Thou shall have a fishie...

Don't feel bad about it Elle, I'm angry at you now.... but you might still send me one of your boa's to make up for it if you feel the need to do so ;)

New fishie!

I got a second fishie for the goldfish tank.

A Sarasa Comet named splish #2

I noticed some dorsal fin and scale damage which I am rather unhappy about! I can't take it back though... hes too lovely :p

Both splishies are doing well though, splish #1 is an eating machine and knows me as "the big thing that feeds"!

Aww I'm sure with some TLC that fin will grow back right away, that's nothing to bad, I've seen way worse grow back!

If I had saw this when I picked him out I wouldn't have got him... But yeah thats what you expect out of overcrowded petstore tanks huh ;)

Yep! Snakes aren't the only thing that's addictive! I have 3.2 bettas. Hermit crabs are also addictive! I have 2 purple pinchers, 6 ecuadorians, and 3 strawberries. My oldest hermie, Kenobi, is almost three. My oldest betta, Pez, will be two in July.

Here's my boys

I've been having a horrible string of accidents. Since the end of febuary I've lost almost one betta each week :( I have thus far been completely unable to figure out what exactly is going on with them. So now I only have 3 of my boys left X(
I love my six hermit crabs, I should probally get another strawberry, 5 purple claws and 1 strawberry. I've had 1 of them for at least 3+ years now, but of course who knows how old they were when I got them.

The thing I hate about hermit crabs is they are ALL WC... Plus they remind me too much of spiders and I get freaked out when they crawl about on my hand :( Id like to see some pictures of yours though!

Hope you sort out the betta probelm... maybe its old age?

Nice fish Susan! Is that an Arowana? I've heard they can get up to 9' long!

Looks like a silver arowana to me... average length of 3-4 feet. Still a very large growing fish. There're many varieties of aros... the one you are thinking of is tha arapaima which easily grows to 8 or 9 feet.

Arapaima in a zoo exhibit.

Red-tailed Gold Arowana

The RTG arowana is one of several gorgeous asian varieties that stay small enough to be manageable in tanks... but unfortunately the USFWS prohibits importing them, even captive bred specifmens, because they are listed on CITES. :bang:

I also don't like that they are wc. It would be nice if they could be bred in captivity but it dosen't seem possible. :( Here's a picture or two.

NICE bettas! lets see the girls!

Here you go! I just snapped about 30 pictures trying to get one that wasn't fuzzy  . This is the best I got! lol They look a lot alike. The other girl's a little more blue.

Tsk tsk Elle... new fishies should be quarantined before putting them in with your existing stock. *shakes head in disappointment* :grin01: :sidestep:

Oh, and I LOVE hermit crabs! I've actually been mulling over the idea of getting some. The WC is a shame, though.

Old thread, I know... But I too have a beta obsession, and loved this thread! So I thought I'd add mine. I've been able to keep it down to one beta at a time, which is amazing for me, since I'm definitely an impulse-pet-buyer. If I can take care of it, and take care of it RIGHT, I will eventually own one, haha.

Here's Sushi Fish... :)

beta2tp2.jpg

He's a 1gallon tank, with a window rock and some plants that he loves to hide in. He's a pig when it comes to eating. I've only had him for about a month. I do a 2 week cleaning, and a 1 month full water change. My beta's have always lasted over 2-3 years, and who knows how old they are when I get 'em, so I'd say they last a good while with me. I always pamper my animals.

I've also had hermit crabs in my days. I fell in love with them years ago, and had 20 at one point. They're very sensitive animals though. They stress a lot, and their molts can go very wrong for any reason, which always made me sad. And they are wild caught, which is sad, but it's almost impossible to create their natural breeding enviroment. People have tried with little success. I'll try to post some of my hermits when I get onto my desktop.
