Official Daytona NRBE 2013 Thread

Everything I've come across says August 16-18, 2013.

I honestly don't know how our financial situation is going to be this year. I would LOVE to be able to go, but will have to wait to see how certain things turn out before making any decision.

I'm really going to try to make it this year also. Would love to bring some neat lil snakelings for those who like that sort of thing ;). Not a fan of flying; maybe some of us could get a carpool together...

Unfortunately, I will probably not go this year. I think I'm planning on Tinley this year instead. So I can also go home and visit family. Kill two birds and all that. :). But you never know.

I'm currently attempting to ballpark a budget for this but it's looking iffy. Being all the way up here in New England doesn't help. Hoping to scrape some emergency funding together.

Well, I got the vacation days I need to be able to go and have a few dollars saved for the raffle/potential snake purchases. Now to see if the family is coming and if any of us can afford it. I'm thinking we can handle it, but since I did no breeding this year, I need to come up with something else to donation for the raffle. Any suggestions? Vet related stuff for any species (non-prescription) is fairly easy for me to get, but what would everyone really like to see in the raffle and for door prizes? Any and all suggestions are welcome!

I have all intentions of making it this year after missing the last two due to my previous work schedule. I had forgotten about it so I missed taking the Friday off so not sure yet what time I would be making it into town that night. My boss knows how important that weekend is to me so if work is slow she will let me leave early, but if not I will be stuck here until sometime between 5-6pm and then have to make the three hour drive out that way.
I did manage to get Monday off though so not sure if I will stay yet Sunday night or if I will head back Sunday after the show.

The only thing that might screw this up for me is finances... Jeff is still unemployed and if he does not get a job soon I may be covering too much on house bills to be able to afford the weekend out there. And I still don't know if Joe is planning on attending with me this year or not. Too much up in the air with him right now.

Robbie - I believe you already held a room for me? Again, have to talk to Joe but if things go as I would like - if he joins or not - I may be open or looking to see if anyone wants to share the room.
As soon as I have more details I will update here.

I didn't do any breeding this year, but Joe did so regardless if he makes it or not - I might be able to get a donation from him for the raffle depending on what he produces.

If I remember correctly, I do have one held for you. I'll double check when I get to the hotel tonight, but I'm 99% sure I did.

I will be there of course. Sorry I have not been around sense like October. I got a new good job and it has kept me so busy. No time for anything but making time for my family. I didn't breed anything this year either just no time. I may be posting a thread up for some stuff that I need to move out. I really need to make my collection smaller. Just want a handful of high end stuff and I am super interested in. Not sure if I will have a donation or not this year.

I still have that gift card from you Robbie from last year. Is it still good? Do you have anything for sale/trade?

The family and I are making a real vacation of it this year. Staying on the beach at the boardwalk hotel. Its right there at the 92 beach entrance. Looks to be a very nice hotel. The family and I are so excited. Will be the first time my girl friends kids go to the show. They are now 4 and 5.

This will be my 19th show straight. Cant wait for my 20th reunion show in 2014. Not that anything will change that show but it will be cool for me.

Is there any other Daytona threads? Like donation thread, dinner ticket thread ext.

I am also looking to get something different and cool this year. Something I can nicely display, has a little size, that I have never owned before and is either snake or lizard. Any suggestions? I have had corns, a iguana, a savannah monitor, kings, rat snakes, leopard and crested geckos, chameleons, boas, pythons and I think that is about it. I am thinking about a few things like Sand Boas, Chondros, Bearded Dragons, Frilled Lizards, Blue Tongue Skinks, Pied Ball or some other cool ball morph, there are a lot of cool red ear slider morphs and boa morphs now as well in the latest Reptiles mag.

Josh, we're not having a raffle, dinner, award ceremony this year. There just isn't enough interest. We'll probably go out as a small group to a local restaurant for dinner Saturday night, and of course you and your family are welcome to come with!

I think if I ever get another lizard it will be a blue tongue skink. A cool personality, but doesn't need live food. It would be good for you, maybe, if you got a very tame one. Big enough for kids to handle with supervision.

Remember for RES you need a permit in FL now.

So many pied morphs are affordable now. Autumn breeds them, you know!

For this years benefactor, I've gotten a few PM's already about Rico Walder.

I am still entertaining for other ideas, but this looks to be a very strong contendor!

I see the current fundraiser for Rico goes through August 31, 2013.
I have to say, I am so very impressed with the out pouring of support for Rico. I have never had any interactions with him, but many of my friends are close friends with him, & I've heard nothing but amazing things about him!

I am so proud to be a part of a community that goes out of their way to take care of their own!

I do have a couple odds and ends, and of course I'd still honor it for you! If you're looking for a display animal, I've got a young chondro up for grabs. Lol

That is so sad we are not having one this year. I was afraid of this last year was a bad turn out. Keep me updated on the going out.

I was really leaning towards a Blue Tongue Skink. Want something with a little size and they are perfect. They eat cat food right?

I do remember that Autumn breeds pieds.

I think we took a pretty bad hit because of the economy. So many people were unemployed for one or more years. And then the whole python ban I believe has affected the show in general. AND there was the one year that FWS was _so_ strict with the vendors, about providing documentation, etc., that I think many people decided it just wasn't worth the trouble to vend in Florida.

So what is the tally? How many peeps are making it this year? Still looking good that I will be able to make it although Joe is still up in the air. I am really excited after missing the last two years to go back again. Even though the show has changed so much over the years, it is still my favorite show to go to and I really enjoy catching up with all my CS friends.

These are the main two reasons why I have not vended Daytona the past three years:

(1) The cost of vending: tables, license, electric, hotel, fuel, etc...and low sales was about 20% of my deciding not to vend any longer.

(2) Even though I have and keep this personal info, I think it is totally rediculous to have to provide and this was the other 80% of my deciding not to vend any longer.

:crazy02:BOUT' CORNS !!

Not looking likely for me this year. I have asked Don if he would be vending, and he will. Which means it's a great chance to see (& buy!) your very own Palmetto, as well as some scaleless and hets.

Anyone else here getting a table? I went in on one last year, but my friend and I had both horse traded everything we brought before the show started! Which Wayne wasn't thrilled about, I heard through the grapevine.

I wish it was in the cards, and I have stuff to sell and stuff will be there that I want. You guys take lots of pictures.

Who is there? Whatcha getting? Take pictures! Post them here!!!

Connie and I were planning to run out to Daytona this weekend, but the weather has gotten in the way. Flash flood warnings around here for the entire weekend, and it's actually raining like hell right now. So our road is basically just a long mudhole.

We attended the second Reptile Breeders' Expo when it was in Orlando (at the Twin Towers) as spectators, having only missed the very first one, then attended the third as vendors the following year. Last show for us as vendors was in 2009, when we retired at the close of that year, then the following shows (2010, 2011, & 2012) as spectators again. So this will be the first time in a LONG time that we have not attended the show in any fashion.

But maybe next year..... :wavey:

BTW, does anyone remember what year the very first National Reptile Breeders' Expo took place?

Bill says the first one (in Orlando) was 1990. I think we only missed one of them, in 1995, until the last one we attended in 2010. Haven't been able to make is since then.

So sorry to hear that the annual corn snake dinner and meeting isn't going to take place. Even though I can't come, I had hoped it had become a tradition that would live on.

As always, I will be curious to hear if the crowds are big, and whether the vendors were happy with sales.

Please keep us all updated by the end of the weekend!
