Non-herp Pet Pics

I never thought I'd say this after a pack of chihuahuas set on my lab x setter when I was young, but Lord Vader almost makes me want one........

I have an almost 5 year old female Cockatiel. You can see pics of her on my website (see link below).

I hand raised my 'tiel, so she is very fixated on me. My mother and sister like her, but she doesn't like them as much as she likes me. She hates men (I find this ironic!!) She also doesn't seem to relish my GF, I think because she sees her as the competition. She can be very sweet at times, but she is currently in "egg laying" phase and is very very nasty.

She is a horrible pet when she is laying eggs. There is no male, she does it all the time on her own. She will masturbate on cage furnishings and is just generally a royal PITA to be around. Unfortunately it seems to be becoming more and more frequent. I took her to the vet today because she had now laid 7 eggs since Christmas, which puts her dangerously close to depleting her calcium reserves. I paid $100 for the exam, some liquid calcium (since the little snot refuses to eat cuttle bones or veggies with calcium in them), and an appointment for her hormone shot (another $50) next week. The shot might last 6 months... or she might continue the course, in which case I will be forced to either deal with it, knowing she may become egg bound or deplete her bones of calcium to the point where they break with a mere bump, or have her spayed, which is pricey ($500) and dangerous (birds don't generally handle anesthesia well....)

I am not trying to put you off of birds, but they are expensive, messy, and very demanding of your time... much the opposite of our beloved snakes.

I had a cockatiel who did the same thing. I don't know if it was a boy or a girl, but it never laid eggs.

Here's why I've got a big couch, Bob the cat, Ellie the dog and a boy sharing it

I've seen female hookbills do that- it's pretty disturbing. My male pigeons will hump people, but it's over quickly and just looks like they're flapping really excitedly! And it's easy to discourage.

If you buy a bird, though, you can buy one that is DNA sexed. That's not expensive at all any more.

My male pigeon Milly sits on fake eggs. He is so much calmer on eggs. They keep him quiet for about three weeks, then he figures they aren't going to hatch and abandons them and builds another nest.

Zena one of the craizest cats we have ever had.

This one has never been named. We call him Stubby, or shorty. I rescued him on the jobsite living under a conex we where getting ready to move. Took me about 2 hours to trap him using my lunch. His growth is considerable stunted very short and stubby compared to Zena which is about the same age. This is when i first let him out of the trap when i got him home. He was gobbling up an overdue meal. Thats been about 2 months ago. He hasnt gotten any taller or longer but alot fatter.

A lot of people seem to have chihuahuas... I was always told that they don't make the best pets... I'm guessing that's wrong, though?

Here's a few pics of my Manchester Terrier (Gunther) taking a french fry from my daughter. **CAUTION** Last picture shows what can happen when you run out of french fries.
