Male Popping Pic

There are certain Boas from certain areas that are considered "dwarf boas"

Hog Island
Cay Caulker
and I believe Nicaraguan Boas are on the smaller side...

Or there is the highly feared....

SAND BOA....haha

They are awesome, I have had some...but they aren't the Boa you are talking about :)

Go with a Columbian I just read a site saying that males stay around 5-6 feet.

I was talking to a boa breeder at the show who advised me that the first THREE years are vital in determining the size of the boa. Do not powerfeed.
You can start out from a young age feeding every 10-14 days. Adults can eat every 14-20 days.
You can easily keep a male around 5 feet without starving it...

Thanks! Hmmm... I'm liking the look of the Nicaraguan Boas.... I must control my temptations though!!!

Wow...big plans guys...I'll just squander all your funds in cheap b****es and alcohol...THAT sounds like a plan :D

I love the Striped Butters! If I didn't love the Striped Amels more I would be planning on those :) May have to buy one of those from ya:)

Oh yes..you definitely will!

By the way, I would LOVE to buy a striped butter from you when you've made 'em! They're one of my favourite morphs, but HELLA expensive.... Only saw it from one source, but they were running at a whopping 300 bucks! :sidestep:

I think that is what they run at South Mountain...that's where you got yours from right Andrew?

Yeah I got mine from Don at SMR...GREAT guy to deal with. My butter is a motley butter though...so I didn't pay 300 for him..But hopefully I'll be making a lot off of his offspring!

And thanks guys..... You just might have me thinking about a boa... But which boa runs on the small side??? I wouldn't want anything too big :D

Yeah I always said that a corn snake would be the biggest I would ever go...
I have always heard horror stories about people getting killed by their giant snakes..
But somewhere along the way I fell in love with BCI's and BCC's...
So now I say that THAT is the biggest I'll ever go...which I actually believe this time.
There is no way in hell that I could ever see myself owning a huge a$$ burm or retic...no way

I think those are absolutely hideous!! They look like giant worms!!

I don't think that not feeding it much will keep it small...I just think it would cause it to be grossly underweight. Just like I don't think that power feeding it would cause it to be huge...just grossly overweight...

But then again..what do I know? I'm still new to all this business...

Females do. I mine was either a Nic or a Columbian (hard to tell unless you know the parents)

He was a male. 5 years old. 5 1/2 feet...Very handle-able...better if you raise it:)
Personally I am keeping to Corns for a while...their gentle and explorative nature cracks me up, and while I never though it possible to love a snake, I truly do love Crush and Fletch! (And I just got Fletch tonight!!!!!) haha

If I ever consider getting into boas, I might choose the Nic just because it doesn't get too big. But anything-boa will be a while from now! I think I'm going to do the "start small" approach... I'm thinking about a BP next :)

Yeah totally. Like I said, I don't plan on getting my boa for a little over a year..sadly. :(

But I think it's for the best.

I never have been a big fan of BP's...
But lately I've been watching a lot of snakebytes.tv on YouTube and I have become really fascinated by that guys collection...I'm starting to reconsider my opinion on them!

Oh Em, another VERY pretty boa...which gets 4-6 feet (smaller being a male ofcourse) is a Rainbow Boa...GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!! If you are into that :)

Something about the BPs being SOOOOO head-shy is why I don't like them....I like to be able to "direct" the snake out of my arm sleeve if need be :) and BPs don't seem to enjoy that much...

I've always LOVED BRBs but I never knew their size as adults.... Okay you're going to get me in trouble when I start bringing home these boas....

You can't tell in some pics, but EJ their scales are iridescent...when the light hits them, they literally light up like a rainbow...amazing...

And most have those little markings that look like an eye and eye-brow on the side, which I find hilarious :)

Yeah I've seen plenty BRBs, even my local rep guy has a few babies for sale! I didn't pick up for how much though... I'll check it out for sure when I'm in there this weekend :D

But with that said, it's gonna be hard stopping myself from wanting to buy it.... It won't be for a while until I get one :( Not to mention the research I'll have to do first!
