wanting to start over

Interesting thesis - I didn't read it that way personally, but I haven't been on here long enough to have a historical perspective.

Oh yeah, there have been splashes of threads where an OP drops a heavy statement about cohabbing, live feeding, releasing into the wild, or one of the other "trigger" topics. They drop the post, log off, and most often never post again. Or they may sprinkle one or two more posts to seed the topic, then abandon it.

The ensuing discussion goes on for days, and days with pages upon pages of arguments and posturing with little contribution from the OP.

This one reads like that to me. The OP wants to trade a old snake for a baby with no real reason given. Never logs back in, and has not even seen a single post in the thread. All the replies were made after he logged out.

Even if he was upset over what was posted, there would probably still be log in activity after the initial post.

My jury is still out, but I am very suspect of the intent of this thread. It my be a coincidence, but only the OP can answer that.

I still don't see the problem with the original post. He had a snake he wanted to trade or sell. He wanted a baby. Sounded like a change in 'project' to me. How many breeders have projects? How many times do you see a snake or line of snakes offered for sale or trade because they are not in line with the current or future project? Sounded like he had the snake for years and it was well taken care of. As far as not logging on again. Maybe something happened that prompted that OP.

No it does not.

There is no project indicated. He has one snake, that's not a project. No breeding group, nothing. Even his profile says:

i only have one corn but its the best one ever i can answer some questions but also will need some as well

Don't reach, just read the post and take it at face value.

Anyone could start adding assumed back story to the post, but that info is simply not there, nor does the post support it.

I am all for giving someone the benefit of the doubt, but you have to go with the facts given, not assumptions, until more story is laid out.

Cole posted this thread, then logged off at 3:07, almost an hour before any responses were made at all.

He has not seen a single word that has been written.

I wonder if this was a trolling attempt? Post something you know people are going to get hot about, then log off and let them fight amongst themselves. It certainly resembles tolling attempts that have been posted on this site before.

That being said, yes, some people totally went over the top.

Freaking think before you type! Come on guys really, you are better than this. Beating someone about the head and face before you hear the entire story is pointless.

I get that people are passionate, I'm one of the most outspoken and passionate people around, so I understand that. However, have some COMPASSION before you dive down someone's throat or berate them.

Get more the story and if it still seems like shady business is going on, then by all mean jump their crap and call them out for it.

Jesus wept, it makes us all look like crazy jerks.

Think BEFORE you type. How would you feel if someone misinterpreted something you said, then raked you over the coals about it, before you could explain what you meant? You would feel like utter crap.

If someone is legitimately doing something wrong, unethical, or stupid, wait till the facts are on the table, then go off on an epic triad. Those are my favorite kind. :D Just give people a chance before you put them in front of the firing squad.

I completely agree! And I am glad I am not the only one who thought this post may have been a trolling.

At least we've all calmed down. If anyone still feels scorched with temper, i will happily hose you with cold water. :nyah: :realhot:
All these pages and pages of hot temper and argument could be an attempted troll spam. Its such a shame some people dont use this site properly.
BUT... What if he wasnt able to go back to his thread, or he has re thought his desision, but isnt able to tell us right now?
There are many reasons for an OPs absence, but if it isnt a troll he should return soon, yet it seems doubtful.
I would be ashamed of myself if i did something such as a troll prank, and cowardly for exiting the site forever in case of being caught.
Yes, we DO need to watch what we write, now especially since this thread is in suspicion of a troll spam. We need to keep our eyes ALIVE (as in reading things properly and writing with more care).
I doubt this thread would have gotten this many posts if the OP would have pharsed the thread in a better way, but if it was intentionsy wrote like this, id be wary.

Staying on topic, the OP should either include more information since its important to know why you want a trade. Trading for no reason at all, is a bad idea, in most cases.

Im not being mean or biased in any way, im just being honest.

I have an adult corn snake, he is probably 5 ft. I have no problem caring for him but I was wanting to trade for a young corn snake.Does anyone know where I can make that trade?

Hi Cole, welcome to the cornsnake.com forums.
You might look for a local petshop , one which is not a big chain-store with lots of locations, but instead a small one-location store, take a look at what they have for sale, but also look at cleanliness and examine any possible trades you would want closely, to make sure they are well started young snakes. Make sure you can see the individual you are interested in off-line, or trade with someone you know to be reputable. Maybe even take another day or two to make sure the snake you are trading for is the one you really want.

