My first tattoo! =] Everyone, show 'em off!

Awe cute! You must have a little dog like me. I think I may have to get something for my Baylie (long hair chihuahua) maybe a portrait of her face, bug eyes and all. I haven't gotten my first one yet and I already have ideas for like 4 more, sheesh my family will tell me to stick with the snakes lol

I do! She is a chihuahua, a little bit of an apple head and she weighs about 6 pounds after her leg removal.

I have at least two more tattoos I want. Sunshine with a Gladiolus flower, and a Arabian horse head with roses.

here are my tattoos:

First pic is of my Alzheimer's/cancer ribbon for those in my family, including myself who have been affected. My Grandmother passed away in 2007 from Alzheimer's disease and I myself am a cancer survivor.

The second pic is my dove tat that says "just for today" it's to remind myself and the people around me that each day is a gift and if you focus on what life will be like years from now, you lose the time that is so precious right in front of you. Today is just as important as tomorrow, so cherish it.

I don't have photos of my other tats on this computer so I will have to upload later, but here you go.
This piece was started around two years ago after I got out of the psychiatric ward. I had a particularily horrific couple of years and was dealing with depression and crippling anxiety. I just got the text done at first, and spent another year deciding what else I wanted around it. When I found this filligree, I knew it was perfect and immediately booked with my artist.

The quote is from a book called "The Prophet" by Kahlil Gibran. For me at least, it represents all the crap I went through in order to come out stronger on the other side.

I have had this idea for awhile. I am sure I am not the first but I have not really heard first hand of anyone doing it. Wanted to get some opinions. I want to get what I call a 'life collage' on my right shoulder/bicep. Small pieces depicting major events and/or important things in my life and add to it as my life continues on. Thoughts? Anyone know someone that has done this?

I think that's a great idea! Just remember, get what you want. Don't worry what others will think, if that 's how you choose to share your stories and express yourself then do it. I have known a few people to do something similar so go for it if that's what you really want. :)

I did say it was an addiction right? lol Well here is my latest one....that I had no plans on getting. But saw a design, and fell in love with it. Plus I love horses and they will always be a part of my life so it only made sense!

You'll have to excuse the crappy pic....my phone sucks. lol

So that makes the total 5 now! lol I'm still waiting to get more work done on my arm, but that should only take two more sessions to finish. :)

I'M GETTING ONE!

I have one tattoo on my left shoulder of a Pictish horse that I drew myself. That was several YEARS ago. I was told that they're addictive. But so far I've been good and not gotten anymore. ( Please don't read anything negative into that. It involves finances! )

But I have come to the decision that it is finally time for another one. That and the prodding from all my friends that I definitely need something serpentine to balance out my passions in skin art form.

I'm going to the same lady who did my other tattoo, Sarah Sheetz of "Wandering Canvas" in Red Lion. ( Shameless plug here! ) I had to reserve an appt with her WEEKS ahead of time, she is so popular! I haven't been inked yet but when I do it will be based on the design on the PJC Reptile page, a Celtic knot-work snake. She may have to alter the design somewhat to get it to fit on my "canvas". I'm also debating getting it colored in green but we'll seen how much of a wimp I am about the pain!

I'll send pics of the finished product as soon as I get it.

Getting a tattoo feels nothing like getting a shot with a syringe. I hate getting shots but I can handle hours of tattoos without issue. It does hurt, but it's more of a scratchy/burny feeling.

Getting my first tattoo soon, nothing overly huge, but I'm terrified of needles. Advice?

I was so terrified of needles too...so much in fact than when I had to get a needle prior to my hysterectomy my blood pressure was through the roof so bad that the nurse laughed and said she wasn't even going to tell me the numbers because she knew it was the fear causing it to escalate but I got her to tell me. Anyhow I got through it and when I had to go get another one the following month I wasn't as afraid. The day I got my first tattoo in April I was really nervous but so excited because I had waited so many years but had been so afraid of needles. After the hysterectomy I figured it was time. I was 42 and so ready. I didn't makes an appt I just got in my car one morning and went. On the way there my so I kept saying he didn't believe I was gettinge one. I got myself really psyched by saying loudly in the car "yea let's do this"...and turned up my music and zoned out on the way there and the guy had his music which is the heavy stuff I like turned up loud too. The whole experience ending up being very relaxing and now I amuy totally addicted. Just don't pick a real sensitive spot for ur first one like the ankle or wrist..any places close to the bone is more tender. But everyone is different. Some people don't fond those places bad at all. My daughter got her first one on her foot and had since done her ribs and neck. She said the ribs hurt bad but was worth it. She even went back and had more added to it. I am planning more myself.
Good luck and let us know how u do!

Maybe for those who have never gotten one, we should discuss what areas are more or less painful. Of course everyone's pain toleration levels are different. But generally speaking that is.

My first group of 3 were on the back of y neck. I expected the neck bone to hurt but it didn't. I them got my vampire bites on my chest and my arm done none of which hurt. The one on my right leg hurt right at the bottom near the ankle. But I went back 2 weeks later and got the left leg done. For me the little spot of pain actually was not really pain but a very irritating feeling kind of like a cat scratching a sunburn

I am told that areas that are over bone with a thin fat layer are more painful (ribs, hipbone, spine, etc) But I have a large rib piece done and I fell asleep during it.

Honestly, if you are going to go through the stress and money of getting a tattoo, I wouldn't let the pain determine where I put it!

Yeah but some people are wimps like me!

Also I have to be careful where I put it because work has this new, "no VISIBLE tats" rule which came about AFTER I had been there a few years because of someone who kept getting them in obvious places. Ruined it for the rest of us!
