Their names...

Elphaba - the hypo blood. The name of The Wicked Witch Of The West.

Do you know how hard it is to come up with names for 100+ snakes and animals?
Yes, I think I do! Over the years, I must have named at least 300 snakes, and only a small handful are duplicates (such as when a named hatchling dies and gets replaced), and even then, they get a "II" after their name.

Some names were very thought out, such as Koushoku is Japanese for "yellow" and Karumera is Japanese for "caramel". They are my pair of caramel motleys het butter. And it took me several days to find just the right name for my jungle corn, Kong.

Other names have a theme, such as many of my zigzags...Double Zee, Zephyr, Zelda, Zach, Zythe, etc. Many of my ghosts also have theme names (of course)...Casper, Boo, Spirit, Spectra, Phantom.

Then there are the "family" names - Jennifer's Snake II is the mother of Little Jenny and Mermaid (Jennifer is my daughter and at the time her keeper hatchlings were named, she was into The Little Mermaid). One of my ghost motley females was named Ariel because of my daughter (but no relation to Jennifer's Snake II). Alamo, Lambada and Amabelle were named because of their father Amel Bamo. Kiss was named after her father, Hershey.

Some names almost pooped out of thin air...such as Why (she has the letter "Y" on her head), Desdemona (my anery zigzag), Peaches and Cream (my pastel ghost and coral snow pair), and Pretty simply because she initially wasn't a keeper, I had already named her sibling keepers but didn't want any more in their theme (Karyn, Kathlyn and Kate), and I just liked her small aberrant pattern...it's pretty.

I have snakes named after mythological persons/beings from multiple cultures.
I've also named snakes simply because of their color, pattern or genetics...Double Het, Snow, Amel, Anery, Inca and Maya (both were amel aztecs) and Butter.

Naming snakes can be fun and frustrating, but always something I will continue to do. If I ever have to resort to numbers or letters for my keepers, I'm getting out of corns as that will mean I no longer care about them like I used to.

OK, there is:

*Normal - Teyla
%Normal Motley - Crue
#Blizzard - Bill
#Ghost - Galadriel
#Ghost - Gelinda
*Amel - Mulder
*Amel - Scully
*Bloodred- Fry
*Bloodred - Leela
#Miami - Estefani

* = the only ones I named. See a common theme? Tv shows. lol.
# = Named by Dean
% = Named by JoeJr

I still care about each snake whether it's name WTF#1 or Caesar. I simply feel the need to lablel each snake something other than "Ultra/Hypo male" , etc, while I think of a suitable name. (for record keeping and such) Guess that's just me. :shrugs:

Heh i named my baby ghost con Arogog the giant spider from the Harry Potter books. I don't know why but he just reminds me of him (except of course he is less hairy :) ).

My corn name is Metallica. That is my fav band. I'm going to get two more soon and call them Guns N' Roses.

currently have 5 snakes, 2 more should be on the way ...

Ziti and Farfalla - i needed names, and we had italian that night, both are types of pasta, but Farfalla means butterfly
Phantom - she's anery
Tango - normal ... just a name i came up with
Dragon - fits his personality very well, he's sunkissed

a pair of '07s should be coming soon, don't have any ideas yet, we'll see when they get here

reasoning in names

Oh, oops, forgot to say why I chose the names. Umm yeah.

Zeebo (amel)- I dunno, I just kinda came up with it randomly :shrugs:

Cotton (snow, ordered but won't be ready till mid-August :()- My friend Ali came up with that one. So her thinking is that corn snakes eat mice, which live in feilds, and feilds reminds her of cotton feilds and cotton is a cute name (this was actually on the "name list" for Zeebo, but I decided against it because I felt it was better suited for a snow then an amel) .

Pepper (anery, same as Cotton)- Pepper is a newer name, so I'm still not 100% sure how I like it, I guess I'll decide once I meet her. Anyway, my friend Lily was helping me choose names and she suggested Salt & Pepper (because of the black and white in anerys). I think Salt's a bad name for a snake so I just went with Pepper.

misty(anery) because of her coloring reminds of a misty morning.
maizy(sunglow)... well, corn = maze so.... lol
maygyn(ghost)... just because I like that name
ditto(black albino)... after a line in Ghost
hunter(ro)... always liked that name too
ellie(C.redtail) . because she is so elegant looking to me
5 of my own babies that I dont want to name because then they end up staying! hehe

then I just got 9 from Rich.... so far no names other than : get back here.. Oh, so you think you can eat me? and of course... You little bleep! LOL :D

2 bloods coming from Brent... not sure yet on them either :)

my snow is called bubbles.
dont know why it was the first word that came into my head when i saw her! :)
