A bunch of different questions for a new snake mom

Once he's had a few feedings, you should be able to watch him. It's quite interesting to watch. I've been keeping snakes for years now, and I always like to watch them eat.

As long as it's FT I won't have a problem lol. If I HAD to feed live I don't know if I could watch. I would do it, but don't know if I could get as into it lol.

I would really love to see him eat for sure, I think it is so cool how they can just expand and make it all fit. They are pretty awesome creatures.

That's a bummer that you have such reasons to be concerned for him. But with all the care it sounds like you more taking in making him a happy, healthy snake, I'm sure he'll do just fine. :) I'm just glad my girl didn't have any problem eating the first time and continues to be active: every night, I either catch her in the act of exploring or I find her in a new place. The past day she's remained in one location (hidden in the vegetation in the top left corner) but before that she was hiding deep in her moist hide, so she could be getting ready to shed after eating the first time in her new home. Hopefully she takes her next pinkie like a champ too. I won't have to wait as long as you: she's scheduled for tomorrow, since I'm using Munson's.

Gosh I hope you get him to eat. It sounds like he got a really caring owner. Don't give up on him. Good luck and let us know if he eats Friday!

when I poked my head in on him today after work he did move a little so I could see his face. I really hope he is moving around the viv and getting water and stuff! Need to put a spy cam on him lol. I would like to use the Munson plan to get his weight up if he will let me. We will see how tomorrow goes and go from there.

Thank you everyone!! I don't now what I'd do without this forum. You are all incredible!! I'll be posting as I'm feeding also :)

Every time you hold him in the future, hold him directly over his bowl, close to the water. If he's thirsty, he'll gladly accept your offering. :)

This morning when I peeked in at him he was in the same corner of his viv but he was in a new spot, finally! So I hope he is moving around when I'm not looking. I'm excited tool see if he will eat for me tonight. I sure hope so! Thanks everyone!

One completely sad, deflated, heartbroken, devastated person right now

Came home from work and poked my head in on the baby and he was again in a different spot then this morning. Came home after my uncle's rehearsal and got the pinky all ready in the boiling water and the deli cup all ready and went to get my baby out just to find out that he passed away. :(

I just feel so awful. I wish that I could have done more for him. Depressed, crushed, and disheartened....

Aww darn, I'm so sorry. Just know that it wasn't anything you did. It sounds like he was already too far gone by the time you got him. When you feel ready to get a new snake, I really recommend getting one from a breeder here. That way you can enjoy it and not have all these worries. I would also contact the pet store and let them know and see if they will give you a refund.

Well they will give me a refund. She had told me when I picked him that they didn't have any information on him (well first she had the wrong snake and told me that they had it for three months and it ate fantastic every Wednesday, but then leaving she said that it was the wrong snake and that they had just gotten it in and they had no records of last feeding or anything) but to try and get him to feed and if he didn't feed by two weeks to bring him back and we could wait on another morph that I liked. Just wish I could have helped him, but I do agree, I think he was to far gone by the time I brought him home. I just wish that I would have known a little more about them to notice before I picked him out and got attached and wanted to save him. I did do some research but apparently not enough and not from knowledgeable sources. I'm no stranger to loss, by any means, I've been a "zookeeper" all of my life and have accepted the circle of life, but it always sucks and I always bawl. Even with a snake I've only had for week :( Any suggestions on what I should do with the poor baby before I get to take him back to the store? I won't have time to do it tomorrow because of my uncle's wedding.

I would recommend putting him in the fridge or the freezer.

I've only had one snake die on me and it wasn't even my snake, but I definitely bawled about it.

Really any of the breeders on this site are great. You can also check the BOI over at faunaclassifieds.com to read reviews of the sellers before you buy anything.
