Daytona 2009

We sell an assortment of kid's reptile toys that are very cute, but inexpensive. I could probably donate a few of them if we have a good use for them.

I know we will have at least a few kids there - varying ages I believe.
Susan's kids, Kathy (cathiasplace), Eddie (goldtop) and Vinny are a few I know of off the top of my head.

Maybe we could have a kid's raffle with tickets only 50 cents? I could bring several small items (maybe other people would, also), so that most or all of the kids could win something.

I could check with my wife to see if she's cool with raffling the kids off. I'll bring the chicken fried bacon...

I talked to Gino (Lost World Reptiles) last night...

and he said he would donate something nice - possibly a pair of adult kings, but he is not sure yet just what it will be. He will probably be able to attend the dinner and discussion, but will get back with us in a couple of weeks.

With all these donations...and more to come...do we want to re-visit the way we are going to do these?

It just seems like there are going to be a whole lot of buckets for individual prizes with some getting very few tickets if people don't have money to go around. :shrugs:

I have "buckets" with lids - so people will not know how many tickets are in any given bucket. I think that will help a bit. Plus - like was said from the beginning - each person may be interested in different prizes so that should spread it out a bit as well. And at $1 a ticket - I imagine most people will spend at least $5-$10, right?

And maybe we should just "cut off" at the prizes we have so far? Right now we have about 19 prizes (or at least people/companies donating). I have 24 buckets total.
I don't want to spend the entire night doing raffles either - would like to have time for our talks/discussions/roundtable and what not....

So, I'll run the raffle and have it done in 15 minutes. :D No waiting on anyone! If they don't claim it, it goes home with me! LOL (After you get your dibs, of course, Katie darling, and Kathy, for getting insane donations)

I don't think the raffles will take long. And if some buckets don't get any tickets, then- Door Prizes!!! No- don't cut off donations. I still have more stuff to get! Who's going to complain that there's too much stuff??

Nanci - dear - I was counting you already....

Here is a running list right now of donors:
Bayou Reptiles
Susan
Jeff
Kathy
Chris Olson
Tim (tim66/corns)
Me
Joe
Hallie
Danny
KJUN
Vinny
Nanci

If we go over 24 - I will have to get more "buckets".... I ordered them from Oriental Trading Company - they are little pirate chests with lids!!

I also secured a donation of 25 15x18 4ml heavy duty plastic bags (for storing frozen mice!) from my co-worker Ken, who owns the company X-Bags (which I couldn't find on the Internet) which supplies plastic bags for covering X-ray cassettes to protect them from body fluids and to provide a clean cover to protect the patients from germs. This is about a $20 value.

Somewhat different topic...

Since Dr. Bechtel was so important to our hobby / industry, and since he just passed away, it sure would be timely and relevant to "do something" to honor him at our meeting. Not sure what...maybe AT LEAST make a big card and have everyone sign it, to give to Bette. And I would like to say a few words sometime during the meeting. Not sure what else might be appropriate? Something other than a card? Any ideas?

Maybe a big piece of poster board we could all sign?

Maybe (and just shooting off the wall here) we could have a moment of silence too? To honor him and anyone else in our "field" that has been lost in the last year?
