Why would you have to--and how would you?--kill a hatchling

I'm not sure how that will get a non feeder, eating. This sounds like a standard rehydration done for imports...usually they are adults, not babies. I use pedialyte not powerade, but they are the same. It's good advice for rehydrating snakes that have been in shipping for long periods, are sick or are on antibiotic treatments such as injections.

Agreed on the standard rehydration, gatorade or one of the reptile specific powders that you add to water also work just as well.

I guess the lack of stress from being left alone for that long might help but equally if it hasn't fed and you have tried all the other methods, then after another 6-8 weeks it's probably not going to be big enough/alive enough to feed!

Thats been my standard for dehydrated animals aswell...I kinda figured this is what it consisted of. Good advice for sick snakes like MegF said... and I suppose if a snake is sick they probably wont eat, but if its just a non feeder, this wont do much if you're alredy trying all the tricks.
Anyway. :shrugs:

I guess it's worth a try if it's a last resort. I tend to think that if it won't eat, there's something wrong. I also only give away ones that were hard to start. Usually to a teacher for school with the agreement that they won't be bred. I don't want the genetics in there.

Like some of the other posters have said... since natural selection won't be culling the weak we have to do it. I do not cut my eggs, they make it out or they don't. If a hatchling is deformed or won't eat with the tried and true methods every one knows about then it goes to my kingsnake.

I don't pip either. I think that if they can't make it out on their own, they shouldn't get out at all.
