2008 Year In Review!

Bring it on.
The 2008 Year In Review!

It’s been very interesting to go over this past years worth of threads and pictures and see just how much has changed, and just how much has remained the same. I’ve noticed a lot of questions that have been asked have been answered multiple times. Snakes have gone from little munchkins, to great big beasts! There have been so many new members, it would take at least two or three posts to list them all. It’s been interesting to see just how many names I don’t really recognize, and a few that I do, but haven’t seen in a while. This year has been full of all kinds of unexpected twists and turns for many people, so here's hoping that this will help everyone focus on the good that's come of this year.

Each specific month will have the topics of interest, as posted by each persons Week In Review, followed by a collection of photos from the entire month. Each month will also have a section for pairings, eggs, and pippies, as these are some of the most rewarding moments in the hobby. I have done my best to try and include the best photos previously featured in each WIR throughout the year, as well as include the more interesting topics. I've included all pairings/eggs/pippies from every member as posted in the WIR's throughout the year. These sections include links and photos due to the different methods used by WIR writers.

Thank you, to the writers of the Week In Review. Without you, this year in review would have taken months to complete. We all expect to see a WIR every week, but few realize how much work goes into them, especially considering it's a volunteer position.

I would prefer it if you did not reply until all posts have been made, as this review is going to be very long.

I think we all owe Rich Z a great big
THANK YOU for giving us this wonderful site to share knowledge, photos, and experience.

I hope you enjoy the first ever Cornsnakes.com Year In Review!

Birthdays:
Humor me... click the link... I dare you.

January

The WIR for the first week of the New Year was posted by Tyflier.
A few topics of interest in there included
Using Nutribac
And
A discussion of ‘08 breeding plans! Take a moment to look back on those and see how many of those plans came through!

During Tula_Montage’s WIR time, there were many a discussion, including Using distilled water… yay, or nay?, The correct placement of thermometers, and Nanci’s Bad Shed Tutorial.

The next WIR from TripleMoonsExotic told us that corns are officially illegal without a permit in Vermont! There was also a discussion on whether or not certain morphs are healthier than others.

There were quite a few interesting discussions during the time frame for the first WIR of February, done by Toyah. Pied-Sided vs. Whitesided?, hybrids, quad and quint hets, fighting for our rights, is there anything we won’t discuss?

Rich_in_KY posted a WIR worthy of a Dial-Up Warning… But of course we love those here.
It was a very paranormal week, starting when Snake_Dave revealed time travel isn’t just for Sci-fi, and then SnakesRule1234 asked about ghostly experiences! On a more serious note, there was always the discussions on fuzzy stuffing and feeder companies were debated over.

The last full week in February was covered by TripleMoonsExotic again, and was full of wonderful discussions, and some great photos.
The term "hateling" was officially defined, the use of live plants in vivs was talked about, powerfeeding was debated, when it's okay to force feed, and the setup of lay boxes.

February Photos

ArpeggioAngel sure does have some beautiful pictures, and this shot of her Miami is no exception.

Toyah helped us ring in the very end of February, and the beginning of March. And what could be better for that than the first '08 CS.com debate on the scaleless corns, an interesting look at incubation temperature and temperament, gay snakes, and blood after mating.

Rich_in_KY's latest DUW post showcased almost as many photos as this YIR. But never fear! The topics were hard hitting! There was a rather interesting outlook on being "PC" and the explanation behind the tail rattle!

Tula_Montage featured questions on brumation, brought to light the wild-caught photo thread, what to do with health issues, and corn snake laws.

April started off with a very picture heavy WIR by Rich (as usual). While there weren't many topics of interest to post, there were plenty of wonderful pictures and pairings.

Tula_Montage brings us into the middle of the month with such topics as bad sheds and tail loss and the original snake name thread.

Toyah got a chance to bring to light the horrors of egg binding and a list of hybrids as well as some useful incubation information.

Jrgh17 finished off the last of the completely April WIR's. There was a discussion on why corns are known as "wimpy" snakes and the controversy behind a communal lay box.

As you can see, May brought about many more eggs and pippies for many members, and a joyous time was had by all when photos were shared. Rich's first WIR of the month brought about (you guessed it) and insane amount of pictures.

Toyah's first WIR of the month introduced many new members. There was also much talk about when the economy isn't exactly working in the breeders favor, Ghosthousecorns got to show off cool patterns in a bite, how to exercise your snakes, and a warning for all keepers that what you pay for is what you get.

TripleMoonsExotic filled her WIR cycle with Eggs, pippies, pictures, and new members.

And then before anyone with a Dialup connection could recover, it was Rich's turn for a WIR again.

NFS07's first ever WIR asked breeders the hard hitting questions like how to get hatchlings to eat for the first time, the ever popular is my snake gravid, and who could ever forget How did you get started?

Toyah started us off for the month of June. The selection of topics was great! There was a discussion on what should go into a snake emergency/first aid kit, proper sterilization/disinfecting techniques, and finally can they really get stuck?

TripleMoonsExotic graced us with another wonderful WIR. There was an update to the Munson plan, a debate on whether corns guard their eggs, the bad side of cohabbing, and how to avoid ants.

Rich_in_KY's June WIR was, you guessed it, full of pictures.

Tula_Montage finished out the month of June with some interesting discussions. One of which talked about which cleaning products are safe, while others discussed the 80 day pippies, egg teeth, and even the temperatures inside shipping boxes.

July found us with even more pippies than we knew what to do with! With new pippy posts popping up periodically, it was all the WIR writers could do to keep up!
Toyah's WIR in July found her unable to view pictures, so a full text WIR was in order. But that was okay, considering there were topics from coconut husks to swimming corns, and snakey yawns to oozing eggs.

TripleMoonsExotic, however, made up for the lack of pictures during her turn for the WIR due to an apparent lack of interesting threads.

Guess who's turn it was next? That's right. The king of pictures, Rich_in_KY.
