2009 Yahoo - Pro Football Pickem - Contest - Prizes

Well, Heather... just as with the Cowboys when they lose games like this (which is rather FREQUENT of late), it looks like there are going to be LOTS of questions regarding the Vikings and how "legit" they are and "if they're really that good" or "if they're a contender or pretender".

I am so surprised that they lost to the Panthers... I thought that the Panthers play right into Minn's strength. Oh, well. I hope they do better next time. Their next two games are agains the Bears and the Giants... they need and I need them to win both!!!

You're absolutely right Fred. I feel like the Panthers should have played right into the Vikes Strengths, seeing they are (typically) so good against the run. But I still think that the Vikes are legit, and this loss really doesn't make me think any less of them. The Panthers are a great team, regardless of their record. Just as the Titans seemed to be a shell of last years team, the Panthers have seemed the same. But having a fresh QB such as Matt Moore, or Vince Young, can really change the focus of a team. Steve Smith is still a top WR, and he came up BIG tonight. And Julius Peppers... well, he's certainly one of the most talented, physical defensive lineman in the league, and he played HUGE tonight. So well that the Vikings had benched star offensive lineman Bryant Mckinnie due to the pressure Peppers was getting.
Just like the Vikes came back to dominate the Bengals after their loss against the Cards, I feel they'll come back even stronger next week. They'll be playing a pass defense that made Joe Cool look like Peyton next week, and follow it up by playing another weak secondary in the Giants. Just enough momentum to carry into the playoffs with a smooth transition, and they'll be one heck of a team to try and beat once they're in.
Sure I'm a little surprised by the loss, but definitely not worried.

As for the Ravens... YAY. They SMOKED the Bears today, and with a little help from the Colts, Titans, Raiders, and Falcons, they have gained a much needed leap into the wild card spot. I pretty much ruled them out after they lost to Green Bay on MNF, but if they can win out (which I believe they will), and then I think the wild card spot is theirs.

I have one question. What in the world were the Redskins thinking with that play?! What a weird play. I've never seen anything like that before. LOL

That was the, "we can't keep you from hitting our QB, so here's a free shot at the holder" play... just a guess though...

I had to go search for this thread on the 4th page, just to say yay San Diego.

P.S...nice picks you got there Joe ;)

I'm lookin' over your shoulder....
I think your picks are excellent, and hope they all win for you ;)

Sorry, Rich!! Wow. It looks like you, Michael and Danny (again) forgot to make your picks...

That's why I did them ALL after week 10... At least something would be recorded.

Yeah, I kept mine a few weeks out just in case... Usually all the favorites, which I'd change later.... to the ones that would lose...

Oh No! I forgot to make my picks this week! :crying:
Me too :(!!! I should have made picks early, at least to just have something. I usually do that, but I've been so sidetracked this week. I knew the game was on last night too, but I came home sick as a dog from my family Christmas dinner (terrible migraine).

I think that is what made me forget also.

My blood pressure has been super high. So high that the doctor took me off work for the week. I knew that game was on last night as well. I just laid around waiting for the game to start.

Oh well. I had no chance to win, but at least wanted to finish strong.

Man, Michael... I was hoping that Pittsburgh would fall to your Ravens... but they NEVER deliver when I want them to. LOL.

Pittsburgh is STILL alive for playoffs... YUCK!

Wow all I can say Is Saints are well dont know what the heck they are play hard first then just sit on their butts geez. I mean wtf lol. I see a team falling apart. let a 2-12 team come back on you wow

I've had the same problem all season myself. Baltimore games are the worst to pick, because they seem to always inexplicably find a way to beat themselves in 'must-win' games. That's how they fell to Green Bay, and now it's how they fall to Pittsburgh..

Tough loss, because now they will be forced to submit themselves into the wild-card lottery (basically) along with the Steelers who now look fit to take that 6th spot from them...Not looking good Baltimore :(..But hey; at least I picked Pittsburgh :) :( !

Totally agree. So far they've been very lucky to escape with wins from some pretty weak teams, and now we're starting to see that luck wear out. Not favorable to have this kind of momentum headed into the playoffs, but hopefully for them they use it as motivation to get better...The only bad thing is that the teams they face in the playoffs will now have some great material to go by when game-planning against them..
