President May be in Trouble

I played in a rock band.....does that qualify??? :eek1:

Also, In time of war...I COULD be called upon to make Parts for Military

use..does that count?? I'd rather use my Brain to beat the enemy as opposed

to shooting him.

Oh I understand that. Mark never shot anyone but loaded plenty of bombs on aircraft along with guns.

I am not sure everyone would be capable of serving in the military but some sort of civil service job I think would be ok. You can use your brain in that way to help beat the enemy.

I think it should be optional. Military service is not something we are overly proud of and there will be a public vote in spring next year about having to serve at all. Many people here are against military service.

Our civil service jobs are in old people's homes and in facilities for the disabled and have nothing to do with beating the enemy. They have nothing to do with the military altogether. People still learn a valuable life lesson by helping those who need help.

Well being a mother of a special needs child, sometimes their enemy is the government its self. So you still need to help them beat an enemy.

Wouldn't it be cool if all of the worlds problems were solved over a televised

game of quarter-bounce?

:sidestep:

This may very well be true. I just never looked at it this way.

Don't get me wrong, I find it very honourable that men and women risk their lives to fight for our safety but I still think it'd be better if we didn't need them risking their lives. No wars and soldiers at all would be much better - on both sides! Sadly this is not going to happen anytime soon.

I agree with you, I wish they didn't have to fight or risk their lives. It is hard to watch them go and come home a entirely different person. War changes people.

The truth about freedom is that it is not won with wishes of peace time, but by the blood of the men and women who fought for it.
And, as much as I wish that war would not ever have to happen, as long as we are still human, we will fight each other. It is in our nature.
Which is why I believe along the same lines as Mark. People need to do some sort of service for at least 2 years. Civil or Military, because even those who do not qualify for military service can do some sort of civil service. I think that service will help all people become more willing to contribute to society as they grow older.

Totally agree with you!

It's never going to stop if all people think like you. One has to make the first step. Not sure how this would look like but it's got to be done.

And no I do not think everyone should serve for at least two years. I am glad that we get to choose and are able to vote for/against military service next year.

Just look at how many innocent people people lost their lives in Afghanistan/Iraq. Only few were actual terrorists but innocent civilians. Not sure how one can be proud of killing innocent people - on both sides.

Our service memeber's are by no means proud of killing others. In fact a lot of them come home with mental issues because of the killing or seeing their brothers and sisters killed. Grouping them up in one group like that is ignorant. They are proud to serve their country.

Agreed. We are all human. And if we're still at war/fighting in 10yrs it's damn shame, because the people we'll be killing then, are the children we could instead invest in educating now.

The world inevitably will figure this out for themselves. The unfortunate part is that our planet can't wait around forever. We are literally destroying ourselves from the outside in, and resources are already scarce in much of the rest of the world. The military industrial complex will either kill itself, or be killed.

I'm just glad I voted for peace.

Most that serve in the military wish for peace but are realist and understand there will always be a need for their service.

My husband served 17 yrs. Do I want to see my children go off to war. HELL NO but I will support their decision if they choose to go. My daughter wants to join the Air Force and attend the Academy.

I'm just glad I voted for peace.

I find that statement funny because our troops are not coming home anytime soon. We still have troops in Iraq. Voted for peace huh. Let me know how that turns out. I will be thankful when all our troops come home from Iraq and Afghan but I do not see it happening within the next 4 years. I pray to God I am wrong.

Look at it a different way, what if there had been no military service to help stand against the Axis powers? Same is true for Iraq. The world could be a very different place.

Innocent people lose their lives in all wars. It's a sad and horrible fact. However, think of how many more people would have lost their lives if the people committing those evils had not been stopped?

I have family in the military that are proud to get out there and make a difference. Making a difference can be simple things like helping area rebuild after a disaster or it could also mean having to take up arms against an enemy.

No one wants, or is proud of civilian/innocent lives being lost. War is hell.

So if they are not proud of killing others and come home with mental issues how can they be proud to serve their country?? By serving their country they inevitably kill innocent civilians.

I think the only reason there are so many men and women joining the army because they are blue eyed when they first join and don't know what to expect. It is also beneficial for their life after the service (if they are lucky enough to survive it). For their career. Military helps pay education, etc.

No I am sorry but for me it's a negative thing. And this is not aimed at America only but every army there is. I am not trying to be ignorant at all but I just really don't understand it. Maybe it's because after the WWII people here are very resistant to join the Army and fight - we just want to be neutral and stay out of it all.

You know you can serve in the military in times of peace. Mark joined while we weren't at war with anyone. You can serve and never be deployed as well. Not every job in the military is going out on the front line.

Some of you guys make it sound like our guys and gals are souless murderers that enjoy killing both the enemy and the innocent.
