Daytona 2009

Well would you look at that! It's right there in front of my nose, and I didn't catch that. LOL.
I personally prefer the deli option over the others.

I think so too. I think it will appeal to the majority.

If we wanted - these options are also available:
Cookie Monster: Assorted Fresh Baked Cookies and Beverages. $4.00++ per person (minimum of 10 people)

Healthy Sunrise: Assorted yogurts, Granola, Assorted Fruits and Beverages $3.75++ per person (minimum of 10 people)

But of course - those are additional cost on top of the deli tray.

Is the Deli Platter an "all you can eat" type thing as hubby not only has special diet needs due to his diabetes, he also has a large appetite. And what about children's rates for the meal?

Good questions Susan - I will follow up with the hotel to find out.

Yup! Deli / salad bar sounds most versatile to me, too!

Maybe soup is good - depends on what kind. Cookies...mmm....mmm...but yogurt and granola is good, too. So many questions - good thing we still have lots of time! And it's a good thing we have a knowledgeable travel agent amongst us, lol!

I didn't catch whether the1 bedroom king room has a sleeper sofa (or something similar) in the living area. If so, we could save money by splitting a room with somebody - always something to think about in this economy!

The rooms do have a sofa, but it is not a pull out sleeper sofa unfortunately.

Well...there are always airbeds! Should be enough room for a few people. Anyone wanna save some $$$ and share a room? I am assuming that the price is good for 4 people in a room? That seems pretty typical for special room rates.

So would you have to tell them how many people were getting these things in advance or would they just have it available but charge you for at least 10 if they didn't get enough orders for it?

is there a way you could book a room for me Katie? and could you tell me again how much it is a night for a room just for a single person??

i would share if someone were willing but still need the price of the room again.

Occupancy per room varies by hotel and room type. Usually between 2-4people per room. Of course - my opinion is always - what the hotel doesn't know won't hurt them too. So if we book a room for say two people, and you want one or two others to share the room on an air mattress - just split the cost amongst yourselves and don't tell the hotel. There really isn't any way they should catch it (as long as you put the "do not disturb" on the door anyways!). I will check with my contact to verify what their occupancy max is for the rooms we are booking for at least information purposes.

I am pretty sure we have to place all the orders in advance with at least a rough estimate of how many people we need to feed - with a minimum of 10 people - so if we for some reason had less than 10 - we would still have to pay for at least 10.

is there a way you could book a room for me Katie? and could you tell me again how much it is a night for a room just for a single person??
For just a standard king suite the rate is $79 per night plus tax. A one bedroom king suite is $89 per night plus tax.
If you would like me to confirm the room for you I would need your full name, address, phone number and credit card with expiration. Your credit card is not charged at this time - it just guarantees your room for you. You would have until 6pm on the day of arrival to cancel with no penalty. If you are not comfortable sharing your credit card info with me (either via pm or email), I can direct you to a contact person at the hotel directly to confirm your room. You would just need to reference "Katie's Reptile Group" to get the discount rates.

I am working with the hotel about setting up a page on their website where anyone interested in a room could go right online and book as well.

I was kinda thinking on the same lines Susan as far as the "all you can eat" buffet sytle dinning.

I'm more partial to the same thing as last year. Even though it would cost just a couple more $$$ at least there is ALOT more different choices of food, drinks & desserts, rather than just a sandwich, and the space is included in the price as well.
Plus the buffet covers large appetites.

I know it was a bit "crowded" last year, but I'm sure there is some place that could accomidate a large party.

Robbie, is there a Ryan's or Golden Coral in Daytona?? I know they set up large party areas for birthdays and they may give a "large group" discount too. These two places have STEAK on their buffet.....:licklips: I'd take a steak over a sandwich any day :eatpointe

From what I gather, the only problem we are looking to resolve from last year is MORE SPACE.

Just my $0.02

Walter,
:crazy02: BOUT' CORNS !!

I'll see if I can track one down for ya. I know I've seen their commercials, but the website says there's only one up in Palm Coast (a little ways out), but I could have sworn I saw one around here somewhere. It's just a matter of finding it! Haha.

EDIT: I was talking about Golden Corral. There's no Ryan's anywhere NEAR here.

I did prefer the great food choices at Whistle Junction over sandwiches - that's for sure! And it is great for big appetites, too! But the space (and maybe some privacy, if we want to do any sort of programs, talks, awards, etc.) is a BIG consideration. If it costs a couple of dollars more or less to do it one way or the other, that shouldn't be a BIG consideration for people who traveled a long way for a once per year special treat. But convenient location, space, and privacy, will count as much as the food, I think (for many people).

IF we had any sort of program planned (and I don't know if that will happen), is it POSSIBLE that we COULD (or would even want to) have a dinner someplace to yak together at our tables, and then adjourn to the hotel meeting room where we would just pay for something like the "cookie platter" or whatever it was called (plus coffee, tea, soda, etc)? And then spend an hour or two with some kind of corn related program / discussion / contest awards / photos, etc.?

I can pretty much "go with the flow" on whatever is decided. But I would be more likely to stay at the hotel we discussed if the dinner was there, too, or at least very close to there (so hubby can do his own thing with the vehicle while I go to the dinner).

At least we still have plenty of time to explore all options before settling on what the majority wants to do.

Now THAT is an excellent idea! Dinner out, and then back to the hotel for discussion/awards/raffle time!

I don't know if Katie mentioned it earlier, but we had been thinking about doing a raffle for snakes with the proceeds going to a herp-related charity.

Well maybe a "favorite" from the heartier meal options could be picked and can be offered at a higher entry price than those going with the deli options...Just like Mom and the Italian one each have 3 different choices (Just like Mom has steak too!). If we picked one to offer, I'm sure you'd get at least 10 to go for it. I personally don't care what I'm eating, seeing everyone is such a highlight that food will definitely not be a big issue for me. I have 364 other days of the year to get a perfect dinner.

At the PIJAC Benefit in Anaheim, you have to chase the attendants down for appitezers and there really isn't a lot to go around, but I think the cash bar makes people forget about being hungry, LOL. Plus there are little restaurants in the hotel you can sneak off to for a snack to bring back into the auction. However, even though the food isn't what I'd have any other day, I LOVE going. There is no entry fee, but I'd still go if there were, even if the snacks didn't get any better. ;)

That is good too, some people can all agree to meet at one restaurant or others with different tastes or budgets can go where they please, but then we all meet later for a "mixer" later on. It might even give more oppurtunities to meet more people.

I read about that, and I'd be willing to donate a hatchling or two (depending on my plans for before the show, I was thinking about spending a few days with my half sister in Tampa, so as long as she'd be fine with a few babies in her house, I could swing it).

Ok Katie... sign me up for a room for Fri and Sat night! I am going to Daytona! :D

I will PM you to ask for the number to the hotel so I can reserve a room. *happy dance*

I can see where this benefits some for the choice of dining locations, but I know some people aren't going to want to be making multiple stops on the evening after the whole day at a show - probably including some of the people vending.

Personally, I think it is easier for everyone to have dinner and GTG at the same location. Especially for those who choose to stay at the hotel as well - then they have dinner, GTG and their room all in one location.

I wouldn't mind Whistle Junction or another buffet place again either though. My only concern was that after last year - it just seems to be getting more and more difficult to accomodate all of us in one location. Plus I don't know how the restaurants would feel about the potential of us having a raffle/door prizes/talks by breeders etc....

I can check with the hotel on the two alternate options (offering more than one selection for dinner - deli tray and Mom's choices for example) or about just using the room for everyone to meet up after dinner for a GTG etc...
