The Kitty Appreciation Thread

Suzy

Shazoooooo!
I know a lot of us have cats here, so I thought i'd start a Kitty Appreciation Thread! :) I thought we could share pictures of our cats, and document their latest hijinks. (For example, this morning my 9 year old cat Princess decided to fight with an outside cat through my glass storm door. She is an indoor only cat, so i'm sure you can see the hilarity there. She was screeching and hitting the door, and the outside cat was as well.)
I tried doing this a while ago, and my computer froze. So i'm going to do my post separately. Enjoy!

Here are my kitties! I've got 4 cats right now - in order of age going oldest to youngest i've got Princess, who is 9 years old. Then i've got Princess' daughters, Lewis and Oswald who are 8 years old. Lastly is Tito who is going to be 4 years old this summer. He's my baby and he knows it. I also had Drew who was Lewis & Oswald's brother, but he passed away nearly 5 years ago from Feline Dysautonomia. (I can't believe it's been that long! I still miss him terribly. :()
Now for pictures:

Here's Princess with a little bit of tongue sticking out. She always gives me a hard time when i'm taking pictures. She'll turn her head or do something silly, making it a horrible picture.

This is Lewis about ½ a second before she attacked my camera.
3218661842_5cf9fba0b3.jpg

Here's Oswald doing her own silly thing. This isn't an unusual pose for her. She's the house goof ball.
3217812275_d9e771578c.jpg

This is Tito around the time I got him - he was about 6-8 months old in this picture.

This is Lewis & Princess in their 1 ton shirts. They couldn't walk because the shirts were so heavy!
3217810051_b37195926d.jpg

So Tito took advantage of this and had a stare-down with his biggest enemy in the house.

And lastly, my favorite picture ever of Drew. He was such a sweet boy, too.

Thanks for reading! :D

I think this thread needs a little ~*Magic*~! LOL.
Here's my little boy when we brought him home (at 8 weeks old).

Last month, we were cat sitting for a friend. She told Magic something that, apparently, grossed him out. (Miley on left, Magic on right)

What a great idea!
I do love my snakes, but I am at heart a cat person. I got my first when I was about 8 and have always had at least one ever since.

This was my girl Yeska who we just lost late last year to cancer. She was polydactyl (extra toes like the Hemingway cats):

This is my baby Liebe - she will be 18 this year. I have had her over half of my life now and she is older than my 16yr old son. She is truly my baby spending all day hanging out with me at work (I work from home).
She isn't fond of having her picture taken so I don't have many.
My favorite photo of her:

And this is how you normally find her during the day:

And this is our newest baby - Gabriel - who we took in for Mike. I call him Boogers all the time because he is always getting into trouble. He loves to "stalk" things outside from in the house - running from window to window to get the best view. He attacks and pulls around my hiking boots in my room, and has a fetish for clean people. If you leave the bathroom door open and get out of the shower - he has to rub all over your wet feet!

As a baby at Mike's:

All those kitties are just adorable guys! Its so funny to see how expressive they are through photos. Suzy how neat that you got to keep the family together! Oswald is so cute! And Robbie you know I love your magic kitteh! Katie I can't believe your cat is 18... She doesn't look old at all!!! And booger is just entirely too adorable!

This is my Gabriel, my "Little Man" (all 30lbs of him). He's been my baby since the day he was born. About 5 years ago, I was living in an apartment with my ex. While at work one day, he found an adorable little girl cat that he just couldn't leave out in the cold. We took her in and made her ours. We named her Terra, because she was a tabby cat the color of terra cotta pots. When she went into heat for the first time, we did everything to keep her indoors. We lived on the 2nd floor, and the only outside time she was allowed to have was on the patio. She never ever tried to jump from the 2nd story patio, so we thought we were safe. WRONG! A big black tom cat came up to her! How he got up there, we have no idea.

When she was pregnant, she got huge. We though she was going to have an extremely large litter, and prepared to take care of 8+ kittens. When she finally gave birth, all that came out was a little white male kitty. We joke that Gabriel is so big because he ate his siblings in the womb. :grin01:

About 3 weeks after that, my ex and I split. Since he found Terra, he refused to give her up, and wanted nothing to o with Gabriel. As a matter of fact, he wanted him gone right then and there. I tried to argue that this would be horrible for both of them since Gabriel was too young to be weaned, but he didn't care. He packed up and moved in with his new girlfriend immediately. Poor Terra was frantic when she left, and Gabriel was just terrified... he wouldn't leave my side. I bottle fed him for a month, and weaned him myself. Since then he's been attached to my ankles.

