I think I will call him Steve

quality pics. i am allways looking forward to whenever you update this thread. i just love your pics of steve.

23.may.2008 I came home to a surprise.
Apparently.. Steve.. is Mrs. Steve

When I went to work Steve was in a "cocoon" of web.
Nothing special. I've seen Steve do this before.
But when I came home, something was different.
There were little, orange EGGS in the cocoon.

25.may.2008 Steve is out and about.
S/he looks so skinny. I've removed the eggcocoon.
But all is well with Steve.
Look at that munching.action.

can i join the steve fan club please? i love this little guy/gal. this is my faveourite thread, i just love the pics!

What a superb thread! Steve's lovely:) I released my overwintering house spider, Captain Beany, but I think I'd want to keep a 'Steve' forever! My favourite spiders are the little stripey zebra spiders, but I never get any good pictures of them.
(Geek fact, I had a native spider fascination in my teens, and my best sighting was finding an Oonops in my mum's bedroom. I've yet to find a raft spider, but have seen a water spider with its bubble 'diving bell' nest:))

16.june.2008 Steve is doing well recovering from the egg.laying [Feeding picture]
and so are Steve's eggs. The egg.picture is from 13.june.
If you look very closely you can see the little 8legged babies.
At that point one had left the egg and was sitting there, waiting for his exosceleton to harden.
This morning all of them left the egg. They are cute.

Steve is too cute for words!

I agree :)

You know you should take the sac out (if you haven't already) as Steve may eat the babies :(

Yeah I removed it. I thought that would be a good thing.
And after some research I quickly found it's good to remove the sac (cos of the baby.eating)

But thanks for the advice.
Do you know any signs from which you can tell a spider's gonna moult soon?
