Why win't fluffy take live fuzzies? The guy I got him from said he was eating live but hasnt taken live for me. I know the whole thing about feeding live and f/t. It is just more conviniet to feed live

Please explain why you believe this to be the case.

THe procedure can be done in a snap

Done in a snap..........how ironic! :roflmao:

Anywho, there are numerous reason why pre-killing prey is desirable, the first of which is that it is safer for your snake.

Utilize the forum's search function and you will find many threads on this subject. If you have any "technique questions", address them to JM. Cheryl loves to answer questions on this topic! Right JM? :wavey:

Back to your problem:
There can be any of a dozen reasons why your snake won't eat. Temperatures, shedding, weather, handling, and even other activity in the same room as the snake can all be potential reason behind refusing food.

Am I to assume that you've never kept or fed a snake before?

Yes i have. He eats every 3 days when I let him. I just want to have all my snakes eating live. The balls are, my amazons are and my 2 albino corns are.

Are you aware that a caged rodent has the ability to maim and even kill a snake?

Has he EVER eaten a live fuzzy before? Did you breed him or did you buy him from a breeder? The reason I ask is because most big breeders buy their feeders in bulk frozen lots, and hatchlings are trained to eat frozen pinkies. Chances are that he may not have ever seen a live fuzzy before, and thats why he won't eat. If you want your snake to eat, I'd switch to frozen. Almost any store that carries live feeders will carry frozen feeders as well. I can understand why you would think it would be more convenient to feed live, but its really not if you think about it. Live feeders need to be fed, taken care of, they SMELL, and can do SERIOUS damage to a snake, as CAV said earlier. Depending on how they are frozen, a temperature cold enough will kill bacteria and some parasites and can help prevent the spread of some bacteria to a certain extent. Its alot easier to have 50 mice in the freezer than to have 50 live ones.

convenient??

maybe i missed something...how is is more convenient to raise and breed mice or rats to get maybe 8 pups per litter...then feed live to your critters...and then need to supply more in a week when it's time to feed again???

we all recognize the occasional snake that has to feed live and learn to eat f/t...but i can't quite recall anyone describing feeding live as being convenient. help me!! :nope:

Every three days is pretty often too. You don't want to power feed. Every 5 days for young hatchlings until they're on fuzzys, then every 7.

I should have known I was going to become the "How to kill it" lady~ :devil01:

There are benifits to both live and frozen feeding. I find the best of both worlds in having snakes that feed on both. Your F/T feeder will save you money~ Whenever it looks like your rodents are producing a bit more than you can use~ freeze off the extra's and save them for next summer. When all your live feeding snakes will be eating you out of house and home you'll have extra stocked up for your F/T feeder from the last winter~ you can also offer out F/T to your live feeders if you run low in the summer months. You can also sell off your extra if you wind up with too many Frozen in the freezer. (Be careful~ I cut myself to low last year and wound up buying rats this last summer to supplement!)

Like CAV says~ search my name in the feeder forum and you'll find plenty of ways to take them from the cage to the freezer humanely!

Good Luck!

Most of my snakes will only eat live no matter what I try. It is hard to keep track of which eats live and which eats f/t. I bought him from rays reptilia and havent seen him eat. He has eaten f/t since he arrived. (about 20 meals)
