2010 SPRING/SUMMER PHOTO CONTEST!

I thought it was a great contest with some great entries and I didn't win anything. I only entered for the fun anyways.
Regardless if a contest is "themed" or not - people are going to enter what they will. Voting is done by your peers so if they choose to vote for a photo that maybe doesn't fit the theme - then that is their choice. Best photo is going to win regardless.

My picture was taken with a 5 megapixel P&S... all I'm sayin. When you are dealing w/ 600x400 web images MEGAPIXELS do not matter.

seriously... this picture of my one of my 6 year old sons at the dentist with my 1.5 megapixel LG Cellphone. When resized to 600x400 for web viewing... honestly, megapixels do not matter.

I think in this case the ability to focus/balance light and what not would play a bigger role. It wasn't what I was talking about when I had made my first post. It just seems people felt targetted and wanted to defend themselves.

Beating a dead horse at this point anyway. I was just pointing something out that eventually got shoved away as people started getting offended.

I look forward to the next contest, I have a feeling we are going to see alot of great photos

Amen.

really I was simply offering up helpful advise. I suppose its hard to know how one is going to 'take' ones text on a screen... I suppose that's what these handy dandy emoticons are here for > so show that we are smiling while typing? :)

lol, really all I was doing trying to help. Again, text can is taken how the reader reads it I guess... aaah the joys of forums :punch:

My response wasn't meant to come off as angry/mean/rude at all. Sorry if it looked that way.

To be honest I was never getting offended or upset. I never really get offended about others' opinion of my photography, I do it for me. I was simply trying to bring experience from other contests to the table and a different perspective to the table. I see a lot of attacks happen after contests end on all different types of forums and I could see it beginning here with attacks on winners, notably on the beautiful coffee cup entry by desert, for it being all about the subject or equipment and not the photo. I just wanted to address all of the issues at once and came off in a sarcastic tone, I apologize for this and have expressed this to Jadie as well. The contest was ran well and I think that the best all around photos were recognized. Katie said it best, there were great photos and we all entered for fun, not solely for the prizes. Now, if somebody throws down a $10k challenge :eek1:... It might get a little more serious up in here lol :madeuce:

Great job to everyone who won, and to everyone who entered, I really enjoyed all the photos!

Someone has a very good question: The rules state that one individual person can only win 2 prizes per year. But what happens when they rank twice in the same contest? Do they have the option of skipping the selection of their 2nd prize for the current contest in hopes of being able to claim a better prize in the next contest as their 2nd prize of the year? I need to know how the community feels about this before I proceed...

I have no problem with that. I have a similar question--if a person has already won two prizes in a year, can that person still enter the next contest for the sake of entering with the intention of letting his or her prize go to the next contestant should he or she win? It seems either both or neither should be allowed.

I think it should be up to the contestant. If they want to use up both of their prizes in a year on one contest, that's their decision.

I agree with Putty with the "Previous Winner" category.

That's a really interesting thought and I think that if we had enough interest and entries in order the hold a Previous Winner category then that'd be great.

Also, I too think that it should be up to the winner when they'd like to redeem their prizes. Also, there's no way someone could keep track of all of that on their own so entrants would probably have to be on the honor system.. which wouldn't be that hard to maintain considering that if someone is being sneaky and tries to win a third prize for the year, SOMEONE would remember and call them on it.. and it's not worth the tarnish to their reputation to chance the fact that no one will remember them.

I totally agree. I picked both of my prizes from this contest. So I know I can't win anything in the next contest of the year, but I'd still like to enter if I have the time to take pics.

Heck, I'm still waiting to pick my prize from this contest, let alone worrying about the next one :).

I think a "previous winners" category is a great idea!

It really wouldn't be too hard to figure out if in the winner's list, the fact that they chose or declined their prize was listed as that was determined.

I also think a previous winner category is a great idea. I love looking at photos and seeing what people do and getting ideas as to what people feel is a great shot.

Hello again everyone!

I just thought it was important to announce what an amazing friend Kali is. She is congratulating my work on this contest by donating a Contributor Membership to me and I feel the need to say how appreciative I am of this!! My husband had decided that I didn't need one this year so it's going to be really nice to have my shiny thing back, and be able to send PMs as I please, and edit my posts!! (my membership expired a couple days after I posted the contest announcement so any edits had to either be forgone or left up to the moderators to do for me)

THANK YOU AGAIN KALI!
