2009 Yahoo - Pro Football Pickem - Contest - Prizes

I agree that it's still shaky ground, but these first two weeks have a lot of importance for a few reasons. For the same reasons you say a few bad picks can ruin a week, a few good ones can help. And at this stage, I am at least happy to have a small cushion, regardless of whether it decides the final outcome or not.
Also, this was a very tough week for me to pick, so I feel good that I had a decent week. It may not mean a darn thing when all is said and done, but it gives me a lot of hope going into next week.
I too feel that the ties will eventually start separating, and even one pick will separate that. I try to be a strategic thinker though, and position my upsets and favorites in a way that won't hurt too much to lose, but will help a lot to win.
For example... Blueapple paste and Pwargcm were tied with me for 1st last week, and are still right there. My fortune coming with the Giants win to separate me and Blueapple, and Baltimore for Pwarg. This tells me that based on two weeks, I can choose predictable favorites, and keep my trumps in the back pocket hoping for some fortune, which I was lucky enough to have happen twice. It also tells me that, for now, records don't hold as much weight as consistency, and Blueapple and Pwarg have been very consistent, so my small cushion will need to hold up, otherwise they will jump ahead. Whereas, for now, others have had one great week, and one mediocre week, so based on these two weeks, I can expect a similar tide, hopefully in my favor, and I should focus on those who have remained near the top in both weeks instead.
Sure this will change, maybe drastically, but for now it's all I've got to go by, and I'll just adapt to changing ranks, and try to keep up a decent record. It's definitely a marathon, not a sprint, but every millisecond shaved counts in the long run.

I got a new ahole this week!!! I really lost out on my picks. What is the lowest someone has been and came out of the dumps? LMAO I am not looking to do that now. Atleast Football season is a little more fun with this. Congrats to all the ones picking correctly.

I'm with ya! I think we've got the same amount correct. It's only week 2 so I won't give up yet, we could make the lucky picks next week.

^^

Just wanted to be the one you knew would laugh. I actually agree... to an extent. Maybe not Dilfer, but a Garcia would bring a little more consistency, or at least would have a couple years ago.
LOL. The reason I put Dilfer there is because he HAS a Superbowl ring! LOL. TONY does not! Dilfer protected the ball QUITE well his Superbowl year. Garcia... well, he impressed me a little and was an afterthought in my post. :D

This is what I personally don't like about Dallas. They have no clear leadership on the team, their owner is too self-involved to detach himself as 'assistant coach', and their offense is all or nothing. Last week Tony Romo was every bit of Peyton Manning, and this week he's nothing short of Rex Grossman; he's jumpy, inconsistent, and turns the ball over way too much.
Ehhhh. I don't agree with the comment about Jerry Jones. I think he's one of the reasons the NFL is so strong. HE invested MILLIONS of his OWN money is that very nice stadium. He CLEARLY is the most visible owner outside of Al Davis, but that doesn't make him "bad". I think it means something. Even Michael Irvin and Emmitt Smith said that having Jerry INVOLVED was a good thing for their team.

If the Cowboys were smart they'd play a Carolina-style offense where they'd share the ball alot between running backs, and mostly go for the home-runs in the pass game. Barber and Jones can clearly play into those roles, and it would make them less dependent on Tony Romo to win. Clearly their defense needs some work too, but Ratliff was great, and their linebackers are tops in the league...Final verdict; fire Phillips, fix Romo, start Felix, and run the football all the time. That stadium is too expensive to serve losses with every 12$ cheeseburger.
I agree with you on this part. Why is Romo throwing the ball down the field when their running game CLEARLY is practically unstoppable? Short passing, run Barber, run Choice, followed by a HEAVY dose of Felix Jones... Good to go.

I understand the Dilfer comment, I was just ragging on you. Where I disagree with that though, is that the Cowboys need a little more from the QB than a Dilfer. Their defense is too inconsistent, and a 27 point game should be enough for a Super Bowl contending team to win.

If I was a Cowboys fan, I would be extremely happy with the run game. Seriously Felix Jones is looking like a superstar, and to add Barber almost doesn't even seem fair. They just need to take some power away from Romo, keep that run game going, tighten up their D, and they can make some noise this season.

GRRRRRRR!!!! From 4th place to 9th place in one week! GRRRRRRR!

LOL!

Anyway, given the way things went this last Sunday, how much you wanna bet the Colts FLUB up tonight???? LOL.

Ehh... I wouldn't take that bet myself... unless I were Robbie! :) :poke:

I like his involvement with the team from a loyalty perspective, but he's not the right person to be making personnel decisions. He goes for the glitz every time and there's a reason his teams don't hold up late in the season. He hasn't won a playoff game in 13+ years, and he has a very difficult time putting the right coach in place due to his own desire to control the team. Wade Phillips is not it, and they don't have a team that can win a Super Bowl in the foreseeable future, because of his grip on the Cowboys.

As for my personal favorite owner, that would have to be Dan Rooney. He supports his teams to the fullest, and he never has an ego when it comes to personnel. Mike Tomlin is a top 2 coach in the league, and every draft year they come away with steals. It's a franchise set for success, and he's the driving force behind it. Everything people think Jerry Jones is, but without the spotlight.

I don't have a problem with down the field passes, as long as that's not the majority. If they established the run-game early and often they could take advantage of the defenses and use their receivers for big plays. Your absolutely right with the short game, though. They have the TE's and RB's to play short and if they run effectively it will help sell the pass. The way it is now, Tony Romo is option #1 and they live and die with his decisions. Take that away from him, designate a strict role, and just play tough football. Whether they have the ability to change, who knows, but the sooner the better; Giants are already pulling away with the division...

Yeah... but Miami is looking good too... GREAT! (said with MUCH sarcasm).... Just what I need. Another LOSS....
I doubt a loss will change the ranks in any way, because I believe everybody picked Indianapolis to win, so the loss is only aesthetically unappealing.

Not to mention... They'll win :)!

HOW they won is amazing. They didn't even have the ball for 15 minutes out of 60!!! Other teams better watch out for Miami -- including the Colts -- even though Miami is 0-2 right now.

Good game!
