Katie,
I greatly appreciate the work you and Kathy are doing to help raise money for USARK. I'm sure Zoo Med will donate prizes for your efforts because Gary Bagnall sits on our board of directors. Not only that Zoo Med will match ALL the money you can raise. I hope that this letter will serve as confirmation of the fantastic work you are doing on behalf of USARK.

Thank you,
Andrew Wyatt

If you want to take it to your local pet shop, or to contact any reptile dealers / breeders for donations, this letter should help. The fact that Zoo Med will double our donation should make it more worthwhile for donors to consider it. They can contact US ARK at the telephone # if they want to check to make sure it is legitimate. I am going to try to get Bill to paste it into a nice looking document with the US ARK flyer or banner on it, to make it look more impressive for donation solicitation. But Bill is out of town for the weekend, so it won't be done immediately.

Just received an email back from LLL Reptile. Owner has advised me to stop at their booth Saturday morning and they will also donate a prize for our raffle.

If anyone is looking to split a room, I have one booked and I'm looking for a bunkie. :)

I just got permission to post our meeting over on KS...

on 4 different forums there. Hopefully, we will get both participants and donations from some members over there.

Already got an offer of a donation since posting on KS...

Somebody wants to donate a proven breeder male pastel ball python!

I think we should get the names and contact info of anyone who donates, and give them public thanks on whatever forums we post any info on, and also pass the donor info on to US ARK (unless the donor doesn't want his name posted).

Snakes need rides!

I have two offers of donations of snakes (from my KS posts) that need transportation to Daytona. Is anyone driving (or shipping snakes) to Daytona from either the Austin, Tx area, or from RI? I have also gotten some offers of donations from here in Florida, but transportation will not be a problem with those.

If nobody is driving through those areas and can transport them, but somebody wants to donate the shipping fees, that would be fine, too. One offer is an adult pastel BP, and the other offer is a couple of pairs of young adult corns and kings, so shipping will cost slightly more than a typical baby corn.

Strangely enough, my posts on the ball python forum on KS have sparked discussion, but nobody has posted anything on my corn snake thread over there.

Terri - you makin' it down too???

I wouldn't miss it for the world. After last year I am addicted. Working at Don Soderberg's table was like Christmas morning Ground Hog Day style!:dancer:
Please disregard Lori's rantings about me and physical contact. She's delusional at best.

Do you think...

that if we get one or more "big items" that are much more valuable than the others, that we should do an auction, or grand prize drawing, or something other than the general raffle?

I would like to think that is a good idea, but how much can we really expect people to buy/donate for raffles/auctions etc?

I think it depends on what is offered...

It MIGHT even be something that they were thinking of buying at the Expo, anyway! If they see it mentioned as a prize, maybe they will hold off buying until Sun, just in case they get it at our meeting.

What do you guys think of this for a prize? BIG 15x17 heavy duty ziplock bags, to store frozen mice in. (We use them at the hospital, but a guy I work with supplies them, and I bet he'd donate a bag of 100). (They'd fit 100 mice _easily_, folded over, and wouldn't rip or have mouse parts poke through like the bags you usually get).

I think it would be fun...

to have some items that are unusual, or a bit odd, but relevant. If we come up with a few really creative things (not even necessarily expensive), we might even get a few chuckles, but still provide something useful. Your idea isn't THAT odd, but might spur on some creative thinking, lol!

BTW, I did correspond with Chuck. I believe he is going to donate some ACR registrations, and maybe even some books. He didn't tell me his exact plans yet, but he is thinking about it now.

How far in advance of the show do you think we should have a total list of the prizes? Do we post it here in advance? Will that "upset" people who can't make it to the show?

I don't know about an auction per se...but maybe a special raffle for the "grand prize" where tickets cost more? Like $5 or something?

I had been looking online last week at some other snake related prizes...cute little keychains and stuff...thought they could be cute little door prizes or something. However, my finances are about shot right now (and if you see the post I just made I have another vet emergency today) so I don't think I am going to be able to afford to purchase any more prizes before the show.
I am donating a print of one of my photos, probably a pair of snakes, and I have purchased the raffle tickets, wristbands for dinner and the "buckets" (they are pirate chests!) for the raffles.

If anyone else wants to spend money on anything else that is completely up to them, but other than actual prize donations of stuff people are producing - or hitting up some of the non-animal vendors for prizes - I am not going to "ask" people to spend money on stuff....

We sell an assortment of kid's reptile toys that are very cute, but inexpensive. I could probably donate a few of them if we have a good use for them.
