2009 Yahoo - Pro Football Pickem - Contest - Prizes

Well I am shocked. Week 1 I was 26th. Week 2 I was 23. Week 3 I was 19. Now After Week 4 I am 12!!! I am also either going to win this week with a Minnesota win or be tied (Robbie/XCIN) with a Green Bay win. Either way I am really happy with my improvements over the past 4 weeks.
Congrats on your turn around! Your experience is "Why they play the game!" LOL.

Just don't get too comfortable... the season is only 1/4 over... which means you have 3x as long to fall or rise as you already have! :)

I can't get comfortable either... that's why I'm HERE all the time or looking over my picks all the time or watchin ESPN/NFL Channel all the time. LOL.

Great going in your turn around! Hope your streak continues!

Will the game be on TV there? Will you be watching it if so? What time will it be there when it starts?

I have ESPN for 6 years now so I can see the NFL every year ;)
here in germany it's 11:15 pm now and I don't have to work on tuesday so I can see this match too ;)

BUT, if they get rid of Wade and Jason Garrett, then isn't that like starting all over? Then the defense changes and has to get used to the change, the offense changes and has to get use to the change... almost like a rebuilding year. During/after that year, will we still have that wonderful trio of RB's, Witten, Ware, etc? I just wish we had gone and hired Shanahan THIS year so that all the players could already be learning a good system AND so that NEXT year they could really be contenders. As it is, it'll probably be the year AFTER NEXT that they could really do anything... IF they hold on to the players they have now... which isn't likely due to the free-agent system.

With the right coach, no reason for them not to be contenders next year. Look at what Mike Singletary has done with the 49ers. They're probably not contenders just yet, but the job he's done with that team is simply amazing. Complete turn around from last year. With a few more pick ups in free agency and the draft, if they keep up that intensity then they're going to be serious. So in that regard, the 'Boys need someone like that.

I think Shanahan would be a great fit. I think Philips has been good as a defensive coordinator, and hopefully they can keep him on in that role, and get a true legitimate head coach. They do that, then I think they could be good next year, and a serious threat in '11.

Romo is a flat out poor leader, coaching can't fix that. He also plays too shaky, and can't deliver a consistent proper drop back pass. He tends to try to move too much, and he comes up way too short on crucial plays. Yeah he occasionally makes a play with his ingenuity, some call it his "intangibles", I call it crap luck that's bound to happen once out for every dozen plays he screws up on.
Basically, coaching can't fix his inability to be calm under pressure, nor can it provide him good leadership skills... those are all on him.

Yeah, he's a poor leader right now. But I honestly think that with a more structured environment closer to what Parcells ran than what Philips runs he could become a better leader. You're right that it can't really be taught, but I think he could be better in that role if he takes more responsibility for his actions and is held accountable.

Actually it's his 4th, and he's already 29yrs old. Most QB's start to show their goods by now, and with his supporting cast I would have expected much more by now. He's had a few good statistical seasons, but he has also been a post season disaster.

Actually its 3.5 years ;). But seriously, he should still have another good and solid 6+ years. Plenty of time to have a repeat of the 90's. And its just not him that's been bad, the whole team has been. Granted he did lose the Seattle wild card game with his botched field goal hold. But the other times everyone has played bad. Just look at the Philly game last year (not the post season, but still indicative).

I'll give you that. Garrett should stay if they can find a good head coach who can assume play calling duties, like Mike Shannahan. Garrett should go to QB coach, Phillips to defensive coordinator, and Shannahan as head coach.

I think if they can keep Garrett on and Philips on as defensive coordinator and bring in Shanahan, or someone with that type of track record as head coach, then they could be a real threat. All the pieces are there, they just need someone to bring it all together.

I agree with just about everything you said. Where we differ is in our expectations for Romo as a starter. I personally think he lacks poise in the pocket and leadership, the two determining factors in a great post season QB. He has the skills, and you're right... He does have 6+ years of good football left to prove himself.
I am just a spectator in the live train wreck formerly known as the Cowboys, and I'm going to blame the conductor (Romo). I feel like Jerry Jones made the train mechanically sound to get to the destination (SB), and Garrett has done his best to train Romo how to reach paradise without steering off course. But right now they're headed to hell in a hand basket, and something has got to change.

WooHoo, Vikings win!

I finished 11-3 this week, my best week yet.
KEWL!! Congrats to you!!

I've got 11-3 too. But I think I had one week better... 14-2 first week... I think. My SECOND week was the worst... Lost 7 that week (9-7).

Wow... I didn't get to watch the game. Any REAL good plays I missed?

I dropped down to 20th place, and finished this week at 8-8. Fortunately, it's early on, and there are only 7 points separating 1st and 22nd. I'm hoping for a comeback next week!
