Bought TONS of new things! Including another corn!

Has anyone here heard this expression:

Arguing with a child is like wrestling with a pig. You both get dirty, but the pig loves it.

It is an old educator's maxim.

That's funny. My sister is a teacher in Georgia and they have a saying down there about arguing with children. -- It's like trying to teach a pig to sing. It's a waste of time and it annoys the pig.--

For the love of God what on earth is going on in this thread?
I have read through the posts and I am really... appalled.
Does it seem logical to anyone that a person who asked a question, while obviously wanting to hear good things because he/she got a new snake just now and the first remark she gets is a condescending one about she/he not knowing about co-habiting?

I apologize, but the criticism that was thrown around here shocked me to epic levels. Afterwhich people are shocked to see defensiveness rising in the poster's replies?

If the said person is indeed a child- I think it is quite a logical possibility that the snakes -were- an impulsive buy. So what? is that a crime now?! a reason to torch the living day lights out of a newbie?

I am sorry, but I wouldn't have listened to anything said here with the tone that was used in the first replies.

It -is- okay to be a child, if anything it's the parent's fault, though I see no point or reason to point a finger- stop blaming a kid that is incapable of driving on his or her own to buy another tank when it is quite possible that they really simply cannot afford another one at this point!. The deed is done, focus on helping rather than being so condescending.
How can you be surprised that with the initial comments here you caused a child to be defensive and not trust this site?

I am sorry, but to me alot of this thread seems intolerant, very condescending at some points and counter-productive to the extreme when it comes to the goals of this site.

I am no administrator nor do I feel like I should be one- but I think the main goal for any site is to allow growth within the herping community and enhance the pools of knowledge therein.
What happened here does not fit to anything of the sort.

Before you point a finger have you read the other threads started by this child? The goal of this site is to educate believe me a few educators have tried on said childs other threads to educate to no avail.

When you have nothing more to add, than it is better to not reply rather than pass criticism in the manner which was handed here. That's my opinion and I stand by it.
If you choose to believe that this kid is "beyond reason" that's fine- simply do not reply anymore and allow others to try. Maybe someone else will get through to him/her. Or maybe everyone will simply decide not to reply at all.

In my humble opinion, said option is far superior to the current state of this thread.
As a newbie myself I have felt harsh and crushing critisism here and in other forums. No community is "innocent" in this regard. It exists everywhere.

If you choose to blame the user who opened this thread- by all means it is your right and your opinion is no less valid than mine.
To me, from what I think is a reasonably objective angle- I am not at all surprised with the kid's replies, especially as it would seem as though very little consideration was given to the fact that this may very well be a very young individual.

As long as said person didn't directly insult anyone or broke any rules, I don't see any justification for harsh replies.

You know, once the topic creator said that it was his father stopping him from all of these things, the comments were directed towards the child's father, asking him to read with him so they could learn together.

And his father apparently thinks we're all stupid. Emphasis on the all. So why bother defending that?

I noticed you guys said "high-end" snakes arent sold in petstores?

Could you pm me and explain your deffinition of "high-end" because the closest petco and petland have breeders they get their snakes from. Petland will charge you by morph. Petco, just charges by the Type of snake. And while through petland i can special order almost any corn morph possible, petco will just get different onces in, charge the same price. and i can pay 40 bucks for a lavender... which tends to be cheaper than from a straight breeder. Do you think its because its harder to track the Genes of the snakes?

For the record, im sorry, i did not mean to "hi-jack" the thread... please, continue the main discussion if you feel the need. =] Dont let me stop you.

"High-end" cornsnakes are more in the $500+ range from breeders (not retail prices from stores). I would be very surprised if a chain pet store had a Lavender or Opal (let alone knew what it was)...But, they are relatively inexpensive now and their are breeders who do nothing but wholesale to pet stores...So I guess anything in reality is possible. :shrugs:

Rich in Ky pmed me. Is there another Rich here??? and I honestly came on here so I could get help about snakes becuae this is my first time owning an animal not like a dog or a cat. Thank you Kokopelli so much for saying that. an another thing when I said I thought he was a lavender or opal, Cutter looked like them but I couldnt tell. I cant tell if he is this or that! Well maybe just one http://www.serpenco.com/shop/customer/home.php, Rich Z, as in owner of this forum and breeder of magnificent corn snakes.
Know one expected you to come on here and know everything but at least acknowledging we know something when we suggest it is nice. It is not just his thread but all of yours that made many of us suspect you could be a troll.

whats a troll? I really dont know <.< Actuly your guys adive helped me alot! and Im trying to save up money for buying another tank. today we went to the water park and all I could think about was if my snakes were ok together. I want to separate them but it really is my dad who is acting all "i know this, I know that" and thats what I dont like.

You should take pictures and upload them if you can. That way, someone will be able to help you figure out what Morph your corn snakes are for sure. =]

That, and we all Love pictures! ^-^

You won't have to save up much if you just get a plastic tub for the other snake.... but then again you would still need a heat source. But for hides and water bowls you could use items from around the house. A band-aid box or part of a toilet paper roll could work for hides.
