2009 Yahoo - Pro Football Pickem - Contest - Prizes

Just got home from the wedding, was checking scores during the reception. Listened to the last 6 minutes of play on the way home in the car, can't believe the Cowboys won!!!

I would have lost it if they blew a 24-3 4th quarter lead!! Can't believe Folk missed a 24 yarder, I could have made it! Oh well, defense managed to be clutch on that last drive. Their season is still very much alive, and if they win out, they win the division! Their destiny is once again in their hands.

Go Cowboys!!!!!!!

Uhhhh... with all due respect, Chad... Brees (and I LOVE him), has the possibility of eventually being in league with P. Manning. But not yet. Maybe in a few years, yes, but not yet.
Uhhhh... with all due respect, Fred... Brees will NEVER be on the level of Manning. Sorry, but Brees is overrated. Maybe I'm just coming across as a hater, but I feel like Brees is the most overrated player in the league. I think Brees is a great QB, but I haven't been impressed with him like I have watching some of the other QB's. On the same token, the Saints offense as a whole is way underrated. Colston is such a beast, and Henderson can run some of the best routes in the league. Lance Moore has his moments of disappointment, but he's an invaluable weapon. Brees seems to demand Big Ben type time in the pocket, but the line disguises it much better, so people aren't as quick to criticize.

Manning, on the other hand... He's the prototype of excellence. He's by far the most football intelligent player in the league, and he'll be one of the leagues best coaches some day because of that. Add to that, his precision accuracy, tall frame, and ability to make Joe Shmoe look like Jerry Rice, he's by far the best, in my opinion ;)!

I didn't watch the game, except the last few minutes... Did NO rest a lot of their starters? I know Indy said they got their guaranteed playoff spot and would start resting their injured and worn players starting next week...

No they didnt Capt I look for them to do so with a bye week plenty time to rest NO needs do get defense healty again

I agree with EVERYTHING you said about P. Manning (not that he'd ever be confused with E. Manning - LOL!). Prototype, intelligent, Field General, EVERYTHING one would want in a QB.

However, I will not close the door on Brees... as I wouldn't on anyone... (well, okay, I'll close that door on Trent Dilfer or Jamarcus Russell - :roflmao:). He still has time to prove himself and walk through that door, but you're right... he'll NEVER be what Peyton IS.

Personally i would like to see my two favorite pro teams go to the Superbowl... Saints, and Vikings.
please note that i would much rather watch college ball than pro. but i still follow both of these teams, mostly through my family.

Heck who says he has to be like manning. It could be that he gets better. Everyone has a different style of play.

I hear ya... that would indeed be an interesting game... but they are both in the NFC, so it wouldn't/couldn't happen. LOL. Perhaps the NFC Championship between them would be your superbowl. :D

I don't know. Manning has taken his level of play to a new level IMO. However, Brees is a fine QB. He is plenty good enough to take a team to the superbowl and become the bedrock of an offense for many years to come.

Comparing Brees to Manning is sort of like screaming about whether BMW or Mercedes is better. At the end of the day, I'd take either one.

You're absolutely right Chad. It's not about comparing the two, as they are almost entirely different in style of play and physique. I don't mean to say that it's Manning or bust, and I certainly think Brees is an extraordinary QB. He is the epitome of how productive a small QB can be, and he's like the Allen Iverson of the NFL (size/talent wise).
I just feel like Brees has been given a title that he has yet to deserve, and that is that he is considered to be on another level, as though it's Manning, then Brees, then the field, when I feel hard pressed to separate him from quite a few others (Rivers, Rodgers, Brady, and Favre to name a few).

I also feel like the team's most import game will be week 17 against the Panthers. The Vikings have been very close to catching up to the Saints all season, and with the Vikes having a loss against an AFC team, and the Saints playing out the season against conference/division rivals, they're looking like they'll need to finish out (given the Vikes win their games too). And with the Saints being unproven post season wise, I feel like that home field lockup will be of utmost importance, as well as just having a win to close out the reg. season.

G..

I HATE Roethlisberger... GB... WTH????

Superbowl deja vu all over again... GRRRRRR!!!!!

Funny thing... I was standing in the same place... then decided to sit down so as not to jynx it... And he throws the TD anyway.

Hoping for a blocked extra point....

I had a feeling this would happen. I'm not sure why, but I just felt a comeback drive. And Mike Wallace is really an amazing rookie... AMAZING!!!

I got to say, despite picking GB to win (not that it matters anyway, I have no chance of winning), I am glad Pittsburgh won. No, I am not a fan of Pittsburgh....but I am even less a fan of GB. So good day I suppose...as long as the Vikings win.

errrrr, yep. Crappy ending to my awful day of bad picks.

*covers my arms over my Vikings shirt in shame.

Well, Heather... just as with the Cowboys when they lose games like this (which is rather FREQUENT of late), it looks like there are going to be LOTS of questions regarding the Vikings and how "legit" they are and "if they're really that good" or "if they're a contender or pretender".

I am so surprised that they lost to the Panthers... I thought that the Panthers play right into Minn's strength. Oh, well. I hope they do better next time. Their next two games are agains the Bears and the Giants... they need and I need them to win both!!!
