Fun post! Thanks!

Whisper, because he is so pale and shy, but also sweet and charming once he gets used to the idea of being handled:

I also like the fact that it's not specifically a male or female name, because I don't actually know what sex Whisper is. And it can be affectionately abbreviated as "Wisp", which is just as appropriate to his shy and elusive nature.

And then there's Worm, so named because when I first saw a picture of him, I spontaneously exclaimed, "oh, what a cute little worm!" And the weeks of working at the rescue before I brought him home did nothing to change my name for him, so it stays. :) And the two names sound good together, so since they're both snow corns and kind of match anyway, why not?

782ef63c.jpg

I know I've already posted both of these, but I've been out of town for a week, and Whisper is in blue right now anyway (yay! my first shed with him!), so he's even less photo-friendly than usual.

As to my cats, Skinny D'Amato and Beauregard were named by other people, but I give them tons and tons of nicknames anyway. New Girl was so named because, well, 11 years ago, she was new-- but I think her Real Name is Apple, which only came about after I'd had her for several years. And Bantle named himself. I was spouting nonsense syllables at him one day when he was a kitten, and he seemed to respond to those two. So I tried again, and he responded again. It sounds ridiculous, but for some reason he likes it, and who am I to argue with my only cat who actually comes when I call his name?

Well, let's see. First, there is Apophis. He's my adult male Snow Corn. He was my first snake and I had no clue what to call him. I did an internet search on names for reptiles and came across Apophis which is actually a play on the name Apep....an Egyptian demon god who was usually depicted as a snake or reptile. It seemed to fit him and so it stuck. Click to view larger pics.

Then I got "Adam" and Eve as rescues from someone who didn't want them anymore. "Adam" actually turned out to be a female, so she became Lilith. Eve is the Amel and Lilith is the Abbott's Okeetee.

Then I bought my little Opal and Lavender Corns at the Wasatch Reptile Expo in Salt Lake City last October. I actually have plans of breeding these two some day when they grow up. I wanted Greek or old style mythological names, but not well used ones, so I went with Odysseus and Penelope. Odysseus is the Lavender male, Penelope is the Opal female.

Of course, I also have two ball pythons (normals). The male is called Anubis and the female is called Isis. I actually started with Anubis and got a different female that I had called Bast. However, she turned out to be very aggressive and so I exchanged her for Isis....who was much more docile. I had a thing with Egyptian god names at this point. First pic is Anubis, second is Isis.

But, I just couldn't stop there. I soon had to get myself a red tailed boa. Which eventually turned into two red tails, one of which is an albino. The normal is my male and since I had been playing a lot of Diablo 2 at the time, I named him Diablo. However, I couldn't come up with a very Diablo-ish name for the albino, so I ended up calling her Aphrodite because she's such a lover. Loves to hang out with you and is a quiet, curious, beautiful little girl.

Well, then I started having a thing for boas. I did a LOT of research and decided that my next one would be a Brazilian Rainbow. When I got this guy, he wrapped me 'round his little tail. On his side, two of his "eclipses" run together and form a large loop "M"....so he ended up being called Marius.

(Continued post for number of images used)

My snake breeder friend (whom I've gotten most of these snakes from, with the exception of a few) invited me to check out some of the Sinaloan Milk snakes that he'd gotten in. The particular one he had in mind for me was born with a birth defect on the tip of her tail that causes it to remain in a tightly curled stump. He knew I had a soft spot for these types, and when he placed her in my hands I fell in love with her. She curled around my fingers and then settled herself into the crook of my arm as if to say "Ok, let's go home!" I had trouble naming her up until I went to feed her. Then I knew without a doubt that Kali was the right name for her. She eats like the goddess of destruction.

My most recent acquirement was another boa, but a smaller species than my red tails or BRB. I decided to go with a Rosy. She is such a gentle, graceful thing. At the time of purchasing her, I had been playing a lot of God of War, so the bronze on Athena's outfit in the game was what this snake reminded me of. Therefore, she became Athena.

Thanks for looking.

My first corn is named Ray because that's his name....

IMG_3743.jpg

My second and third were already named when I got them (Ziggy and Peach).

My fourth I named Lily. I was hoping it would be a male so I could name it Severus, but it turned out to be female. Maybe I will find a Severus to go with Lily. :)

My one dog, Phoebe, and my one cat, Luna, are named after moon goddesses because I am a Cancer and the moon is my ruling planet. Pepper is a black dog. And Lilith my cat who does what she wants.

