I think I will call him Steve

When I was a teenager I caught spiders in the garden and took care of them.
I enjoyed this very much, but over the last few years I haven't kept one spider.
Until yesterday.
I was watering the plants and saw a little jumper spider running from the drops.
He was too cute (see first 2 pictures), so I gently picked him up
and gave him a home.

I think I will call him Steve. :)

i really wish that i wasn't afraid of spiders because it can be a hassle having to get someone to remove one from your room (well, at least i don't kill them, lol)

My GF is like that too.
I always leave them be, the spiders, when I spot one in the house.
But my GF insists I take them outside.
I think she's too grossed out to kill them.
[^ which is good]

It's the eyes that makes it cute, and it is kind of furry.
Definitely looks like a Steve.

Spider people: Is a spider's "hair" made of the same stuff as their exoskeleton?

haha, i kind of have a weird relationship with spiders in my room; if i see a spider web starting to form i just leave it alone because i don't want to destroy it because a little spider just made it, but as soon as i see him crawling on my pillow he has to go...lol.

I'm not entirely sure Alan, but I know that it continually grows with each molt. So it's possible. Tarantulas have two types of hairs: Urticating hairs (the ones they throw at you in defense) and abdominal hairs. I think urticating hairs are made from a similar material/same material as the exoskeleton (chitin along with simpler proteins), whilst the abdominal hairs are made of ... Don't know, lol.

Awesome spider by the way!

If I get the opportunity I'll shoot a feeding.shot and post it. for the fans =)

Feeding.shot. :)

"What a crappy picture!"
^ I know, but it's the best I could come up with.
Due to his position in his box.

I can't wait til he moults. That would be cool.

Thanks for the comment, but it's just a good camera.
I think that's the reason for all the "good" pictures.
But still, thanks :)

If its got more than 6 legs I don't tolerate it too well... LOL
Insects don't bother me, but spiders, millipedes, and scorpions do.

22.may.2008 Here's some Steve.
It's hard to get good focus through the walls of his tub.
And he's too freaking fast to shoot him with the top off.
but he's soooooo cute.
