Random thought

As far as lumping everyone in a given religion together with the extremists in their chosen belief, I don't. A good example of this is my brothers and sisters in arms are overseas getting shot, blown up, mortared, etc and I will not allow myself to lump all muslims in with the sect that is killing my Army family. Many of them are good people just trying to survive in a war zone while we friends get mad at each other over a religious debate on our computers in our own safe houses.

I'm not trying to belittle anyones arguments but friends and colleagues being angry at each other over this is saddening. :(

If I have said anything to offend anyone it was definitely not my intent.

And you can bet I was grilling the minister who taught my confirmation class with the full intensity of my scientific mind which wanted an explanation I could buy!

Faith...Evolution. It doesn't have to be either or. At least not in my mind! I resolved that issue when I was 10.
Nanci, you know, I find myself "somewhere" along those lines as well. I have a difficult time thinking that the world was created to not "live and breathe and grow, flow and change". Static unchanging things die... Life flows and moves.

It is blatantly obvious that the OP is bent on preaching to us, by continuing to post scripture in more & more threads, answering questions with scripture.
I won't say he doesn't have the right to posting such things, but I do not want to see it.

I believe in God and I don't want to be preached at either. Honestly there is a time and a place and I don't think it's here.

If you want to discuss religion you don't go to a snake forum. At least, that wouldn't be my first choice. That'd be like seeing a dentist when you have a broken arm. :bird:

People... I think everyone has gone a bit overboard.
For those who believe in God- He certainly doesn't mind what people say. He requires no defense nor is anything unplanned. You do not have to bear His torch... in fact, some of the most horrible historical events happened when people believed they were acting by God's will- Crusades, inquisition and so forth.

What you are actually defending is your belief system... and I get that, because it's unnerving to have so many people speak up against it. But no one will be able to deprive you of your faith nor prove you wrong.

As for the non-believers. Not to believe is also a choice of faith and I get that too- be it for logical or emotional reasons, you are entitled to your own beliefs and they are not lesser nor "sinful"... at least in my eyes.

Thing is though... for those who believe, faith provides strength. It may not be the "truth" you see... but why try and deprive it of them? As you see it, there's no afterlife... so why not believe in what makes you happiest? Live and let live.

And those who do believe- I am a believer myself, but no one was asked to convert anyone else. If faith will take root, it'll occur by choice and gently- not by forcibly threatening that not all un-believers are sinners and are doomed to Hell.

A belief system is something that is very sacred to people... why be so keen on expressing opinions that can hurt it.
Not every opinion has to be spoken out. Not everyone have nor need to feel and believe the same.

An extremist started this thread, we can all agree on that... let's just let it drop? I think it has caused unnecessary strife and this matter will not, and cannot, be resolved here and now... or ever, possibly.

Kokopelli, I must spread some rep around before repping you again, but I wanted to say that was an amazing post. You have a wonderful way with words and are constantly a voice of reason and eloquence on this forum. Thank you for lending your wisdom. :)

Agreed. 100%

faith provides strength.

In this world' I have seen people loose faith in themselves. Who your higher power is your personal choice. What you do makes the difference. If you have good in your heart, good will happen. Many question the meaning of life instead of living it. Cherish the bad days because they make the good days special.

Oh, MYLANTA..... I am so glad I didn't find this thread when it first started. What does it matter what diety I do or don't worship, so long as I live a life that is good, rich, and full of love and happiness? At the end of the day I still cook my family dinner, and enrich the lives of those I care for...

More to the point, I bet I care for my snakes just as well as Lavender.

Just another random thought. "So then it is not of him the willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that showeth mercy." romans 9:16

Lavender I suggesth a newer translation. Reading in a dead dialect makes it harder to understandth.

You might as well start posting quotes in spanish. Then agan not posting bible quotes wouldn't hurt anyone either.

The old english has its pros. In the nkjv it uses a sentance like visit the poor as opposed to the old kjv that uses visit the fatherless and widows. You see looking after the orphans and widows is commanded. But the general term "poor" might included lazy men who are too sorry to work and they should starve rather being taken care of.

Are you sure it is a Christian value to want lazy people to die? What if they are Christian too?

The bible is very clear about men working and providing. To paraphrase: If they don't work they don't eat. The bible calls men that don't work "worse than infadels." On the other hand, the bible constantly instructs to be merciful to crippled, handicapped, orphan, widows, and women and children in general.

"and you think love is to pray, well I'm sorry I don't pray that way...once I ran to you, now I run from you.."

So, it's just lazy men? Not lazy women?

I would suspect that lazy women would have some negative connotations, but God holds men resposible for the welfare of their families. While women and children are under the roof of their father/husband even their actions good or bad is on the man,s head. The chassity of daughters is the father's responsibility. Husbands, they must be able to take the place of a father. If a father has fed, clolthed, and nutured a daughter let's say 18-20 years. The man must be able to step in and do the same thing the father has done til that point. So in my house my 2 daughters can live here rent free and worry free all there days. My son however has to learn to work and provide and leave this hous eventually. There cannot be 2 authority figures in my home.
