2009 Yahoo - Pro Football Pickem - Contest - Prizes

Well... It looks like San Diego was a terrible pick. I had Pittsburgh all week, and then stupid me switched over to SD last night. I figured that San Diego would play SOME defense... But NO, they can't do a darn thing. They're out Jamaal Williams (season), Shawn Merriman (sparingly playing), and Shawn Phillips just got hurt too.
Why, oh why would I pick San Diego. I should have ignored PIT's loss to the Bengals last week and judged this game with a fresh set of eyes. I just figured San Diego could put up a big pass game on a Polomaluless D (yeah, I said Polomaluless), and that they could also create a good pass rush on a weak Steelers O-line, and clog up the middle of an also weak Steelers run game. But without the two premier pass rushers (Merriman and Phillips) and crafty veteran DT (Williams), I am really just going too far out on a limb.
I don't think the game is any where near over, but SD will have to get their act together soon to stop this from being a blowout. PLEASE DO SOMETHING SD!!!

There is NO way Romo is going to put together a winning drive.

Great game though! I was hoping Dallas would win... or at least I picked them. Romo needs to be replaced, they can not win with him at QB! I say Sam Bradford 2010.
LOL. I told you!!! I can't stand Romo... he's NOT what Dallas needs. Can't hit a receiver in stride... gets hot for ONE game... and then goes back on his COLD streak.

Romo, ain't Dallas' savior. LOL.

And I vote for Tebow in 2010.

I couldn't agree more! I was actually going to say Tebow, but I thought I might get some negative feedback seeing some people might think Dallas "needs" a more "traditional" QB. I agree though, Tebow would be great!
Romo just looks like a chicken with his head cut off (just a saying :)). You watch him try to make plays and he always looks frantic, nervous, and unable to deliver the ball accurately.
Dallas is in a position where they don't need a Manning type QB either. They just need someone with poise and confidence, someone who won't lose a game for them. Their defense looked decent, and they are quite a force when Jones, Barber, and choice are healthy.

Sorry! I probably type WAY too much, but I just can't stand watching potential go to waste... And don't even get me started on the potential graveyard known as Oakland :awcrap:!

Actually I disagree. I think Romo could be one of the top five QBs in the game, easily. He just hasn't had a good coach(es) to develop him. Parcells I think had the structured atmosphere that Romo needs. Phillips has let him get away with too much and not held him accountable enough, and Garrett hasn't done much to foster and develop his talent either.

Keep in mind this is only his 3rd year as a starter. Look at some of the other good qbs in the league during their first three years, and Romo has done a lot better than them.

If they get a new head coach next year who can develop qbs or someone in who can, then I think Romo could blossom into a great qb.

You know... I'll grant him that. He HAS been a great QB for the Cowboys... He is second (according to a stat they pulled during the game) to MONTANA in winning percentage as a starter (there may have been another criteria... but I didn't record the game).

BUT, if they get rid of Wade and Jason Garrett, then isn't that like starting all over? Then the defense changes and has to get used to the change, the offense changes and has to get use to the change... almost like a rebuilding year. During/after that year, will we still have that wonderful trio of RB's, Witten, Ware, etc? I just wish we had gone and hired Shanahan THIS year so that all the players could already be learning a good system AND so that NEXT year they could really be contenders. As it is, it'll probably be the year AFTER NEXT that they could really do anything... IF they hold on to the players they have now... which isn't likely due to the free-agent system.

I'm excited for tomorrows game. Go Vikings!. I know I'm going to get beat up about it at work tomorrow with all the Packer fans.

I am too... although I probably won't be able to watch it. I hope to catch SOME of it, though. :) I've picked Minnesota... I just don't think that Aaron Rodgers can stop the combo of Favre and Peterson.

I actually have to disagree here. Garrett has done a lot for Romo, and I don't think Romo would still be a starter without him. I think Garrett has to go, but that is simply because he can't orchestrate a proper balance of run vs pass plays, so he tends to allow Romo too many plays. Romo is a flat out poor leader, coaching can't fix that. He also plays too shaky, and can't deliver a consistent proper drop back pass. He tends to try to move too much, and he comes up way too short on crucial plays. Yeah he occasionally makes a play with his ingenuity, some call it his "intangibles", I call it crap luck that's bound to happen once out for every dozen plays he screws up on.
Basically, coaching can't fix his inability to be calm under pressure, nor can it provide him good leadership skills... those are all on him.

Actually it's his 4th, and he's already 29yrs old. Most QB's start to show their goods by now, and with his supporting cast I would have expected much more by now. He's had a few good statistical seasons, but he has also been a post season disaster.

If they get a new head coach next year who can develop qbs or someone in who can, then I think Romo could blossom into a great qb.
I'll give you that. Garrett should stay if they can find a good head coach who can assume play calling duties, like Mike Shannahan. Garrett should go to QB coach, Phillips to defensive coordinator, and Shannahan as head coach.

Right now the Cowboys are in major trouble, and they need to do something quick. I'm not saying their regular season is a throw away, because they have enough skill to get a 10+ win season. But they have a 0% chance doing anything in the post season playing like this.

That's all folks. I've definitely got to go to sleep, these darn snakes kept me up all night with chores, and now I rest. Good night y'all, I hope to not relive the Ravens game in my sleep.

Well I am shocked. Week 1 I was 26th. Week 2 I was 23. Week 3 I was 19. Now After Week 4 I am 12!!! I am also either going to win this week with a Minnesota win or be tied (Robbie/XCIN) with a Green Bay win. Either way I am really happy with my improvements over the past 4 weeks.
