Breaking news for the reptile shipper!!

Yes, anyone can be a "bad shipper". My concern was that, in the past, each shipper had to jump through some hoops to get certified, so had to show they were at least somewhat serious. If they shipped "under the table" without being certified, and and were sloppy in their methods, at least it wasn't "one of us" (certified shippers) that was messing up. My concern was that once it is easy for every person to ship, even if they are just now buying their first snake and barely know the requirements to keep one alive, that there will be a lot more novice shippers making a lot more mistakes. It wouldn't take many escapes at a FedEx warehouse to make them decide to drop us all quickly.

I am not saying this will happen, just that it is a concern when encouraging a large number of inexperienced or one-time shippers to use a service. I think on the whole, this is a real positive, not negative. But we have to look at the possible downside in order to minimize unintended consequences. David said he is offering a video and FAQ section - that should really help. It is the responsibility of ALL of us to let the newbies among us realize that shipping is very serious, and can be dangerous if not done properly, both for the reptile being shipped, and for the industry as a whole. It just has to be taken seriously is all I am saying. And one time or infrequent shippers may not be as serious as regular shippers.

EXACTLY. :)

For the occasional shipper (less than 5 boxes a month): You come to the Reptster/FedEx portal and put in your address and the address the package is going to and pay for your shipping (at 15% off of regular FedEx rates), request the size box you need, and schedule a pickup. Within three to five days the box comes to your door ready to go, you can add a bag, deli cup or heat pack with your order. Pack the animal properly and put it in the box and put the included label on the outside over the original label. Hand it to the FedEx guy on your scheduled pickup and an email will be sent to both you and the receiver (if email address is provided) with all tracking info.

So, who pays for the shipping to get the empty box to me? How much does a box cost? And...with FedEx coming to my place to get the box with critters in it, doesn't that also come with a surcharge?

For the moderate to large shipper: Call the Reptster team and we will send out your monthly supply of boxes free. When you ship just go to the FedEx portal on Reptster.com and put in all your information just like you do with FedEx. Your information will be saved in the system after your first shipment is done off the site to expidite future orders. Put in the address of the receiving party, pay for your shipping, schedule a pickup and print out your label. Just like your normal everyday business of shipping. Pack your animal and send it off. You will also receive 20% off of regular FedEx rates!!! When your supply starts to run low we will send out more boxes. You must use the portal on Reptster.com or we can not account for the boxes and we do not get credit from FedEx for that shipment. You must be honost or you will not receive any more boxes. EVERY BOX YOU GET FROM US MUST BE USED FOR REPTSTER.COM/FEDEX SHIPPING ONLY USING THE REPTSTER.COM PORTAL.

Again...this schedule a pickup. Is drop off service available?

Also, how do you determine small versus large shipper? I might ship less then 5 boxes a month in the winter and early spring but once the babies start coming I might have 5 boxes a week.

This sounds like a neat thing...especially if one qualifies for the free boxes. So, David, how do YOU GUYS make money in all of this...especially with the free boxes and big percentages off. :shrugs:

Ok. These are great questions.

The box is shipped to you free of charge. No extra cost there.

When slow season starts order 5 boxes and hold on to them. We account for every box and only get reimbursed when you ship it, so please ship through the site.

If you schedule a pickup you are responsible for all normal FedEx charges. You can drop it off at any FedEx staffed location without a problem. However new rule.... If you drop off at a FedEx/Kinkos they CAN refuse it whether it is through us or not.

Everyone qualifies for this. If you have any questions please call me...727-686-5456.

We dont make much, and most of what we do make the community gets right back through the "donation to your choice" program which we might call Reptster-Aid. This program was started to help the community and that is what Reptster is about. We want to make a site that does make a little money dont get me wrong, but we want to help in every way we can. We believe that this program will create enough interest in the web site to make it profitable in other ways.

Let me know if you have any questions. Post here, email or call me 24/7.

Thanks,
David Young

I will be today! :) Course Im certified anyways, but this seems like a good set-up for me. Especially with free boxes, those things can get expensive quick....and I don't add that into my shipping charges. Now I wont ever have to!

Hey Michelle....let us know how it goes! Can you photograph the box....or describe it...curious if there is 'advertising' on the boxes.

Just ordered a few boxes to see how it goes, says it will take 3-4 business days to get the boxes, not bad.

Ill let everyone know my progress too.

Just wanted to bump this and get some feedback from people that have used Repster?
Just ordered my first set of boxes today!

I have used the service 2 times and saved $15 on each shipment. Completely flawless and easy as can be. I did use my own boxes though.....

I used this service once and saved around $20. It was fast and easy to use, practically the same as FedEx just through their site instead. I was very pleased.

I used it as a first-time shipper. I had a problem with dropping my box of at a fedex/kinkos--they refused the shipment--so I wouldn't recommend that. I had no trouble at all when I dropped it off to a large fedex station. It was great and saved me the hassle of getting certified at a time when I didn't really have the time. The how-to-ship video on the website was very nice and made me feel a lot more confident about shipping even though I had already done a good bit of my own research on how to pack animals.

For those that have used this, how long did it take to get the boxes from repster? I went on the site, registered, entered my info and ordered boxes a week ago and I still have no boxes, on the site it said 3 - 4 days. Guess I will have to call them?

I'm still waiting for my boxes too...Also sent them an email about another matter and received no response?

Thanks, it seems a bit sketchy but I'm wondering if they are just swamped or what, as from some of the posts here people have been using their service with good results and saving money. it's not like my snakes are ready to sell yet but I would at least like to be prepared to ship when the time comes. But if I need to order more boxes from superior enterprises and use my own fed ex account I would like to know about it sooner rather than later.

When my boxes came, it took a couple days more than a week. I think I'm just about at that again, but will give it another couple of days before inquiring. Let time, I inquired only to find out my boxes were due to arrive the next day, and they did.

Eventually it seems like they should get a tracking # for boxes automatically sent to you, but that hasn't happened yet.
