Thou shall have a fishie...

The betta addiction may be easier to curb than the snake addiction if you get a corn! Seriously, think of the betta addiction 10 fold! NO! Make that 20 times more addictive...

I don't know how much more addictive it can be.
I got one betta in june, then near the end of october.
Then one a few days later...and then another...and another etc etc
I had like 9 bettas before the year was out.
Unfortunatly some of them were rescues and were in a sad state when I got them and I was unable to nurse them back to health :sobstory:

I got my first two corns this time last year... After that I had 31 snakes at one point, now down to 13... But I sold the crap and I have some nice stuff on the way!

Elle, it would have made such a funny video clip! George was soaked to his skin, I was putting pressure on the bleeding point with one hand, scooping up the fish into the half-bowl that was left with the other, telling one of the boys to ring for an ambulance and the other to get the dog out of the way (of course she was trying to help and jumping where the glass and the FISH was). After I'd saved the fish I stripped off george's wet clothes and he was hanging on to his pants for dear life, his brothers had to help get them off and put dry clothes on him because I couldn't let go of his arm. He had a big shard still in his arm that I couldn't let him dislodge in case he bled out. When we got to casualty word got around so we were visited by a few of my colleagues. Somehow he missed every major vessel and the nerves so has just some small scars to show for it

What a kafufffle!!! Just think, if it had been anyone that didn't know about nursey things, it could have been a really seriously injury!

Does George resent fish in any way now?! I know I would LOL

Oh and I don't know if I mentioned it before but yes bettas DO breath air which is why they do not require filtration.
As long as they have water to cover them they can survive for quite a bit out of the water before..err...well drying out.
I've seen some people who have literally had what looks like a betta crisp, put it back in the water and have the fish come back to life. Sure it was really injured and missing a lot of scales...but damn, they're resiliant little buggers!

Nope, he told his friends how cool it was that I not only stopped him bleeding, but also saved our fish. (Actually the hardest thing was stopping him from panicking, keeping him from looking at his injuries and fainting which would have made the situation a whole lot harder).

Fish are addicting but im gonna have to go with elle on this one corns are up there. I currently have a ten gallon up and running with neon tetras and i also breed african cichlids so i have a 5.5 egg maturing tank and a 55 gallon for the juvies and a 125 gallon for the adults. I can try to get some pictures if anybody is interested. Before i got my first corn i had over 20 tanks running in my room but now its slowed down to just cichlids and instead i have over 20 corns in my room :).

I keep goldies, mainly fancies (not surprising as even the comets/shubs are technically fancies...)
As I think I mentioned in another thread, my family has always been big on goldfish. My parents bred them. It was pretty much inevitable that I'd have to keep them myself one day ;)

I can't get any good pics of my tank, but here's a pic of my favourite fishy. He is a Japanese Ryukin, his name is Sunny ;)

Hubby is the fish person around here. We used to have quite a few more fish in the tank but we lost them one by one over the past 2 years. Now there's only this big guy and one eel sort of thing left. After they go, hubby wants to just get a bunch of little schooling stuff instead of the larger fish.

I really like them! I sort of wish I had been patient enough for the fantails and moors but oh well... I'll just have to set up ANOTHER tank!!! :grin01:

Sounds like a plan ;)
The fancy fancies... ie the round bodied sort... are harder to maintain, they're not as hardy as the comets/shubs/etc and they are prone to gas bladder problems. They are beautiful little creatures though. If you want to get in to fancies, Ryukins are great.... not too hard to please and they have great personalities. Sunny gets genuinely excited whenever I come in to sight of his tank. :grin01:

Unfortunately I have recently lost a couple of my fishies so Sunny is after a few new tankmates... ah the joys of being an animal keeper!

Yeah I knew that... I discovered that after losing a few fantails years ago. I REALLY want some black moors and calico orandas. Shub coloured fantails would be awesome! Urgh why oh why did I get fishies? Its going to turn into another obsession I can't afford LOL

Hehe... by the way, since I saw you writing Barbra 3 times with 2 A's... I want to let you know it is with 3; Barbara ;)

I'll answer to most anything, my name is so often misspelled, that's why my brother coined the nickname J9 when I was little to tell people how to spell my name right! Hence my first tattoo, J9 on my shoulder blade
