Is this an Albino??

Repti bark can be very dusty, and I've heard some people say that it stained their snakes.

The problem with feeding your snake thing that you catch in the wild is you risk giving it parasites.

*edit*
There was a guy that posted a few months ago that used paper towels in his feeding tub. The poor snake accidentally ate the paper towel and died. :(

Yo, first of all, people on this forum are way to quick to judge others. Her post are clearly coming from a good heart and she is trying to learn how to properly care for an animal we all love. I'm really tired of members attacking newcomers when they are just trying to learn, there is no reason for it! And Mary-beth theres certainly no reason to be so rude about it, your defiantly not perfect, so who the f... are you to judge her. We can all disagree thats fine, but it's ridiculous to drop to such behavior.
Enough ranting....
As far as Aspen bedding, I use it and love it. I think alot of people here use it too. Its easy to clean and has almost no dust. I used to use reptile carpets, and I think my snakes all like the aspen better. They love to burrow in it.
It's always a goof idea to feed in a separate container to avoid impaction.

I have been trying to be helpful with all of my posts in this thread.
I think some people may have read them with a tone that I did not intend to use. Try reading them again.
I even tried to make a joke in my last post in an attempt to lighten things up a bit.

Albino Billy and I are trying to talk out our differences through pm's.

Thanks Catherine! I will get the aspen. Skeet, so what do you do to avoid the snake getting the aspen in it's mouth while feeding? I do have a big tupperware tub that I could put him in for feeding times. Like I said, all I have in there now for substrate is the newspaper. I want something that he can really bed in and feel more comfy. LOL!

I just put my snake in a large brown paper bag, work for them. But the Tupperware tub will work too.

Good luck

That would be fantastic, because I don't remember giving you the gavel ;)

Holly, you could watch the snake intently as he eats, tweezers bared, ready to attack any offending piece of substrate as it comes up... or you could just avoid the whole incident by not giving it the chance to happen :)

I didn't judge or attack, just said that there was no reason for it. You can apologize and back talk, but it was rude and unnecessary. True, my post was unnecessary too, but I'm not wrong that people are jumped on for no reason. I'm glad to hear you are working it out. I didn't read all the post, because I was annoyed by the posts, so I'm sorry if you really didn't mean to be attacking her, but it deffinatly seemed that way, and I know I'm not the only one who thought so.

Feeding in seperate tupperware containor with newspaper, or paper towel, or I use the old reptile carpets as a substrait just for feeding. My snakes have learned to associate the bin with being fed, so it's not until they are inside that they know they are gonna get fed. And they know right away when they are inside, they will strike at anything that enters the box.

I don't need a gavel to speak my mind, but thanks anyways. :-offtopic

Yes lets please just let this DROP. There are people on both sides of this that feel strongly. We're all just misunderstanding each other and it was snow balling.

I publicly apologize to you Holly. I wasn't trying to be rude and I'm sorry it came across that way.

Skeet. I wonder. How far did you read before Jumping to the total conclusion that Mary-Beth and Holly had some what were working on their differences. or What not.

Halfway through the fifth page, but then i skipped to the last page. Some of those post had alot to read. ADD? :shrugs:

As the wise and evil Grand Moff Tarkin once said: "This bickering is pointless."

But this is a discussion board. We don't all have to agree on everything to be able to hold a discussion. It would be pretty boring if we did. I disagreed with Mary-Beth and Taceas on a few points, and misunderstood them on a few others, but at no point did my extremely high level of respect (and fondness) for either of them waver. I would suggest that Holly ask any further questions in new threads, and let this one die. Only a suggestion. I don't hold a gavel either.

Now, would someone provide me with the location of the rebel fortress? :grin01:

:clears throat:

Well, I DO hold a gavel! :grin01: Not really, but I can pretend, right?

Really, the decision has been made---they are keeping the snake. Let it go. The snake is now in a better place than it was (parking lot). The new owners have said they have been actively looking and calling the local animal shelters, and even left their numbers.

IMO, that is above and beyond what you need to do. I know Susan referenced something in regards to the Stephen Roylance situation, but imo that's totally different. If I lived near Stephen I think I could have been out in the middle of the hurricane trying to round up all of the loose snakes.

