You got me !!!!!!! What i wanted is how does people react ,and why is that new morph tessera never in debate.Looks like a hybrid to me, and the nices thing is the claim by tessera is to be dominant, and situla striped is dominant.And people paid 1200 dollars for this!!!!!!!!!!!

Probably because the people that bred the tessera did the proper breedings to prove it's dominant AND a new morph? :shrugs:
 
He kind of has a point. You can't really prove that it's not a hybrid. I've honestly been thinking the same thing, but don't feel like getting flamed about it. From what I understood on some the history I read...The original Tessera's were picked up at a show and didn't sporadically appear out of a Cornsnake collection.

Has anyone seen a confirmed Striped Zamenis Situlus and Cornsnake hybrid? Is it even possible and still be able to produce fertile f1? Maybe that's something you could test out, Slangenbroed (if that's your animal)?
 
Brent, I know of all people it sounds so wrong from me to say that to him...But I did really mean it. :laugh: For what it's worth, I did Google Zamenis Situlus hybrids and didn't find anything.
 
If someone wants to send me one of those pretty snakes, I'll test breed it with one of my corns so we can get it over and done with once and for all. Actually, I think Walter has a couple of them...

Actually, what I heard is that they spontaneously appeared out of a clutch of corns, and the parents were known....and the breeder was reputable....:shrugs:
 
Does the reputable breeder have a name? It's been a while since I read up on it and I don't remember any specific name being given for verification.

I don't think it would hurt to follow up on the Zamenis Situlus suggestion (Google was no help). It is pretty ironic that they look near identical and are both dominant. I'd rather have verification then to pull it into Cornsnakes and later find out it's the result of hybridization...But that's just me.
 
I agree about the question this brings up (and I'm not flaming anybody either just that that does look near identical..)
But Slang, that doesn't go anywhere near, nor does it change anything regarding the troubles you're having. I honestly don't think you WANT to do the necesary breeding because you know what it might result in.
I have to add I think it's pretty crappy to cast dispersions on another person's project just to try and make a (irrelevant) point about people doubting yours.
 
Have to agree totally with tom e here....that's a pretty crappy post to make.

As far as the breeder's name, TME, I do not know it. I'll look into it and see what I can find out.

TME is probably right that one can't ever prove that a snake is NOT a hybrid. If there was ever a morph where it wouldn't matter much though it's Tessera. Being dominant you'll never have to wonder if it snuck into your lines. Let those who like them be, says I.
I'd be interested in hearing KJ's take on this though.
I know one thing he's not doing is calling a regular stripe a 'tessera' and then foisting it on people. He's done the test breeding for that.