Catherine - you know I love your cat...I am lucky enough to have met him in person - he was one awesome kitty. I should've catnapped him when I had the chance!

Here is Mitchi, my 3 year old Ragdoll. I love him to death, but the cleaning up of his fur all over the house is not fun.

Here is my crazy ol' alley cat. I got him in April of last year. His job was to eat the mice that were invading my home. Yeah, right. The creatures of #2848 have deemed Sterling the House Cat as "Mostly Harmless" and all act accordingly. Snappy the Snap Trap does the mouse killing here.

P.S. I LOVE that ragdoll and want to steal her... cats with blue eyes rock!

Here's my kitty Chance, she was one of the kittens from my favorite female barn cat (who has since passed). She'll be 4 this year.

This is her when she was about 8 months old (she used to sleep in the sink). Sorry about the quality, it was taken with my cell phone.

Robbie, the last picture had me cracking up! Thanks for sharing! :)
Arpeggio (Sorry, I don't remember your name! :(), I absolutely love polydactyls! I love playing with cat toes, so that would be perfect for me! (And i'm so sorry about your loss. It's always hard.) Liebe is gorgeous! I hope my cats live that long! :) And it's funny that you call Gabriel Boogers - I call Tito Booger or Boogie. All of my cats have nicknames, though. He's adorable! I love his little nose stripe. :)
Thanks, Jynx! :D I couldn't bear to get rid of them - they were just so darn cute! There were initially 4 kittens, but one of them passed away early on with a cleft palate. She couldn't nurse, so she was put down. Just out of curiosity, is Gabriel part Siamese? He really looks like it. He's gorgeous! If I could find a male Siamese polydactyl, that would be my perfect cat.
Jen, Shadow is so cute!
JP, I may just have to look you up and steal Mitchi! ;) He's got such beautiful eyes! I always hoped my cats would end up with blue eyes, but they're all green or amber. I know what you mean about the fur, though. I hate having to clean it up, but if I don't it looks like I could build my own little kittens from the hair that builds up on my stairs.
Lauren, your alley cat isn't much different from most cats, unfortunately. LOL - but he's adorable! I love tabbies like that. :)
That was a lot of typing!

I knew I should have refreshed! Chance is adorable! I love all kitties, but orange is one of my favorite colors. :) How cute!

Everyone has such lovely pictures....we need more appreciation thread ;)

JP- I'm jealous of your pets!! You actually own everything on my "want" list, an Abbotts, a greyhound (you managed to stop at one?), AND a gorgeous ragdoll!

I have no pictures of my kitten because he refuses to stand still, But here are pics of the other 4.

Burdock I found as a 3 month old kitten.

Diesel I adopted when he was 13 years old after his owners wanted to euthanise him because he had diabetes. We got him into remission and I had him for almost 2 years. He contracted cancer however and I had to euthanise him on 12/21. I miss my fluffy old man.

Mallorn is my second cat ever. He's half abyssinian and a chicken.

Last two pics are of Rowan, about 2 weeks after I got her. She had a diaphragmatic hernia so that's why she has the huge shaved area. She's a little snobby booger, but I love her to death.

Beautiful kitties everyone!

Lol, it is so cute! And she insists on being with me in the bathroom at all times. When I'm in the shower she always sits right outside the tub and waits for me to get out.

Yep, I have a sink sleeper and both my kitties will have a heart attack if I lock them out when I go to the bathroom. Then when I wash my hands, they sit on oppisite sides of the sink to fight over the water.

I lost a lot of friends in 2008 (animal and human) my two current kittens have helped me a lot in healing. They are 7 and 9 months, but I still call them kittens even though they are huge. Funny thing is, the younger outweighs the older by 4lbs!

Meet Abigail and Chewbacca/Chewy

They are complete oppisites. Abby looks like she walked out of the jungle, Chewy looks like she walked out of a Barbie dream house. Abby fears nothing but the vacuum, Chewy fears everything but the vacuum.

This is what my cats do too. When I'm in the bathroom with the door shut...there is a bit of a space under the door...and they will start meowing and sticking their paws under the little space.

Then if one is inside...and one is outside...they will start attacking eachothers paws through the door.

My cats also seem to have some sort of bed sleeping schedule when I go to bed too. When I go to bed first my cat Aisha visits me in the bed. And she only goes by my head in the bed...she is not really fond of the softness of the bed...she likes to be by my head or on a nearby pillow.

Then eventually Aisha leaves and they do whatever in the middle of the night...then when i wake up my cat Leia is sleeping down by my feet.

They are rarely on the bed together unless my boyfriend is gone...in which case Aisha sleeps on my boyfriends spot on a pillow...and Leia sleeps by my feet.
