But there is good news! Abbot Laboratories is developing ANCROID from Maylayan pit viper venom to be administered after stroke. Cognetix is developing anticholinergic peptides form cone snail venom for stroke therapy. See-, venom is good! Nanci

All sorts of new and innovative meds are being developed from reptiles. I'm starting some Diabetic patients on a metabolic medication that mimics Gila monster metabolic hormones. Much more complicated in explanation - but you get the idea. I had one patient that I gave a simplified version of what it does and where it came from. She went home and researched. The next time I saw her was from across the office about a week later. She yells, "TONYA - YOU PUT ME ON LIZARD SPIT??" Knowing me, the staff simply grins and nods.
