oops, i forgot my pup, max.

It's short for "Maximum Velocity." She's beaten greyhounds across fields after tennis balls.....

and no, she's not a pup, its just an odd angle and weird foreshortening.

Any time to show off my babies is a good time for me!

Here's my pup, Barkley. He's part German shepherd, Wold, and we believe Shelty mix (which is why he isnt a GIANT.) He's 11, 12 this year in November.

Here's my MONSTER kitten, Brody. He's about 11 months old now, so he's almost a year, but he's already at least 20lbs. The doctor was shocked, because he's not overweight! He was only about 2 months old here...

Wow Jake. That is a beautiful dog.

How old? My sig. other wants a husky or a malamute, when he gets the time/ space for one.

and WOW, Merlinator- perigrine falcons used to be my FAVORITE animal, as a kid. Do you actually hunt with him? I didn't even know you could own a falcon- tell me more about that gorgeous bird!!!

Kiska is a little over a year old. I haven't owned a malamute, but my girlfriend has. She said they're like huskies but they shed way more. Huskies are great dogs if you don't own any small animals, because they like to catch them and eat them.

Kelsey, yes I hunt with my birds. I spend 4-6 weeks in the Prairies hunting ducks, grouse, pheasant and partridge. Around home we hunt ducks.
With the right permits and facilities you are able to own and hunt raptors.

I have

Horatio my 1 year old Rescue Kitty & Loki my male Brazillian Shorttailed Oppossum

Merlinator, will you release Scoop after several seasons, or keep him permanently?

I went to horseshoeing school with a guy that captive-bred Prairie Falcons and something else that I cannot remember...Cooper's Hawks, I think.

I was so into falconry as a teenager- I never had a bird, but I had free rein at the zoo and got to work with all kinds of cool birds- Great Horned Owls, King Vultures, Crested Cara Cara, Marsh Hawk.

Nanci, I had his brother for 5 years and he went back to the breeder and in trade I got Scoop. I suspect the same will happen with Scoop unless he dies or gets killed.
Most captive bred birds will never be released, but wild caught birds are very often released after a few years of hunting.

I didn't know if he'd been CB or WC.

So if a raptor can be successfully released after a couple years, why do some people have such an attack about releasing a WC snake or lizard (to an appropriate area, or even the exact area it was taken from) after a similar period of time???

ok I have a small zoo...you have been warned...
These are the permanent residents, I also foster for the shelter so I have a variety of animals around the house. Here are the 3 dogs I've rescued from the shelter over the past 8 years...I also own a hamster and 3 cats.

Butch, 9 year old Rhodesian Ridgeback Mix. Rescued from the shelter when he was a year old. He was going to be euthanized...he was dumped off because he was no longer a cute tiny puppy and no one else would adopt him. He's around 75 lbs.

Chloe, 5 year old Australian Cattledog. Rescued from the shelter when she was about 6 weeks old. There was an outbreak of parvo and the shelter was euthanizing puppies to prevent the spread of the parvo. We referred to this time as the "dark days" of the shelter....poor management and disease prevention led to the deaths of many animals. Only a few like Chloe were saved.
000_0062.jpg

Luchi, 1 year old pit bull mix. He was abused...possibly going to be used as a bait or fighting dog. He was dropped off at the shelter at 3 mos old back in February 2006 with his ears chopped off and various other scars and wounds. I took him into foster care when he was about 6 mos old and adopted him in September. He's a big lover boy...not a mean bone in his body. He loves other dogs and people. And he is so gentle with the little baby puppies I foster. The shelter staff refer to him as "Uncle Luchi" or "Mr. Mom".

Here are mine.

First up is Steve! Him looking out of his tent and then after his summer hairdo!! Mowhawk Kitty!! He was a rescue from the pound; got him when he was just a kitten. He'll be 3 in April.

Second is Violet. She's a rescue rabbit we got from a local rabbit rescue organization. They got her from a pound who had her in a cage with a ton of male rabbits who would mark all over her. They rescued her and then we gave her a permenant home. When we first got her, her fur was stained yellow from all of the urine that had been sprayed on her. Now she's 100% recovered and is actually starting to like people again. We've had her for a little over a year.

Lastly is Simon. I found him on the side of the highway with one of his siblings. When I went to try and get them his sibling freaked and ran into the highway and was killed by a car right in front of me; not a fun thing at all. Luckily I was able to save this guy. Here he is a couple of days after being rescued exploring the house.

I love Steve's expression...that "I'm going to kill you while you are sleeping for doing this to me..." expression.

My landlord has a persian and they get him shaved every summer. After he gets clipped, he hides and will not speak to them for a couple weeks. Sometimes he shows his gratitude for the new do by crapping on their bed. This is why I like dogs...... :grin01:
