First hook-ups for me!!

5:50am

Nothing different....Might just have to take kathy up on her offer. Damn! ok..3 days ago i was the happiest guy around...not so much anymore....we'll get her through this..of that i'm sure.

Oh boy...I was really hoping that there'd be a passed egg.

For what it's worth Rich, I'll be thinking good and relaxing thoughts for your Momma' snake today...and for you, too.

and of course, once you get the last two eggs out, you're going to be immediately focussed on the eggs and the excitement for them to hatch 8'D

Lovely first clutch! I'm hoping i can have as much luck when I start mine out... in 2 years... Good luck getting those two last eggs out ;_;

(this is much better I think to be sharing your anxiety over the lay than it is to be anxious about my exam...)

Can't wait to see the results!

Any that are within an inch or two of the cloaca are generally no problem. It is the eggs higher up that are more likely to cause problems.

Just get an adult sexing probe or small, thin, knitting needle (not a crochet hook!), some KY Jelly, and an assistant. Then call me after it has been 2 days since the last egg was laid. Tweezers are not a bad idea, either, although not usually needed.

I wouldn't worry too much at this point - at least not yet.

Oh Rich...your poor Momma' snake. Man, she has to be uncomfortable. hope fully that nice long drink will help her, as well as the swim. I wonder if lack of substantial exercise in captive snakes is the reason for so many egg-binds.

I believe it is lack of exercise, and pushing females to breed young and small. Someone on the KS forum said, that Calcium levels in the bool become depleted and makes the snakes muscles fatigue. So injectable Calcium many times helps, maybe even oral Calcium if it is of a quickly absorbale type. Of course there are many other reasons it can happen also.

Sorry, I did not mean to imply that Rich did not exercise his snake, maybe this was a bad place to make that statement? I just added that info, cause I have been in a klong debate on another site about egg binding and all the aspects sorounding that subject. Again, I apologize :)

Snakehead,

No offense taken....She Does get plenty of exercise...except for the 48 after eating i had her out for at least 30minutes a day...crawling up & down stuff...Anyway..was also suppling small amounts of calcium to the food items...perhaps not often enough...didnt ever belive a snake should NEED extra calcium if the food item was a healthy well fed mouse. As far as age..yes she's a little under the 3 year mark...but at 325grams and over 3feet..i didnt see much problem. I guess I was wrong...and now My Lil girl & I aer paying for it!

Rich we are all trying desperately to understand, why eggbinding occurs, and it happens to the best of us. I have had it happen too, over the years, and I still get very nervous everytime a female sheds her pre-lay shed. Don't beat your self up for it. My comments are very general, and I have had people tell me that even older females have gotten egg bound. So for now learning the best treatment seems to be the best way to help our females. I really enjoyed the video Jessica posted, cause it gives me the confidence to know that if it should happen to me again, I have a plan of action. I wish you and your snake all the best!

To add to my stress...today...while i was at work...a tornado touched down not 2 blocks from the house....we lost power for awhile...I'm assuming the eggs will be ok???? Power was out for like 2 hrs. But the house temp was mid seventy's according to those that were home. oh...and no..she hasnt passed the eggs.

Nothing today...going to drugstore...for some KY jelly...And writing Kathy a Message....Will most likely be taljking to her...I think she's willing to talk me through a Procedure to help loosen the eggs???

Kathy said in an above post to call her. I would. I am sure that it will be very helpful to have her on the line (and comforting). Good luck with your girl. I may be trying to contact Kathy in the morning for the same thing :(

Best wishes.

I don't think she was too small to breed, Rich. Possibly too much checking and box offering might have caused a delay in laying, allowing some eggs to get huge, but I seriously don't think any of this is your "fault."
