Opinion: WORST pet snake?

Robbie...

My Cali girl is one of Satan's minions come to Earth to wreak havoc and destruction on anything that looks like a finger, hand, face, arm, foot, toe, or any other body part within reach. She takes particular joy in not only simply biting/striking, but wrapping and swallowing. I'm surprised she hasn't tried to eat herself yet, but she has tried to eat almost anything I put her close to, including a snake hook, wussy glove, and a wooden spoon handle I was using before I had a small snake hook.

That was hilarious:roflmao:...I can see where you have decided they are terrible, is she your only Cali?

Yep! I had a mate for her, but he unfortunately died after a series of 3 regurges (even though I was following regurge protocol). He was a little $#!%, too. Although I have heard (from tyflier) that wild caught Cali's are sweet as can be.

And Nanci's Cali, Chocolee, of course.

Thanks for all the info on venomoids! I would never do anything like that to an animal, it looks like a lot of torture to a poor creature. :( If I ever decide to keep a cobra I will do it the right way, like Robbie said. Animals always first!

Also I will agree with Robbie about Blood Pythons what kind of Crazy Person would want on of thoe :sidestep: :laugh01:

Gee you would think the WC would be the meaner ones! Sorry to hear you lost the mate to your demon spawn.

Venomoids
This is worth reading.... I don't agree with the practice of venomoids, but these are the FACTS
That page seems seriously biased in favor of venomoid!
B - Venomoid snakes regenerate venom. Not so. This has been an established fact for many years.
That is a very dangerous assumption, based on 40 surgeries. The glands don't regenerate, but the ducts can in some species and they do make some venom.
Try

Good info Kyle! If I could give out more rep today it would go to you. :)

I feel the same way about getting cats declawed, Robbie. Not as risky to the animal, certainly, but I think it's cruel. They use their claws for so many things, it's like chopping off part of a person's finger. If you have cats, you need to accept that they claw things.

This is a very interesting thread. I was wondering when/if the radiated rats were going to show up :)

I am planning on adding a pair of Radiateds next season I think they are fine snakes just more for display sorta like my king rat

My family has always had just the front claws of our house cats removed... We keep them inside always, so they dont need to defend themselves, and, by the way they ATTEMPT to claw our furniture, house, us, etc to shred they don't seem to notice... I agree it's not a pretty thing, and if there were a way to get them to not claw our stuff without doing it, I'd prefer that, but there isn't... However, I'd never even consider declawing an outdoor cat (even though I have some strong opinions on why pet cats shouldn't be allowed to roam outside, but to each his own...)

Venomoids sound like an ineffective and thus needlessly cruel procedure, though. Regardless of the animal's status or need for venom.

I feel the same way about getting cats declawed,

personally I feel the same way. I grew up in a home that always had the front claws of cats declawed. When I got my own cats the bf wanted me to declaw them, but it was a firm NO for me. They have sisal scratch posts throughout the house and for the most part that is the only thing they scratch on.

My cats are all indoor as well. I just don't believe in getting them declawed. I always grew up with cats that had claws, so it's just a difference of opinion I guess :)

Anyway, back to your regularly scheduled thread....

I'm curious as to why so many people said BPs? I always heard they were great beginner snakes, on par with corns except a little larger and more expensive? I'm not a huge fan of their coloring or I'd be more interested in one, but I always heard they were like big scaly logs that will happily sit in your lap for hours watching tv.

The only kind of surgical procedures I see important to pets is spaying/neutering my furry friends. I don't need a bunch of little kittens and puppies running around.

I think they are okay for beginners, but they have more issues concerning getting proper heat and humidity and care than, say, a cornsnake would. Also they are notorious for going on feeding strikes. Personally I'm just not fond of them.

Have you asked them why? Maybe they're just very passionate activists. Free Tibet! :p

Even though my kitty is an indoor cat, I have to accept the fact that crap does happen, and if he ever does get out, I want him to have the ability to defend himself. Which is why he's not getting declawed. He is neutered, though.

I love my Radiateds. The male is a PITA, but the female is sweet as pie.

Like I said before, just make sure you have plenty of things for them to climb on and a nice big enclosure!
