While GBCW posts are not something I normally respond to, this sentiment here has become a mainstay in American politics and is even becoming common in Canadian politics and it's infuriating.

Who are you to decide what America is? Who are you to decide what America should be? Who are the people who accuse others of being un-American to decide what America means to other people?

Is this the freedom you envision? Is this the American dream? To be told what to think, what to believe, in order to qualify for the title of 'American'? Is patriotism only for those who blindly support the popular views or the government line?

You are a fascist, plain and simple. Fascism is the logical conclusion of patriotism, of ultra-nationalism. You would strip a great nation of freedom, you would crush dissent beneath the boot-heel of nationalism. All in the guise of being a patriot, a true American.

For those of you who accuse your countrymen of being un-American, or being un-Canadian, or being un-whatever country you belong to, you can all go to hell.

What I'd really like to know is since when does being a patriot mean agreeing with everything the Religious Right/ Rethuglicans/ Ultra Conservatives say or do?
