2010 SPRING/SUMMER PHOTO CONTEST!

I do not know if I will be up to another contest neither of my photos got any votes. Heartbreaking as I worked so hard on those. I would have been happy with just one but to have zero? Ouch! I live in an area where the best of the out doors is grass, whoopee. How can anyone contend with you people in such lovely areas? I thought for sure a tiny kitten the size of an apple :*( I totally lost so I can reveal which were mine right? I so sad :( Congrats to whoever wins though, the other pics are very awesome. Especially the close up of the owl.

Don't get discouraged by how you did in a photo contest. Take from it and learn what others did and how you can improve your techniques and ideas for the next one :) Some of the best photos I've seen were created because the photographer had little background to work with and had to think outside-the-box at how they can make lemonade from a lemon. Hang in there and enter the next one and keep taking photos in between and who knows what you might kick up next time :) Most importantly though, if you worked hard on the photos and you really enjoyed them, then that in itself is the best win you can possibly get. There are plenty of photos I've taken that others don't like at all but I love. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder ;)

That is for sure true. I have plenty of pics that I love--they just do something magic for me--but others around me who have a very good aesthetic don't look twice at them. The original owl picture I submitted in digital manipulation (which is now closed, and I got very few votes) is like that. The original photo (attached) almost takes my breath away when I see it. I wanted to sumbit it for miscellaneous critters, but my wife and best friend think it's a boring photo with no depth or color. It does NOTHING for them. So I didn't and used it in digital manipulation instead. Didn't do anything for anyone there, either! But I took it, and it's a wild owl that was flushed from its resting place by "my" lemurs and it let me walk to within two meters of it to photograph it--it was below eye level for me. I've never been as close as that to a non-captive owl in my life, and it was such a beautiful little animal. That experience goes along with the photo for me--the excitement of possibly being able to get a decent owl photo, the excitement of being able to see it so up close and personal, the anticipation of creeping closer and closer, the frustration of being beneath a canopy of vines blocking out all the light--so I see it with very different eyes from everyone else, who apparently just thinks it's a super boring photo! :)

That owl pic was awesome, but I like the original even better.

Now getting a lil off subject: When I was about 10 years old my mom and I found a lil baby or young owl that was getting attacked by crowes. I never knew crowes could be so mean. They were taking turns diving down and pecking its lil head. We scooped him up and took him home. He had lost all the feathers on his head and was bald. He was soooo adorable. We kept him in our out building til he was ready to leave again on his own. I think about him often and have had a soft spot for owls ever since!

Also, as can be seen above, just because a photo didn't get votes doesn't mean people didn't like it. It just means people liked others better. I don't feel bad about that. I liked some others' photos a lot better than my own!

Same here. This just pushes me to try harder next time. This was my first contest and it was loads of fun I thought. Win or Lose.

I have to agree with the others, I have found many of my photos to be wonderful and others have not liked them, it just spurs me to get better and continue trying to win the "general eye" over to see what I see.

As for the original owl pic that you manipulated Steph, I love it!!!

And the kitten was very cute.

Just keep working at it, if it is something that you enjoy then keep up with it, as I always tell my children it is not about winning or loosing, it is only about the enjoyment that you receive from the "event" you are participating in. Hope I made sense there.

Thanks guys. I have been doing pet photo contests since I was 10. Somewhere around 800 of them now and only won 1. The prize? A framed copy of my own photo. I already had one :( Its ok. I have different fosters now so for an "other critters" category I would have fresh faces to work with and for the Corn snake only group I am due to have hatchlings. Lets say it, I am over the disappointment and now ready for the next contest! I actually just REALLY had my heart set on one of the prizes lol.

I think the problem was that members could only vote for 1 photo in each poll. I believe in past contests, you could vote for your 3 favorites in each poll. I know I had to flip a coin more than once...

Well...there are 17 prizes and only 15 winning photos, so it looks like there should be some "leftovers". It may not get chosen, leaving it possibly available for purchase or winning in the next contest.

That is true. Funny how that happened lol. I still would not get the chance to win with zero votes but now that I am ok with losing I am very happy for those who did win you guys deserve it!

When's the voting over for the finals? Only fifty some have voted. Get in there and vote folks! lol I think the original voters aren't aware that there are more polls up for finals.

It looks like the voting is over now. I actually had no idea there were even going to be finals until the polls went up. I'm a little disappointed because the finals knocked the picture my boyfriend & I took down to third place in its category from second place...oh well, c'est la vie! I must say, I did really enjoy seeing everyone's interpretations on the springtime theme. :)

I completely forgot about the option to be able to vote for multiple selections.. man... I should have thought of that. Next time we'll make sure that's an option :)

Neither can I!! And the winner of the fresh entrant category... It's kind of the same style. Maybe the same photographer?

:uhoh:  not to be a spoiler , but based on exif information both those photos were taken w/ the same camera ;) so I would say yes.