You could ask on Craigslist if there are any corn snake breeders in your area who might be interested in trading snakes. You could then hopefully receive a lot of responses and take a look at what is available and decide for yourself if any of the offers feel right. Be sure to take a picture of your snake for the ad. A good picture, showing your pet so he looks the right colors on the screen. You might have to take him outside in good lighting to take a good picture.

I used Google to look for "Ohio reptile expo" show dates in your area, there seem to be some. You might consider going to an expo, without your snake, because generally persons who are not selling at a show are not allowed to bring their pets into the location of the expo, and you wouldn't want to leave your pet cooking in the car while asking around inside the expo. But you could go to an expo/show/sale -and ask around.

I don't know if there are any Herp Clubs or Reptile Clubs in your area, there are many across Planet Earth. There may be persons there who would be willing to help you reach your goal.

Hope this helps. Perhaps others may be able to constructively positively add to this.
All the best,
dp

Dump that one too?
Michelle I like you, but following whatever the heck that was in post #2's lead, really?

If it's the best ever why do you want to trade it in for some baby that you might not even like in the end? I'm not trying to be rude, I just don't want you to regret what you have done.

This is true, I have many regrets for trading some of the snakes I have had for money.

It sounds like you are only interested in keeping young corns, reality check all young/baby corns grow up to be adults. It is wrong to just dump an adult just to get a baby. I would recommend what AliCat37 suggested, but I'm afraid you dump it once it reaches adulthood. Maybe you should take a step back and ask yourself why you really want corn snakes.

Because if the reason is you just want to raise cute, adorable, baby corn snakes - that's the wrong reason IMHO

Cole never said "dump it".

Is it an issue with the size? There are smaller kinds of pet snakes if that's the problem. If it's his age, maybe a reptile isn't the best pet because they live a long time. If it's an issue of wanting to raise a baby, then I really don't have any advice. :(

this was nice, and honest.

Have to agree with everything said here. And if I saw this post after an inquiry about purchasing a baby, I would decline the sale.

I would request to see pictures of the individual available, and possibly make the trade, if the individual avaliable was close by and had the visual traits I was looking for, if more verifiable information about the background genetics was available. I also realize that not enough information was made present in the original inquiry, so perhaps taking it to private messaging may become necessary, and that I am nowhere near ohio, from where the OP (aka Cole) is from.

Why do you want to get rid of him? Is there something wrong with him? He's really pretty.

I would be wary of 'trading' anything unless you could meet the person face-to-face, but you could just sell him on faunaclassifieds and then separately purchase a new snake.

Is there something wrong with people who like babies and raising them?
Cole never said "rid of him".
-----------------------------------
and after that came
troll
troll
troll
troll
benefit of the doubt
troll
rid
discard
trash
trash
'trash
my jury still out, troll
and a big mess of other belittling trash.
and then folks couldnt figure out why Cole didn't respond after the wonderful greeting at the door in post #2, which was later self-justified by the person who made that post.
So let's lynch the new guy, because that's fun on this site.
Yeah, so there's 30 persons who make some regular posts on this site.
When I think back to how I was greeted on this site, and treated unkindly by the top 50 posters back then, and gave starsevol some Mohr snakes to make her like me, and now, I'l like all wtf.
I'm sorry there hasn't been a REAL TROLL on the site for awhile and ya'l needed to lynch a handy target.
Sorry for presenting FRESH THOUGHTS.
I know those are intimidating.
It's good to have new people.
I don't get this idea that new pwrsons on this site should be immediately put under the magnifying glass, proven out to be innocent but assumed guilty of being a troll, and all the other issues that arise when a new person makes their first post. I'm not perfect. So I suppose that makes me a troll too. This thread has exemplified many statements I've heard in public and on the phone. Why can't ya'll just be nice?
If I was Cole I wouldn't sign in again either.

Fine and dandy argument Dave, with the exception of what has been said numerous times and that you've failed to notice, apparently.

He logged out before the first response was made and never logged back in.

tara, I can bookmark a page and never log into that site again. And, so, you're saying its acceptable to terrorize a new-comer to online, after making their first post, reading into 2 sentences and 1 question more then there actually is?
when it suits your whimsey?
and that is good for who?
(and why)?
Thanks for the feedback, its only by learning from others that I might progress and become a better individual.

Did I say that? Or are you assuming. I think you're assuming.

My point was, he never saw any of this, which is why the troll information was brought up.

Don't put words in people's mouths if you don't want to look like a jerk yourself. Don't attack me when I never said any such thing.

yeah, it was the word "assume" somewhere on this thread. And the trainweck past post2. have to agree there. Now get out in that kitchn woman and whip me up sum kronsankes. I kinda real like yors.
