Jazz, that wasn't Caddyshack. That was Animal House, the very first R rated movie I ever saw!!

The clip was from Animal House, correct. However, the "Caddyshack" reference dealt with the link to the Evans Scholars Foundation - an organization that provides academic scholarships to golf caddies.

However, I can map all the Animal House characters to the guys I lived with from 1977 to 1981. ;)

regards,
jazz

Yup, you're right :)

No actually, if you read, it properly, I have no attitude, but I wont be told to be (careful) when I have done nothing wrong, Roy has a green name and power to sort out rule breakers, since I never broke a rule, he can not tell me what to do.

You have broken rules. You've been disrespectful. I'm sure that even now or in the near future you'll be getting that PM you asked for.

Careful...

Funny! As a bystander of this entire thread (I suppose until now), I was about to write, "Ice...thin...cracking sound...careful" but you beat me to it.

[Editor's note: I just wrote and then deleted a loooog diatribe describing a different email list service I susbscribe to operates, but it's apples and oranges]

I agree, to a degree, with Zach. With this many people and as wide an age range of people who can read almost everything on this site, it's probably better to exercise more discression rather than less. Which is not to say that there isn't room for well crafted inuendo or an artfully composed picture of a lovely or handsome member of the groupd here and there.

On the other hand, I have no problem at all with OT threads that are very easy to simply ignore if I don't want to follow (like I did this one for quite a while). However, this 'taint my site and I don't make the rules. So I try to follow them, mostly.

The challenge Dean, Susan and the others face is that a site like this can go from PG-13 to XXX in a heartbeat. In my opinion, they strike a great balance here. To butcher a line from another movie which isn't Caddyshack, they're our Big Toe(s). Let's all stand and applaud... :smash:

Back to bystanding...

Interesting. No, no one can tell you what to do. But actions have consequences and on a private site run by volunteers, it's up to their discretion what those consequences are. I guess you have to weight the choice. Is deliberately antagonizing a mod worth being banned in order to prove that no one can tell you what to do?

Having been absent for, oh, about 20 pages of discussion I've missed a bit. I can say, though, that Zack's point about presentation of the forum to new members is something I agree with in spirit (As I've stated when taking issue with other points). In general terms, regardless of who you're with, self-moderation is important. It's usually considered not cool to talk about your friend's wife's body lecherously, you don't tell your boss exactly what you think of them, etc. Talking without thinking usually lands one in trouble of some sort or another and so every single one of us will alter what we say and how we say it depending on the community we're in.

This forum has a clear and unambiguous rule about profanity. I personally don't have a problem with people swearing, even gratuitously, and have done it myself, but I've never cursed, even with odd characters on this forum because it's bad form to ignore rules of a private run site. Whether or not people agree with it is largely irrelevant. Free Speech doesn't require private entities to fund your soapbox.

.... since I never broke a rule, he can not tell me what to do.

Ah, but he can. Don't confuse 'rights' and 'priviledges.' Maybe you don't see it, but you've toed right up to the line and are leaning hard over it. Your language may be clean, but you're demonstrating an amount of disrespect that is inappropriate.

This is a corn snake forum and I'm all for clean language and no offensive remarks. I come here for corn snake discussion, but I also come here for the family friendly ads. The divaVillage.com ad keeps me coming back. If I missed something that was said it's because my eyes were drifting right.

Banned for not breaking a rule?

I was here before the mods where even mods, I remember actually making a thread suggestion the site had mods, in that thread i was told (we dont need mods ect.. ect.. ect..)

I have not broke a rule, I simply told Roy, who I like to call a friend, that I will not be told what to do, not unless I broke a rule, and the rules dont say (don't joke) if I'm blind and they do, please make a quote..
