Breaking news for the reptile shipper!!

I'm not a breeder who would use their service, but I am a potential customer and would probably purchase from a breeder who could save me 15 - 20 bucks on shipping, if indeed that savings were to go my way. I can see some breeders possibly using this service, and quoting their customers the fedex price while pocketing the savings they got from repster.

In this day, any savings is a great plus. Shoot 20 bucks could give me 5 gallons more gas then I could have gotten if I had to pay the full fedex charges.

I have shipped through Repster and have spoken with David on the phone and have been very satisfied. He also told me about UPS probably coming on line and I think that would be wonderful.

Right now, UPS ships reptiles...just not snakes. They had a booth at Daytona and Ken Kroog, Marketing Manager (Southeast Region) gave me his card and said they are on the verge of approving the shipment of snakes and he asked me to email him at [email protected] expressing my interest to use UPS.

I'm certified to use FexEx or I can go the route of Repster. UPS adding a little competition to the mix could very possibly lower prices for us or at least help keep them in check.

I completely understand the people that don't want to use repster, would rather use their own account and hence need to charge a little more to ship.
But please, if you ARE using repster pass those savings along to your customer. Don't charge them more for the shipping than the actual cost from repster to you and pocket the difference. The whole point of this the way I see it is to save money for our customers.

I continue to hope that Mr. Young will do something to turn things around, apologize to the members on fauna and make good on whatever money he owed the show promoter. This has to be costing him a LOT more than $750. His stunt has not only cost him a lot of his own members but is hurting the small reptile shipper that was counting on repster to be able to save a little money for their customers. I really think it sucks all around. I was planning to continue to offer the repster shipping because I have saved $15 to $20 for my customers each and every time I use the shipping service. And also offer the option of using my own fed ex account for a little more, to those who felt strongly against repster. However I simply cannot afford to be ostracized by association for merely using repster. It makes me very sad if I have to start charging more to ship just because people want to associate my desire to save them a little money with any support for his actions which I think were extremely foolish.. If he cares about the small businesses that gave him a chance, he needs to swallow his pride and respond to this.

I have followed that thread on Fauna and I don't ship snakes, but I do purchase. I am willing to pay more for shipping because I felt his post on the BOI was extremely unprofessional and horrible customer service. I work in the customer service field, and I only deal with people with excellent customer service.

I do not condone the situation by any means. But personally I feel as though the whole thing has gotten out of hand. Is this one thing, that know one knows the 100% truth about, enough to shut down an entire business that has been doing a good service for all. What about all of the good praises it has gotten? Do we completely ignore those now? From what I see, one bad deed makes a person/business bad? I agree that David should/needs to respond to the allegations and he needs to pay any money owed. If he responded maybe we could all see that some thing else was wrong. Maybe there were other things said in phone conversations that was misconstrued. No one will ever know for sure unless the conversations were recorded.

I respect the BOI in knowing that it helps alert people of devious or non trustworthy sellers/buyers. But I have also seen it ruin good people that have made bad decisions. It amazes me at how quickly some will jump in to beat some one down. Even if they had good experiences with that person. They become afraid of being caste out for speaking out and going against the masses. I find that very sad and scary at the same time.

I am really saddened and surprised by the whole thing. I really expected more professional conduct by somebody who SEEMED to be a really able businessman.

Unfortunately, he did respond. You can check it out on the BOI. It was his response that is causing all of the fallout, much more than the original "he said - she said" deal. Anyone can have a problem customer or misunderstanding now and then - I certainly have, just like anyone else. It is how you handle the problems that show your true character, IMHO. Even if he was 100% correct, and the original poster 100% wrong (and that does NOT seem to be the case, according to the only evidence posted), it was dealt with extremely poorly. His post was not the appropriate, professional way to handle it, in the opinion of most who have read it. And there has been no retraction or apology, so it seems that it stands as is.

I was a really big supporter, so I am as sad about it as anyone could be (except those who are directly tied to, or benefiting from the business, of course).

Also if you fully read the BOI thread, there were two other complaints against David Young and one additional mention of a problem with him (though it was third party information as the person involved did not come on and post).

As Kathy had said it was his response that made me choose not to deal with anyone who only uses repster as a means of shipping. I've not yet purchased anything online, but rest assured when the time comes I'll be sure to question how they will be shipping my snake to me.

Thats messed up coming from the sellers side... Its not the person doing the selling that people have a problem with, its the shipper themselves that have had a bit of an issue.. Its like me saying I am not going to sell to you because you deal with XXX Company.. How many people are not going to know about the BOI posts? But what ever, thats your perogative.. It might be better instead of just axing sellers, ask them if they have any means to send the animal straight FedEx and not Repster as per your request.. ????

I had my reservations about the whole thing in the beginning.. I never dealt with the man.. People should really be certified by FedEx to ship any ways..

David just called me and talked to me for quite a while, and I have changed my opinion after talking to him. I still think his post on the BOI was unprofessional, but that there were extenuating circumstances. If you want the details, you can read it on the BOI thread.

David now has a total of FOUR complaints listed on the BOI thread (one of them from the mystery show promoter mentioned earlier in the thread).

Kathy, I'm sorry to say, but it's apparent he used you to make a positive post for him...Being that you are well known in the herp community...I have no doubt him calling you had a particular motive.

I haven't (and don't have the time to) read through the entire thread. I read the first couple when it was first posted; basically he was supposed to sponsor a show but backed out? Can someone sum up what's transpired to cause everyone to turn on him?

So far I've used Reptster several times; and its been great. I can definitely see the savings and it's been less for the customers. Would be unfortunate to have such a ground breaking shipping method be ruined.

Gawd, when I come across threads here and there, I wonder why I stay in hobby.. Its getting to the point of where I don't want to deal with anyone and just wholesale everything off just to avoid people at all costs.. I think I am just getting tired of all the drama period and just for my own good, I might exhile myself from 99% of the community..

Anyways, just find another shipper your happy with.. I am quite sure everyone does not have 100% total satysfaction with everyone of their clients.. Often times people are far to polite to say anything..
