We are all wonderful living things humans and all critters included but yet WE as HUMANS are the ones who DECIDE what critters are a nuisance and deserve to die and which aren't and WE are the ones who decide what IS and what is NOT cruel. Some things just don't compute here.

Like it or not, we as humans are the most intelligent creatures on this earth and by that very fact we are going to be the ones who take precedence over all other living things which would include, at times, what lives, and what dies and by what method (oh the horrid truth). Now that very fact does not make any human either good or bad.

I personally did not see anything in any of COerriccaRN's posts that suggested that she enjoys seeing other creatures suffer. Geez, talk about reading into things! Killing a critter because we as humans are the most intelligent species on this planet does not equal evil. Killing a deer for example for sport and killing a deer purposely in a way in which you can make it suffer for a long time are two ENTIRELY different things but apparently many of you don't see it that way. Now personally I would rather not kill a deer but at the same time, I don't jump up and down and scream and holler calling someone sadistic just because someone else may enjoy hunting and killing deer. Heck, if that were the case I'd never be married to the man I'm married to right now, for starters, cause he is that way, he's the type who would watch the movie Bambi and say, "mmmmm, tender deer meat". Now do I get all mad at him and call him cruel and sadistic? No. I might slap him though, LOL, cause usually he'll say stuff like that on purpose just to get to me, cause I AM just the opposite, I would be like, "aw, look at the little deer" and would never dream of killing it even for meat. Now by golly though, if I was starving and that deer was the only available food, would I kill it then? Heck yeah.

So though I personally don't like killing for sport, I don't have such a closed mind that I automatically dislike people who do and/or judge those people to be sadistic, that is just retarded, IMO.

Anyway, just a few of my thoughts while reading thru this long thread.

Oh, and for the record, yeah, I feed my snakes f/t mice, always will, but I won't condemn those who choose to do otherwise, I think it's a personal choice, to each his own as they say. I don't think a singe person acted, immature. I spoke from the heart and I am not the only one. Some other people did as well and tried to make light of the situation. All of that can be seen as quite mature!

I wonder, who gave us such authority? And being the most intelligence creatures on this planet, we have an obligation to use our intelligence in ways to better ourselves, our planet and the rest of the beings that are on it.

With that said, we keep snakes as pets. Snakes eat other living things. If we are going to be their keepers, we owe them and the rodents or lizards that we feed them at least, the respect of minimizing their suffering, and to meet their basic needs to keep them healthy and safe.

1. Feeding live is not "sick." I think its amazing to watch a snake attack and kill an anole the way it would in the wild. Its enjoyable.

2. I love to hunt. I enjoy killing deer, it makes me happy.

I feed F/T mice and rats to my snakes as well. I have had to feed a live mouse to a snake that wouldn't eat. He actually didn't eat for over 7 months and I did that in an attempt to entice him. That's the difference between doing something because you "want to" or because "it's fun" and doing it because you have to!

I like to hunt. I have hunted big game like deer and bear. I have hunted smaller game, like squirrels, rabbits and birds. I live and love hunting! I do it because it provides my family with food. I do it, because it provides a service, by keeping the numbers of animals balanced. That prevents famine and disease. So don't you think for a moment, that I have anything against hunting or killing. I just don't take enjoyment in watching an animal die. I take no pleasure in that aspect of it!

I completely disagree with feeding snakes live animals, when there is a safe and humane alternative. It endangers the well being of the snake and causes unnecessary suffering to the feeder. It's cruel, period! Yes, that is my opinion and I guarantee that I am not the only one who shares that it!

I am new here, so please just take my words as just that and nothing more. I've read every page of this thread, and there are MANY view points expressed in very articulate and persuasive ways. Kudos to everyone who kept their cool as any issue when animal welfare and rights are concerned can be a very emotional one. Perhaps at somepoint an agreement to disagree would be a positive move, there are obviously strong feelings and opinions here that are not likely to change. After all we do all have one thing in common and thats the thing that brought us here, our love and desire to talk about all things snakey.

I find that mildly offensive. I'm sorry if I'm being touchy but as a person with "mental disorders" that really struck a nerve. I am Bipolar and ADD. I am a person with TRUE mental disorders. I would prefer for you to word it a different way. As for spell check, so someone misspells a word bid deal it's not going to kill you. I really don't see a point to your post. I don't think it adds anything to the discussion at hand. I'm sorry If I'm a little rude.

I'm bipolar too. Don't take it too personally. If someone wants to stay away from me because I'm "defective", I don't want them in my life anyways. In fact, they should probably steer clear of my whole family since Bipolar, ADD, Alcoholism, Depression, and Schizoaffective disorder are rampant in my family.

Holidays with my folks can be really entertaining!
