Spare us the kindergarten life lessons.
Spare me the condescending sob story when you get caught complaining about the same damn thing you're accusing Susan of.

It probably would have been alright if she had said "I wish the fuzzy blue gobbledy gooks would find a reason to shut down the fuzzy wuzzy snookie pie did you know thread." . . . Maybe. :shrugs:

Now that's funny! I hope you have noticed that I don't participate in the blue fuzzies, not that I want to see them done away with, it's just not my thang.

This is starting to remind me of the GCW thread...(Where cs.com became infected with LOLcats for the first time).

Brent, I will not leave your bashing thread yet. In fact, I like you and Kyle and Jim and Chris and others so much that I actually come looking for y'all. Seriously.
I have had time to chill, and want to put some arrows back in my quiver.
I have no problem with Susan as a moderator, in fact I have asked her to step in when she would not,....maybe I shouldn't have asked, but she saw fit to neither arbitrate nor discipline at that point. Which proves on that occasion she was all the wiser. And I respected that then , as well as now.
In my job, as a counselor/administrator/businessman I have to wear many hats (all of which you all obviously see me without here on the forum---I come here for fun, camaraderie, and Kyle's news flashes). In my job, being able to show any opinion, partiality, prejudice, or discrimination is professionally and ethically completely out of the question. And the very hardest part of my job.
Occasionally an aside or a belief or an opinion does inevitably slip out, and it may be soft or it may be hard, but it's from the heart. There are occasions when one can only be disinterested and impartial and silent up to a point.
My only surprise/uncomfortableness in this matter was Susan coming forth outwardly with an opinion, and strongly, on one thread about another thread....to one group about another group, loosely speaking. I may be wrong, but I think this was on Robbie's mind.
All things considered, I think she has exercised restraint on us,....on this thread and elsewhere, on subjects, content, and the way we express ourselves. And I appreciate that. Immensely. And I truly believe this outweighs her remarks regarding the DYK thread. She did identify it as her opinion, and has acted in a far more indulgent and tolerant manner.
I'm not a particularly huggy or fluffy or little green monsters person, but that is schtick, and people have a right to it. It harms no one. I have my own schtick.....I love licking and daydreaming about the beautiful colors of all the vivid corn snake morphs. Is this silly? Of course. Do I really do this? No. (Although, like the Vinman, you only know what I tell you. You do not know what I do behind closed doors. Another awkward position to be in, when Torsten attests to one thing and Susan to another.)

Now, I want to go back to being silly....or not. The fun and the immensely thought-provoking subject matter is what has kept me here at CS.com. And will continue to keep me here. I honestly do not think there is another place quite like this on the internet.

Very well said Eric. I make the choice to stop by the DYK thread once every while, but I do agree that it's turned it a bit of a ridiculous ongoing "chat style" thread (Which is perfectly fine for those that choose to actively participate in it on a regular basis. I do know how to turn off the TV!), and I'll poke fun at it as the opportunity(ies) arise. ;) It's not any different than me busting my friend's (yeah, I have a couple) chops at lunch every day. Besides, what is life if you can't laugh at yourself along the way?!

when Torsten attests to one thing and Susan to another.
i would like to make my position clear on this point, firstly i am most certainly accusing Susan (or Vin) of lying about this, i was just merely reflecting on a conversation i had with Vin by Pm on the subject where i asked how it was going feeding the chicken etc and if i recall correctly he said something on the lines of that it was fine and he had had no problems at all hence i was surprised at him giving it up or reducing it if it was so much cheaper but not a problem. I have long since deleted those PMs so i apologise if my memory of the conversation was wrong.

as to this discussion/debate/argument (whatever you wish to call it ;) ) on the DYK thread, i am not so into the cushy cuddly side of it and it annoys me that so many post are made so quickly it takes so long to catch up on it but its great for telling certain people, certain things, without PMing them or similar. i also agree that it must cut down on the number of silly little threads which clog up the forum and have no real purpose.

Thirdly on Susan's view of the DYK thread, i can quite see where her dislike of it is coming from, i took her message about her looking for a rule to close it down as a joking exaggeration of her dislike for it (i didn't take it literally, whether it was meant that way or not i don't know). i think the mods on this forum do an excellent job and i DARE anyone to disagree with me ( ;) )! I am sure none of them would 'Abuse' their power.

Fourthly i think that the last few pages of this thread are far more useful than the early ones even, or rather because, they are off-topic.

OK, who do I see to reclaim the 15 minutes of my life that I wasted catching up on this thread?

Most modern theologians would agree: the only thing that would make this more painful and resembling Hell would be forcing one to read this at a Chuck E. Cheese.

Moving on,
Dale

P.S. I agree with Susan - even with my participation in it, I believe the DYK thread IS a chat substitute (with "repmail" - and thus, """abuse""" of that intended purpose as well - benefits).
