Daytona 2009

I arrive in Miami on Thursday evening. I wanted to see a bit of the town and then tour the coast on my way up on Friday. I've never been to FL so I wanted to really see some of it while I'm there. Mapquest says it's a little over 4 hours total, but I imagine if I tour the coast highway it may take me twice as long. So I'll probably get to the hotel around 6pm. My flights out of Tampa on Monday so I'm headed back with Katie and Joe on Sunday night. I'm so excited!

My mileage calculator says Orlando, where all the Disney stuff and Universal and Gatorland and everything is, is 53 miles from Daytona Beach. Wade.

No wade, no taxi's available! I mean why would there be a taxi service in Daytona???? ;)

I have a feeling Wade don't get out much. LOL

Well actually I travel quite a bit. I just couldn't understand why everyone was worried about transportation to and from the snake show.

Carol and Wade...what days are you arriving? We're looking at Thurs flights in and deparating on Monday. I'd love to go to the 'gator farm!

I'm still working on what we are going to do but we will probably stay a week or 10 days. We can probably put some kind of a group trip together.

Anyone in FL have advice on short stops I shoud make along the way?

I don't know of any particular points of interest out that way unfortunately. I have only driven that route once before. Maybe Robbie might have some ideas.

I wish I could get that Thursday off so I could head out a night early and be able to spend the day on Friday hanging out with everyone. As it stands now though, another agent in my office is off (driving her daughter to college in another state) and I had to fight just to get Friday itself off. And the way Joe and I are around here - we probably won't get out there until mid-afternoon if we are lucky.

So you probably _should_ shoot for Thursday! I work Thursday, but I could probably get it off. But I have to board my dog...

:shrugs: You can stop in Cape Canaveral and see NASA. It's about an hour or so south of Daytona. Unless you speak at least 2 different Spanish dialects (Cuban and Puerto Rican), good luck getting around Miami. There's not really a whole lot if you're taking I-95 up that I know of. I'm sure there's probably a few little alligator attractions considering you're coming up the side of the Everglades.

True, but that might take 2-3 days! LOL.

Sounds like parts of Highway 1 here. I know the coastal highways here will double your travel time. I might just go "half" coastal. I'm not looking for anything big, just especially pretty streches of beach to look at.

I do understand enough Puerto Rican dialect to communicate the basics. I've never spoken Spanish with a Cuban. But I imagine your basic stuff can't be that different.

The basics in any dialect are pretty much the same. It's mostly the slang you have to watch out for. :D