The thread does need to die. Nothing anybody else says will change anybods opinion on the matter.

hmmm

I decided not to read every word of every post
But I would like to say a couple of things.
Dean, I have had a few escapees over the years. A couple I have found again a few are gone forever.
I am not a bad keeper or irresponsible keeper, I made a couple of mistakes and had a few faulty lids.
But anyway $#!!? happens.
It doesn't mean I don't deserve my snakes back if I happen to find them.
But at the same time, I would not expect someone who may have gotten lucky and found one my snakes to look for me, the owner.
So, to Albino Billy...you are making a good home for the snake. keep it don't worry about who lost it.
You sure wouldn't want to post any kind of "found snake" message on a public bulletin board in your complex.
People really freak out when it comes to snakes.
Before you know it, you could have people wanting to throw you out of the condos for having that snake, whether you found it or not.
keep it, give it a good home and enjoy it.

I must have been typing this when you made your post Joe
Oh well

Purple Monkey dishwasher :sidestep:

Heh... sorry, had to be done. :grin01: But Joe is correct. Just let this thread go to the happy hunting grounds of dead threads.

However, one last note that may help you Holly - this forum has a fantastic search option, and since this forum has been around for years, browsing through pages and pages of posts will certainly help you with anything else you may need, as well as asking outright :) Thats why we're here!

To actually be on topic, most people here use aspen I think. I've tried a lot of the other acceptable options and like aspen (or just paper towels) the best.
Mice are good, why did he suggest not using them and instead using rats? Rats are only slightly more nutritious.
Wild caught food items, like frogs and lizards, can contain parasites, and such, that can make your snake sick (or kill him even).

Thanks Kimberly! I will have to go to a big pet store and check out all their heaters...
While you are there you could post a found flyer. I am not sure if anyone mentioned this but pet stores would be a good place to ask/post a flyer. The owner had to be getting his food some where if he wasn't raising them himself. Just a thought sorry if I repeated something some one had already suggested.

Carol

Carol, I thought about posting a sign at the big pet store here but that one has all the heaters and things but doesn't even carry the frozen mice. So, unless the owner was buying live mice, he didn't shop there regularly. They don't deal with snakes (the chickens, LOL) the only pet store in my county that carries the frozen mice is where I got all of my goodies. He hadn't gotten any notices or calls about a lost snake. I know some people use live rats or mice and just knock them out before putting them in the viv for the snake. I cannot bring myself to do that so, I get the frozen. I have read that a lot of you guys do. My brother had never done that. He did knock the rats out before putting them in though because he was super picky about his snakes. I think his suggestion of throwing the frog in there was more to pick on me than anything. He is 10 years older and he still thinks we are kids and I am his baby sister therefore, fair game. Hehehehe... He loves to pick. He KNOWS I would never put anything live in that viv because I watched him do it for so many years and it never stopped grossing me out. :puke01: I know they have to eat but I just can't be the one to actually do the killing.
Billy came out of his warm hide last night to check things out. This was his first night out since he ate Wed. He did do a poop and this morning I collected it and put it in a zip lock and put it in the freezer so I can take it to a Vet Monday to have it checked out. What would they be looking for anyway?? It looked like normal snake feces to me but I don't want to take chances just in case he was out on his own for a while. We took him out of his viv this morning and he was very active. He usually curls up on my son and stays there forever. This time he was all over him. He played with him for a while and then we put him up. Is it normal for them to be SO active after they come out from their hide after digesting? I would guess so but I am trying to absorb all the info so I can to do this right.

Odd...

Check this out... Someone around here has to have dumped these exotic pets. This morning my nephew found, in the same parking lot, a young alligator snapping turtle. I am really starting to wonder if there was an argument between a husband and wife and one of them decided to teach the other a lesson and dumped his/her precious pets. Or a parent decided their kid wasn't making the grade and turned the pets loose and doesn't understand what harm they are putting these creatures in. This is so odd!! He took the little turtle to a creek and released him though so, good luck little guy. He will probably be happier out in that creek than wandering a parking lot. Sorry, not making a viv for an alligator snapper. LOL! I do hope that this is not a case of someone just getting bored with these pets and just letting them go to fend for themselves. It wouldn't be good for me to run in to that person. :twoguns:

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Heater

Hi all! I have another question.. Do any of you use this heater? ZooMed Repti-Therm Under Tank Heater I was looking on line at the pet store that carries all the stuff, other than the frozen mice, so I could drive over there today and get some aspen. For the heck of it I looked to see what kind of heaters they have and this one popped up. It says it is excellent for corn snakes. What do y'all think???? I was actually hoping they might carry that heater the, Ultratherm Heat Pad, that Dionythicus told me about. They don't carry it, I guess you can only get it from Bean Farm. I wanted to get something pretty fast so I don't have to leave this light on all night anymore. He likes the light off and so do I. I would only keep it on during the day and let him cool down at night but my hubby likes our bedroom very cool at night and I don't want him getting too cold, especially after he eats...
