Why would you have to--and how would you?--kill a hatchling

Never had to cull a snake only geckos, but the freezer or a good whack have been my route. I cull deformed hatchlings- selling them as "pet" only is never a guarantee if their deformity will even allow them to sustain a normal life, and keeping strong genetic integrity in any species is worth a whole lot more than one hatchlings life. May sound mean, but looking at the big picture its the right thing to do:)

No, i'm not trying to make the impression that I think it's wrong to kill an animal. It's the most humane thing. But it'd take a lot of guts for someone like me. I love animals too much, but I would do it if it was the best way, I just want it to be as fast and gentle as possible.

I've had to hold a lot of dearly loved cats and dogs as the vet put them to sleep. Sometimes the ultimate healer is death. ( I DON'T EVER say this to the owner at the time though. Its just not what they need to hear right then and there! )

We're not GOD. We can't save every one. Nor should we. There are a lot of instances where a quick death is much preferable to a slow, long suffering death. I am totally against any animal suffering. Death, if necessary, should be as quick as possible.

Just my 2 cents.

espeically with critters like corn snakes, getting the moderately defective animals to Eatch, move around, and be present in the environment increases the chances for the viable individuals.

While not useful in captivity, those animals probably still occur in our clutches, and are not going to be lunch like they would in the wild. Instead, we try to get them to thrive, but sometimes it just doesn't work.

I wish we could determine pain in animals more effectively, but at this point, it's up to us.

A general rule of not causing unnecessary pain to lunch or the diner seems like the best plan.

Did I miss the great reveal of the miracle cure? Because I've done everything from scenting to force feeding, and some hatchlings just still won't eat. :shrugs:

I was reading something about if a hatchling snake isn't "meant to be" you kill it.
Why and how would you kill it? do they mean non-feeders? I know a cure to non-feeding, so why on EARTH would you kill a snake? Deformity? How? :( :nope: This makes me really depressed!

If they don't eat within a certain time, the corns/guppies of the snake world are used to feed the kings and milks around here.. Whats the point of trying to push on those genetics of problematic feeders...??? I guess if I was in it to cash in I could whole sale them, or just sell them, but that tends to clash with my personal integrity .. I won't sell or give away problem eatters/non eatters.. I would rather give away or sell for a small charge a kinked after hatching baby..

I've had to kill one baby that didn't eat. I won't forcefeed, but I will try scenting, teasing, leaving overnight, live, anything else. Once the animal has lost too much weight, I refridgerate and then freeze. I no longer have a king or it would probably go to that. Any other babies I've had that were deformed, died in the egg and never hatched so I've never had that issue. I don't pip eggs so they either make it out or they don't. I would like to hear about this power aide bath as well.

Is there property issues? Does someone else own 'copywrite' to this..um...procedure? Is that why they're not just being posted? I'd be interested, but I hate 'super secret silly stuff' so If its all cloak and dagger, no thanks.
Freely shared info amoung us all...thats what I'm interested in. No PM's please.

Here's the pm I received:

Powerade bath

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

He didn't give a whole lot of info but here is what he did give:

But prior to this you would to obtain your snake and get it fully hydrated with 2 powerade baths for the first 2 days, then get either a feacal test or cloaca test done by your vet....then leave it in its enclosure somewhere dark and leave it alove for 4-6 weeks....no messing at all with it....only water changes IF it runs out or poos in it.

He was talking about parasites...no worries
