Unexplained Experiences... and LOLghosts

who even came up with the theory of ghosts or beings from the otherside and all that kind of thing like who was it that started saying the word "ghost" i know i dont make much sense but ive always wondered that how did all this kind of stuff start

I don't believe in ghosts.

But I can't explain what happened one night when I was 15.

Okay, so to set the scene. My bed at the time was up against a sliding glass door that went out onto our porch. I had a small aviary of ten or twelve parakeets outside.

One night I work up, hearing my birds screeching and flapping around. I looked outside and I saw this... animal.

How to describe? It was pure black and was smaller than a fox. Like a small cat. It had the tail of a cat as well. It's head was... cone shaped. Do you remember those spy vs spy comics on Mad Magazine? It had that shape of head. It moved gracefully, and as I watched it leapt up to the porch railing and onto the top of the aviary which were two 5 foot hops.

I don't remember feeling frightened. Only kinda like, "WTF?". So I started tapping the glass of the sliding glass door to get its attention.

It kinda cocked its little head and came over, compleatly fearless. It came so close, we were less than a foot apart, separated by glass.

It had no eyes.

I swear to you. It didn't have any eyes.

It also didn't have any ears.

Soon enough it got board and wondered off, and I just watched it go.

I've lived in the Sierra Nevada's all my life, and I've seen foxes, skunks, mountain lions, possums... I still to this day don't know what it was. So no, I don't believe in ghosts. But I do believe there are freaky animals out there.

Do you have Epilepsy, Or any sleeping disorders? :)

I was at my dad's work one day. I was sitting at his desk looking through the CCTV, which is pointed at the roll-up door into the work garage. I saw a young kid (~10 y/o) walk through the door. There was no one else around so I went into the garage and saw no one. I looked around for a solid 5 minutes and didn't see anyone. I found out later that the junk car my dad just got for parts that was sitting in the garage was involved in an accident where a little boy was killed. The boy was 11 years old. I still can't explain that to this day. Personally, I do believe in ghosts, but I only have one experience of my own, who knows? Maybe I was drunk or something. haha.

I've never had the guts to do a Ouija Board, I would love to do one though...
I do believe in ghosts but Ouija boards..I think I have some sort of explanation, if you're doing a Ouija board you are waiting for/expecting something abnormal to happen, so something that may happen everyday that you don't really take any notice of.. like odd behaviour from pets, may occur during the board, then you will be led to believe it is something to do with the board.

Hope that makes sense

Cheers,
Connor.

I think ghosts came about because people sometime see things they cannot explain. That and the idea of a loved one lingering is comforting to *some* people. Also, people look for things to be scared by for the thrill of it.

Personally, that ghost experience I had was not scary though, and had no creepy explanation. It was simply puzzling at the time.

I guess something like that has to happen to one of us scientific folks for it to have an impact on us.

Ok, that is creepy and sad...

Yeah...
The cone headed cat story... It MIGHT have been a cat with a deformity (?) But how would it survive?? That's really puzzling and I would have just looked at it and not come close to it! You would have heard me scream from miles away, though. For me, it's kind of weird how I am afraid of a fly, yet, I am so fascinated with ghosts, and other "weird" stuff.

I did some serious time with Ouija boards as a teen. Despite being a skeptic even then, I experienced things that I couldn't explain at the time, e.g., flaring candles, dogs becoming uneasy and anxious, ease of "communication" throught the board. There are about a thousand reasons that a candle might flare up. All I have to do is stare intently at something for my dog to get uneasy.

The thing with animals becoming uneasy when a Ouija board is in use - that may be down to us. Animals seem to know when we feel uneasy, and I think most of us would feel apprehensive at the very least using a Ouija board. Maybe our dogs and cats just pick up on that.

I know for sure the same is true in reverse - I can't STAND it when my cats stare eerily at a point across the room. It really freaks me out.

Yeah, I've heard that. But an animal becoming uneasy does not signify that there's a spook on the loose. I was just offering a rational explanation as to why they may do it when humans are mucking about with Ouija boards. :)

I believe in the supernatural.
I have had a few very minor things happen.
Family members who I know are sane and logical people have had some major things happen.

SnakesRule, you're presenting a lot of information like it's fact, i.e. "Animals are more sensitive to the paranormal", when it's not. That's a popular belief held by those who believe in the paranormal, not a well-documented fact. It's been documented that animals have strange reactions to certain things, but not they sense the paranormal. Since you can't prove the paranormal, you can't prove what the animals are reacting to.

Also, I've watched TAPS show... And out of the many episodes I've seen, only 1 was "disproven". That's an awful lot of "haunted houses" out there. Their buisness relies on people believing in hauntings so that they can be called in to investigate further hauntings. Also, many of the "scientific tools" they use have been proven to be unreliable. Penn and Teller put on a great episode about ghosts and ghost hunters.

That said, I'm not dissing on TAPS show. I actually enjoy it, most of the time. I just don't think it's real or scientific.

Personally... I don't believe in the supernatural. The vast majority of things once thought to be supernatural by humans have been proven to have natural causes. As much as I enjoy reading about supernatural occurences, to me, they're either just stories or a lack of understanding. And much like the weather was once thought to be supernatural by primitive humans, I have the sneaking suspicion we're going to realize that a lot of the "supernatural" we see now is really quite natural. ;)

But ghost stories are always some of my favorite things to hear, none the less.

Feel free to share what happened, if you want. I know some people that will not tell what happened to them, I never knew why. Because it was so shocking? Dunno...

ok..this sounds pretty stupid...but one time when I was seven, I came out from my room at like 2 in the morning to get a drink, and I saw this freaky owl-like thing!! IT was freaky!!! And the house that I live in now, the lady that lived here befor died in it, and sometimes I hear wierd noises in my room! lol but sometimes it is jsut the washing machine downstaris!! lol :)

I never said it was fact, if it sounds like I'm presenting it like that then too bad! I believe what I believe, and I KNOW it's true unless I'm proven wrong. So far, no one has convinced me otherwise. Thank you very much...

lol well question how do you know its true if it hasn't you can't KNOW something with absolutely nothing to back it up thats like saying pigs can fly i know it sounds ridiculous but its a possibility not like they've proved pigs can't fly....

and for the pointy cat head that very likely could of been a very realistic dream especially because if you were in bed or possibly your sleepy eyes playing tricks on you
