Release or Euthanize Cornsnakes? What's your opinion?

So I just scanned this thread, I'm too lazy to read 24 pages at the mo. First I'd like to say, I'm definitely on the 'not releasing to the wild' side of the argument. Second I'd like to say, :roflmao: this thread sure had some hilarious posts.

I'm with you.

Why someone would think that an animal not thriving in a very controlled environment would suddenly begin to thrive in a very uncontrolled environment, is mind boggling. We provide everything a snake needs. Heat, safety, meals, cleanliness and in some cases medicine. If they dont thrive in that, it aint meant to be!

A snake refusing offered food is not going to hunt when they didn't eat what they were given to them in the first place.

The law of the land is survival of the fittest, and quite frankly I think releasing animals who are not fittest, is cruel.

They are going to starve and die miserable deaths or get eaten and ripped apart by another animal.

You know I want to come back with some really witty comment but I think he really means it.
Thank you, Wade. You are one, among others, that I feel I particularly let down. I am glad to know that you perceive the difference between occasions when I'm engaging in jocularity, and when I am being absolutely serious.

http://www2.creighton.edu/fileadmin/user/ResearchCompliance/IACUC/forms/Euthanasia_Guidelines.htm

From what I see here, it can be used, but then has to be followed by a physical means after prolonged exposure...

My favorite part of this, of course, is that freezing is NOT an acceptable method!!

I have a dumb question. Do vets not euthanize snakes how they would a dog? Is it too expensive for a measley little snake?

My friend had her anole PTS and it was 46 bucks.

Rotach-

Do NOT PM me so you can be juvenile, rude and insulting in a personal message so everyone else cannot see. You want to reply to me, do it to my post.

You're getting yelled at so you're taking your tantrums and childish antics to PM's. I will respond to any post I feel like, at any time. Grow up!

Don't belittle someone by your "how old are you" post. You clearly see many people in this thread were given infractions for their behavior, then you come along and toss more gas on the fire. Not cool. My PM contained nothing inappropriate. Please copy and paste it here so you can't exaggerate me into looking like I am still breaking rules.

Well, I hope what I am about to say isn't breaking any rules, so here goes.

I love this hobby.
I mean I really really love this hobby.
There are new laws being proposed everyday that endanger this hobby.
As it is right now there are cities that do not allow reptile or amphibian keeping OF ANY KIND.
Rotach, there are laws against releasing captive animals into the wild.
It destroys ecosystems, spreads disease, and is unbelieveably cruel to the CAPTIVE animal you are releasing.
Apparently, that means absolutely nothing to you.

People like you endanger this hobby that I love.
People like you give this hobby, and people like me, a bad name.
And believe me, that means something to ME.

If it were possible, I would do everything within my power to ensure that you are banned from animal ownership for life.

Actually, I was genuinely asking. I have never seen an adult outright threaten someone on a moderated message board before and not be immediately banned.

You have belittled on this thread, anyone who had't agreed with you, and you have poured gas on it numerous times after it died out.

If the notion that you are juvenile bothers you, act like an adult.

BTW- If your PM wasn't inappropriate, why didn't you post what you said here?

Well that was worth the last 45 minutes of reading/skimming though this thread. If you look back at the post (post #201) that he lists what he just released, anybody notice that he can't count? I am hesitant to believe that he is indeed 30, more like 3.

Wade, I apologize if that belittled/offended you at all. Given the text that surrounded it, I thought you would have known that I was kidding. None the less, my honest apologies to you. 58 is not old.

Starsevol, (banning me from animal ownership for life) I take the utmost care of my 3 snakes. Their needs for a healthy and long life are tended and provided regularly. You seem very rude and outlandish to want to ban my animal ownership for life, due to the fact that I would never put one of my animals in the freezer. If you can produce any proof stating that I would be breaking any laws by releasing a captive corn snake into the wild in NY, I would really like to see them.

One of my corn snakes has a large ugly kink in her back, somewhat behind her head. She looks like a large hump-back snake. She was my first purchase as a neonate and I brought her home specifically because of that ugly hump.

I wanted to be the one to take the ugly duckling home because no one else probably would. This was over a year ago and she is thriving and eating excellent, if she even possesses the emotion to be happy, then I'd bet on it that she is.

In the beginning, my whole argument here was that I disagree with putting an animal in the freezer for being kinked when it could otherwise lead a normal life. I think all life is to precious for that.

Maybe I would be turning a blind eye to a sick or dying snake by letting it go. Maybe that is selfish, maybe I'm too sensitive. Point is, I heard everyone's opinion, and I still stand by my own. So respect my thoughts on this as I respect yours.

2.) The old one; Wade.

2.) The annoying one who just sraight bothered me; jpccusa.
Wade, (the first number 2), I think this is even better than "Wayne".

So I don't get it, is the kettle black or not?
Wade, I have the utmost respect for those who post their age. Those who don't, make me think they have something to hide. Be it being a neophyte or an older newbie shy about asking/saying things newbie-ish.
When I see age, my gut reaction is respect. When I see odd posts and no age, I think very young....trying to perpetrate wisdom and experience by not putting their age. There are times when members, with posted ages of 15 plus/minus a couple of years, are excused for having less than worldly perspectives.

Oh yeah, I feed off/freeze anything with a kink, or anything (excluding alterna and annulata) that refuses to eat after offering 3 meals (FT, live, and sented).

Mike, you have a dog holding a duck in it's mouth in your picture. That right there says I can count higher then you.
