you have more "Christmas ornaments" than I do, holding that beast of a snake.

Glad to hear it! He's gorgeous :)

A don't worry about his hunger...he's not starving, he's just looking for a way out...lol...I found my hatchling the same way...always cruising, looking for a way out..lol...but now that he is a few months older, he is settled, all comfy in his home :)

Awww isn't that little retic cute! Beautiful colors on him. Be glad you weren't holding one of my sweethearts big beautiful Burmese Pythons that are over 11 feet long.

Well, if he is eating the right sized food every 5 day (or so) I would agree he is out cruising for freedom.
Just wait until hormones kick in in a couple years and he is frantically pacing to get out and spread his genetics!

He's exercising and developing good, healthy muscle tone. Don't feel sorry for him! :)

I just got this thread, is there an updated picture of your pretty boy? Has he slimmed down any.

Mine get out and about all the time searching for escape routes, looking for food, moving from warm to cool side, getting water and just exploring.

I love when they do this, I can observe them doing what they do. It is great that he just slithers up on your arm, this can always be good to handle him at this time.

I do feel that he is slimming a bit... but not by much... it may take some time... Here he was enjoying his meal after 6 days period. I'm keeping a feeding journal so that I can keep myself disciplined. This is the first time I tried a large hopper and he finished it less than 5 minutes.... so he will resting for more than 7 days before next meal....

WOW He really is pretty. Yes it looks like his body is not SOO plump in the middle any more. Good on you for keeping a journal to keep you on track.

I am amazed that he is taking a hopper already. How old is he again?

Just a beautiful snake though!!!

I got him for about 4 months. The previous owner said he was about 2 months old when I bought him... so maybe 6~7 months old...

That's pretty cool. I would power feed but I want to be able to handle my snake in between feedings, so I can't.

He's looking really good :) He'll develop really nice strong muscles...slim and trim ;) Your doing a great thing for him, he's going to be a big beautiful healthy snake one day :)

This is a really bad outlook to have. The snake is this thread, which you called "cool", is overweight and unheathly. Although no one has ever studied (to my knowledge) the risk of being overweight in snakes, it's reasonable to assume they face similar consequences to those we know about in other species. For example, it is not an unreasonable assumption that a snake which is power-fed will have a decreased lifespan.

So no, it isn't "cool". It's dangerous, and intentionally doing it is irresponsible and detrimental to your animals health.

That is a beautiful snake. Great job on keeping a record. I know most of us on here do. It is very cool you are open and willing to listen to advice and follow through with it. Keep up the good work.
