First hook-ups for me!!

shes good. She did not pass the second egg. Using the procedure kathy taught me, i was able to move the egg down to the vent. Seeing that this egg was larger still..i held the egg in place with my thumb, and pricked the exposed portion of the egg, thereby draining the contents of the egg. Smooth sailing from there. Shes resting comfortably....finally.

For anyone Interested..or for those who arent sure what to expect....She started at 325grams. today she weighs 180 grams. Tomorrow, she'll get her first meal in a long time! 2 fuzzies are on the menu.

Awwwwwww...poor, sweet baby girl! Did you get any pix of her yet Rich? If not, maybe you can get a quick couple. I'm so glad you were able to drain that last egg and get it out.

yes it is!! Unfortunately, I was not able to get pics of the procedure. i was on my own tonight...A Little tougher to do..but doable...I found myself trying to hurry...I had to tell myself (out loud) to SLOW DOWN..slow and easy..it'll come..And sure enough...it moved right down to where i could access it.

I did get a few of her After the procedure....I'll upload ASAP. Also, I would like to do a comparison....what she looked like BEFORE being gravid....And what she looks like Now...to let Other first timers know what they are in for. I didnt think the deflated egg and it's contents were worthy of a pic. i realize it was a dead egg before i started..but you know...I have that "never give up..never quit" Attitude. I wanted to beable to give that egg a shot...Even knowing it was dead. :)

Also....after her post lay shed...I'll take her into the Vet for a All around check-up...just to make sure in her weakened state she isn't overtaken by some parasite.

ok heres a few pics...First up is Zena before I felt any lumps. then the post Op. pics. then a special surprise when i walked outside after i was done to just relax for a second. enjoy. ok..well the first pic she might well have been gravid at that point...I'll look for another.

She's going to be fine, Rich, you'll see! It's very hard to see that weight loss the first time.
You did a wonderful job of not panicking, and taking the steps necessary to help this snake through a difficult time.
You are to be commended. But you need to name your snakes. They are obviously quite dear to you!

the whole reason i havent named them....But this one...she's my baby!! ya know...you could own 1000 different snakes...but theres always one...ya know...that means just a little more to you than the others..just a little. ya know? She's off the breeding list for next year. So that means i wont be breeding next year...After this...i'm giving my girls an extra year...i know it wont prevent problems...but perhaps it will lessen the chance..and LOTS of exercise. LOTS LOTS LOTS!!

Congratulations! Glad they are out!

I would suggest taking a light weight cloth and putting it over your hand as you allow the snake to calmly crawl back into the cage. Push your index finger into her belly slightly as she crawls. Sometimes there is a small egg stuck, and you might not notice it visually. But you can feel it in the manner I described above. Once you have done that, you can be pretty well assured that she is completely finished laying.

Really, Rich, I'm sure she will have an easier time of it next year. She'll be bigger, you'll be more relaxed.
It's way worse to have her lay a clutch of slugs when you haven't bred her!
it seems like it takes so much out of them for nothing...The first year is by far the most nerve-wracking.

Kathy,

Already did that....believe it's in your book! :) But seriously...that was the first thing i did..well actually the first thing i did was cleaned out her cage and put fresh aspen in for her..the pics show it was wet..that was me...i spilled the dang water dish. But yeah, I'm 95% sure she's empty. Again, thank you so much for sharing your Knowledge with me & others! Your truly the best!

I will candle them on sat. So expect a few pics then...And as for pippies...june 12th ??? lol...thats a guesstimate.

oooh maybe you'll get lucky and they'll come out around... say... june 6th? >:3 would be an awesome thing to see fresh clutches of happy hatchies on my own "hatch day"... >:3