Pogo, my bearded dragon, is named for part of the latin name for bearded dragons. Sheila was named when I got him, but I assume it's because beardies come from Australia and Sheila is the australian word for girls...I think.

Here is Fen. He was named so because the first time I ever saw/touched a snake in real life was when I went to a conservation area on a marsh for a kindergarten field trip. They taught us what a whole bunch of different wetlands were called, and I just always vividly remember a fen being one of them. For some reason, I only remembered learning two things that day: what a fen was, and that snakes are awesome! Since then I just always associated the two together, so when I saw him for the very first time, I knew exactly what he’d be called :spinner: Happy memories.

The first one is Aztec, our reverse okeetee. My son named him after his pattern because he thought he looked sorta "aztecy".

The second one is Bones, our ultramelaner. He's named after the skull pattern on his head and also because his body looks kinda like skeleton bones.

The third one is Creed our normal ball python. He's named after one of my favorite bands, and we just thought the name fit him.

And last but not least, which was really our first pet, is Peyton, our kitty. He is named after Peyton Manning. I'm not sure if it's spelled correctly. We didn't name him because we adopted him from a friend.

Ariadne was named for a figure in Greek mythology famous for aiding the hero Theseus in killing the Minotaur. The Minotaur lived at the heart of a labyrinth, so Ariadne offered Theseus a sword and a ball of red thread she had spun to help him find his way through the labyrinth.

She was still a hatchling when I bought her and to me she looked just like a little ball of red thread all curled up in her container. So the name stuck.

I have 3 corn female
-Molly. No meaning really. Just love the name.
-Stella. Named after a kid show that I was watching as a child. Stella was a very active lile girl and very cuious too.
-Marielle. was suppose to be Ariel as ie the little mirmaid story (in french). but my 3years old dauther keep calling her Marielle as she seem not to be able to prononce it well.

I also have a red ear turtle called Sam after Sam the record man. Because of the weird move he does sometime. (said to be the mate dance to attrack ladies). I'll post pictures as soon as possbile.

This is Ares "God of War" because he hates me...I don't know what I've done to him, but he would rather eat me than any mouse...he's got serious hate issues, lol.

This is "Snakey" my 5 year old's snake that he named...(actually not REALLY his, but he holds this one and feeds him and stuff).

This is "Helios" because he reminds me of the sun...he's a great snake and probably the most calm snake I have.

I love him, he's great in some movies.

I know he's not a corn snake, but he's a milksnake.
I named him Speedy, becasue he is really quick and the color too.

Wow well I've got a bunch :)

Angel - My blue lynx point female. She was named when I got her. Her full name is "Angel of Death" cause she was the only lynx in the litter and she was the darkest of the bunch. THat and Lizzie had an odd sense of humor (her breeder). However the name has grown to suit her. She's the most loving cat with people, but she has a serious hate on for my other female catsand is a complete **itch

Sam - Also was named when I got her, hate the name, but didn't want to change it

Annie - My balinese lynx point girl. She was named cause she's a "little orphan annie" Her mom abandoned her when she was born, and her dad my heart kitty and love of my life Israfel died shortly after she was born... She truly is an orphan (I no longer have her mother either, evil cat, hated people)

Gizmo - Flame point siamese - Named him cause he reminded me of that little creature from Gremlins with his big bat ears. He's slowly growing into the ears, but the name still fits lol

Blue Belle - Named cause she's a blue snowshoe siamese and she's defenitely a "belle of the ball" totally a drama queen

The dogs:

Nova - Australian Shepherd X Border Collie - We wanted something astrological, and he wouldn't stop moving as a pup, a total super nova always on the go, energy to burn.

Pandora - My little husky/wolf/border girl - She has a marking on the back of her neck that looks like a question mark, and cause we had no idea really what sort of dog she is she's a bit of a "pandora's box"

The snakes:

Charmer - his origonal owners called him "Cuddles" and I'm sorry that just isn't a self respecting snake name in my books :D and really he's a real charmer. He's very docile and easy to handle and loves to just "hang out" he charms everyone he meets, even my snake phobic mother

Sassy - She too had a different name from her previous life, but was sorely neglected I felt she needed a new name and a new start, and she is defenitely Sassy.... she's got mega attitute and was quite agressive when I first got her and I always feel like she's giving me sass (she pooped on me lol)

You can see pictures of all the critters here:
